Last night I dug out my GARFIELD holiday DVD. I hadnt watched the Halloween one this year so iw atched that and then I watched the Thanksgiving one. For some reason the Thanksgiving one skips! So I didnt watch all of that.

I went to watch regular TV and to my surprise Charlie Brown was on!!! They played the classic CHARLIE BROWN THANKSGIVING special and then played one I had never seen before where the PEANUTS gang were on The Mayflower! My daughter was really tired but once she saw Linus was in the second special she MADE herself stay up for the whole thing (I swear she has always had a weird crush on Linus!)

There is just such joy in watching those PEANUTS specials on TV! Even when I ahd most of them on VHS I would STILL watch them when they played them on TV!

I didn't, because I usually bring out the DVD on Thanksgiving and watch it.

Sure did. And this was the first time I caught a glimpse of the Mayflower show; up till now I think I'd seen only the inventor's episode of the This Is America Charlie Brown miniseries. So probably only about a week or two before the Christmas version comes to a screen near you again (let's see if this airing has a tribute to Bill Melendez). Set your channels to the Family Channel Saturday night too, when A Boy Named Charlie Brown and Snoopy Come Home return to the airwaves as well.

I certainly wouldn't mind if one of these years they revive the New Year's special too; that one's rather underrated, and as far as I know the only holiday special in the series not to get a home release yet (Flashbeagle also should be given second life, I feel, but that's another story for another day). While one can understand why Schulz preferred never to show the Little Red Haired Girl, feeling it would be better if we ourselves visualized what she looked like that made Charlie Brown's heart skip (all her actual appearances in the specials were done without his consent), it is nice to get a glimpse every now and then. And I still remember the musical chairs song fondly all these years later.

i knew it was on and my wife and i debated about whether we should let our 4 year old stay up to watch it since he usually begins his going to bed process around 7:45. sadly, he had school today and we thought it would not be wise to have him stay up to watch it. i was bummed that i don't own either the peanuts halloween or thanksgiving specials on dvd. i have to get on that. those cartoons are so much a part of the holidays for us.

last year we got him into watching christmas cartoons since we own them all on dvd. he really liked frosty and rudolph, but his attention span is short. i hope to make all of these cartoons apart of both my kids holiday experience.

For those who may have missed it (or want to see it again)...

ABC-TV will show the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving Special again on Thanksgiving night!
