I'm stunned into near silence by your confession above......
Did nobody ever tell you that sometimes it's better to keep stuff quiet?
Sadly (or maybe happily!) my 80s crushes were all of the normal, healthy type for a young chap of my age:
* Mary Stuart Masterson in SKOW;
* Michelle Pfeiffer in just about anything (or even nothing, depending on the movie!) but particularly in Into The Night;
* Diane Lane in Streets Of Fire;
* Meg Ryan in anything at all.....
Posted by kevdugp73 (Member # 5978) on :
I never did keep this secret.....
* Jennifer Beal - Flashdance * Phoebe Cates - Gremlins * Elisabeth Shue - Karate Kid * Kelly Le Brock - Weird Science * Dustin Hoffeman - Tootsie
I was kidding about the first one...I mean the last one.....
Posted by P.S. It's Paul.... (Member # 1022) on :
Hey Kevgudp73, you've heard all the rumours about Jennifer Beals' body double in Flashdance being a man, haven't you?
...
...
Well, thankfully they are not true! The dancer that all those shots of her dancing, and the close-up shots of her body, are performed by marine Jahan, whose other movie credit is the bar-top dancer at Torchy's in Streets Of Fire......
Posted by kevdugp73 (Member # 5978) on :
Ha Ha P.S. It's Paul.... I did know it was a body double. Although I own approx. 150 80's movies, I've actually not seen "Streets Of Fire"...I'll check it out.

Really, I don't even know the name of the young woman that technically was my first crush in the general sense of the word, and probably never will (I personally refer to her as Pamela since she seems to look like a Pamela to me). She appeared for all of 10 seconds or so in an at the time oft-run Sesame Street film informally dubbed "Sounds Around the House" by fans (type in "Sesame Sounds" on YouTube, and it should be the first one you get), sitting in a chair inside a typically late 70s era New York apartment, listening to a jazzy record (the second loudest of the increasing sounds in the film) while reading a book and chewing gum. Sure, that might be not much to go on for any relationship, and her hairstyle and clothing haven't aged that well since then. But you know, there was just something about her that attracted me then as a 4 year old and has managed to somehow stay with me through the years. Perhaps that she was so ebulent, so happy to be doing what she was doing, that she seemed accessible even to a child. Perhaps because her actions hinted she was friendly, easygoing, understanding, and intelligent, that she was someone you would enjoy being with. It's one of those great mysteries of life, but one I'm glad is still with me.

Embarassing people embarassing???? I fessed up I LOVED BOOGER!!! Don't make ME look like the weirdo??? I'm playing........
But I thought of another "not so normal" crush I had back when........Judge Reinhold....Fast Times and Vice Versa grrrrrrrraagh! Something about his lipsy voice.... haha
Posted by P.S. It's Paul.... (Member # 1022) on :
Hey, Muffy - maybe embarassing is what turned you on back then! I can't see where anyone else is making you look like a weirdo on your own thread!!
Still - Booger?
Hey - if it will make you feel better, I'll make up a couple of crushes that would have been embarassing had they been true:
1. Ferris Beuller's Day Off - no, not Mia Sara (although now I think of her.. ) but the school secretary.....
2. The Man With Two Brains - the hooker that sang Duke Of Earl. What a wonderful voice she had!

I had a huge crush on Andrew McCarthy, Fred Savage was also cute, but my very very first crush was on Jonathon Brandis....I vowed to marry him someday. maybe in our next lives.

Definitely not BOOGER!!!

most of these don't seem like EMBARASSING crushes you guys. and oh wow muffy sure does take the cake...BOOGER?? haha!
i'm definitely with you on Judge Reinhold!
ok here's mine...Cameron from ferris bueler's day off (don't know his real name). everytime i watched ferris bueler, i couldn't really stand ferris, but cameron was more quiet, sweet and funny to me i guess, plus the the whole realization he comes to with having to stand up to his father in the end. i loved his character much more!

So you don't think me having a crush on "Pamela" is embarrassing at all? Good, that's a load off my mind. On those grounds, did any of you younger members of the board have crushes on fictional characters in cartoons and puppet shows of the decade?

I died laughing at him

OK - more totally imaginary crushes.....
1. Uncle Buck. No - NOT acually Uncle Buck, nor even his greasy friend from the bowling alley with the toothpick (although there's one for Muffy, given the Boogster's attractions!). No, my squeeze would be the teacher with the mole - I'd supply the rat to gnaw it off her face, and then we could go tripple-dating - me, her, and the enormous rodent.
2. Clue. No end of potential there: will it be the icy cool Mrs White? The highly professional Miss Scarlett? Even the more mature, but organized Mrs Peac0ck? What about Yvette, the saucy french maid? None of these. For me, it has to be the cook.....
3. Return Of The Jedi. Ooohhh, Jabba!

1) The alien queen from 'Aliens': Honey, how many times have I told you: You can't go around laying eggs that forcibly impregnate people via facehuggers ,and stop dripping acid all over my carpet...have you ben drinking? ("when a man loves an mon-ster, can't keep his mind on nothing else 'fraid of being eaten if he turns his back on her")
2) Cheetra from 'Thundercats'...OK, maybe this ones not entirely fake.

Reminds me of the scene in one episode of 'Red Dwarf' (British Sci-fi comedy, for those not in the know) where Lister and Cat are sat watching The Flintstones. They both reckoned that Wilma was the most incredible woman ever, before saying that fantasizing over her was "pointless - after all, she'd never leave Fred".
Lister then asked Cat what he thought of Betty. His answer : "Well, i'd go with Betty - but I'd be thinking of Wilma!"
Posted by jdocster04 (Member # 5752) on :
I don't know... I still think Betty is the winner...
you know, the thing about Wilma... she's got lifeless eyes. Black eyes. Like a doll's eyes.
This is just wrong!!!
Now in this case, you might have something...
But then again...

Haha, I love this thread. The first person says they had the hots for Booger and then a bunch of people are like *I know how you feel! I had a crush on Jami Gertz (etc.) from "Less Than Zero." Is that embarassing?* Haha. Awesome. As not a child of the '80s persay (born in '86) Im a little unhelpful and I havent gone deeply into my vault of '80s movie memories, but in category of people who were hot but not mainstream, no one in the history of the world has a more out of whack "hottness to appreciation" ratio than Meredith Salenger. My word. "Dream a Little Dream" gets better everytime you watch it thanks to her. Also, what's up with Amanda Peterson, the lead girl in "Can't Buy Me Love." Im not even a blondes guy, but sheesh, when she answers the door for the sleezy guy her mom is dating in like a bikini top. Hagaga.
As for borderline embarassing, Im gonna join up with the earlier poster with some man-crushes. For one thing, not a movie guy, but George Michael. Ok. Moving on. Secondly, I always weirdly liked Robert Downey, Jr. in "Weird Science" and "Less Than Zero." But not enough to question myself too much. And I can also kinda see where the person is coming from with Cameron from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"

Paul, you're watching the wrong cartoons, dude.
1. Family Guy - Lois Griffin, a hot redhead. 2. Lucy Daughter of the Devil - Lucy, a hot redhead with little horns. 3. Futurama - Leela or Amy, take your pick. 4. Shin Chan - Mitsy, Penny's mom, or Hottie Nanako. 5. Tripping the Rift - 6 of 9, nothing else needs to be said.

The girl from "Out of This World" was Maureen Flannigan who played Evie Ethel Garland and the other one from "Charles in Charge" whom you were infatuated with could well be Josie Davis who was Sarah Powell.
