I'm a huge 80's fan with approximately 100 + 80's DVDs...and growing daily it seems. I was recently going through these movies and for the first time realized just how few 80's dramas I own. My whole love affair with the 80's is still reflective of its care free and fun aura...that's why my favorite movies include The Karate Kid, Ghostbusters, Back To The Future, Gremlins, The Breakfast Club, etc, etc. Now who would want to ruin all that good wholesome fun...with serious movies!? Now that I'm older (34) and presumably more mature (not really true says my wife), I do enjoy a good serious movie now and then. To the point, I was wondering what everybody's favorite 80's dramas are. Of course I could go through lists and pick em out myself...but I like hearing about people's favs. I do own: Without A Trace, Missing, Missippi Burning, Scarface, On Golden Pond, Platoon, and a few others. Appreciate any feedback. Thanks in advance.

- Amadeus, Places in the Heart, The Killing Fields
- The Color Purple, Witness
- Platoon, The color of money,
- The Last Emperor, Wall Street
- Rain Man, The Accused
- Born on the Fourth of July, Dead poets society

I always had a soft spot for William Hurt: 'Children of a Lesser God' and 'The Accidental Tourist' are both good.

It's worth remembering that nostalgia drives a lot of our respective tastes in movies; the films we think of fondly from when we were younger are unlikely to be films that were targeted at (and appealed to) adults.

Thanks jdocster04....I heard of all of these movies, but 5 or 6 I haven't seen...I'll check some of em out. And...toatally agree logan5....I was 7 years old in 1980....so my fondest memories of movies are more so from the late 70's to about 1985. Now that I'm older, I do like to rewind and see a few of the more mature movies...I still really like the feel of the 80's dramas and the grittiness of the filming. Still...my love of the 80's is absolutely based on the "fluffy" stuff.....Gremlins, Ghostsbusters, etc.
