Hi. Just wondering if everyone could name a few of their favorite 80's movies that are not yet released on DVD...ones you can't wait to get. Legend of Billie Jean is a given (though there are un-official copies available). Others? I'm waiting for "On The Right Track" with Gary Coleman. Cheers!

Not really considered 80s movies but I've longed for the Starrcades, Great American Bashes, and the short lived Crockett Memorial Cups (wrestling events)to be released onto DVD but it'll probably never happen since I think WWE owns the rights now.....

Hold on! Are we talking 80's movies that you can't get on DVD at ALL...or 80's movies that you CAN get but haven't yet been released in a special edition format?
If that's the case, then for me it's: Trick or Treat (1986)
This awesome film did get a release in 2002 (but it was completely lacking in special features) so it was strictly a bare bones effort. Cult movie company Anchorbay were all set to release a 20th anniversary special edition version in 2006 but had to abandon it when they encountered problems with the music rights. Talk about a major bummer!

Last time I checked "a Midnight Clear" was available for rent on Netflix not to buy. Also the cheapest price that you can BUY "A Midnight Clear" is for $89 on Amazon. Not what I would pay to add it to my collection at that price, therefore until the price comes down to $20 like a normal DVD; I considered it as a movie that you couldn't (wouldn't) get on DVD.

If Netflix has it available at least you can watch it. Note: Its 4:3, a decent transfer but again...4:3 and non-anamorphic...its not even letterboxed.
I'd also like to add: THE FINAL OPTION (aka: Who Dares Wins in the UK) PHANTASM II (I have no idea why this isnt' out R1)

Oh man, Hardbodies. I thought I was the only one to remember and love that movie. I would love if "The Midnight hour" and "One dark night" would come out on DVD.

One Dark Night came out on DVD about 2 years ago
You should be able to find it pretty easily... its even a 2 disc set. Not perfect quality, but very watchable!
I'd like to see The Midnight Hour - heard about it, but wasn't interested in paying over $100 for the out of print dvd and no one has it for rent

Actually, a really good HD rip of "RAD" is available for sale online. I have a copy. Just look around. Same for "Night Of The Creeps".
I, too, would love to have a true release of "Hardbodies", "The Legend Of Billie Jean", a Special Edition with extras of "The Breakfast Club", "Modern Girls" and "The Party Animal". More so the full soundtracks for "Hardbodies", "Modern Girls" and "Party Animal". I'm still missing tunes on the last two and nearly all for "Hardbodies". That is one extremely hard film to find music from on the Net. Still missing seven songs for "Modern Girls".

I definitely need to add "The Night Before" to my list. I've never seen it, but judging by the trailer, it looks like an awesomely fun movie that I could watch over and over. I was very surprised (and disappointed) to learn that this was unavailable on R1 DVD.
also...
The Wild Life Grandview, U.S.A
I haven't seen either of these, but am curious about both...

Got RAD and Modern Girls (though the later is a VHS rip in full frame, it still looks great). You can get "Wild Life" (which is also a VHS rip that needs a better edition) and "Modern Girls" from http://www.imlivinginthe80s.com , as well as a bunch of other 80s films. "Hardbodies" is a classic beach comedy. I'm surprised it has come out on DVD yet. The soundtrack songs are near impossible to find. I only have a few. The only available version of "Billie Jean" is the HDTV Rip, which is excellent. It can be bought here: http://www.raredvdclassics.com/thelegendofbilliejeandvd.html . They also have some other 80s movies too. Hopefully "Electric Dreams" will come out on DVD soon. Amazon already has a page for it. Just put together an extended soundtrack in play order for that classic movie. It was missing 10 songs.

Phaota,
I too have posted these sites before. some of the stuff is 'really' good! Here's other websites that have "Electric Dreams" and more:
www.raredvdclassics.com - Vibes (Nick wants this one) Electric Dreams, Billy Jean and others...
www.missedmovies.com - movies from 1940s - 1990s with 90 of them from the 80s...
Some of these are better than others, but all are at least VHS quality. Hey, it's better than nothing. Where else can you find "Student bodies", "The wild life", "Rad", "Modern girls", and one I looked for forever "Thunder Alley"? And many more...
Some good stuff people...

Screwballs-With all the porky's worship, why is this not being converted to DVD?
The Joy of Sex- With some of the same actors/actresses appearing in it a year after Valley Girl, it's like a good hangover for those who want to keep some VG spirit mixed with shades of the abovementioned movie.

I just took a quick look at all the titles that got mentioned here.. and i must say, lots of titles have actually been released on dvd since the last post.
Night of the Creeps, Hot Moves, Spring Break, Hardbodies, Grandview USA, The Gate, Streetwalkin', Screwballs, The Night Before, The Final Countdown, High Road to China, They Call Me Bruce, Ladies & Gentlemen.. The Fabulous Stains, Electric Dreams (on UK dvd only), Vibes, The Last Chase, and Fire With Fire coming soon on both dvd as well as blu-ray.
But what about Night of the Juggler ??
I mentioned the movie before in another thread, and TNUC mentioned it in the post above me from 2008.
I haven't seen this one since the early 90s, but i remember it being a very tense, exciting and fast-paced thriller. I can't really understand why it hasn't been released on dvd. According to IMDb it was produced by Columbia Pictures.. so that means the rights are most likely still with Sony.
This is definitely the movie that is on top of my list that i hope will ever be released again.

I got both of these a couple years back. Actually ordered them as a pack. It said skategang on the website but when I got the DVD it did say Thrashin' on the cover. It was American region but I got around that.
In case anyone is wondering about problems with DVD players playing certain region code discs, if you buy really cheap DVD players like the basic ones that you might see for like 20-30 bucks they are actually made so cheap that they don't have all that region code stuff inside them so you can play anything on them. I have a good DVD player but have one of these as a back up for those region coded discs that may not be available in your specific region.
Like 80's rocked said they are available on Amazon and that is were I got them

Johnny, Night of the Juggler looks great! Love Brolin in the clip, this guy is on the hunt Never seen the movie and itīs not in the Finnish VHS database.
Posted by Crash (Member # 7484) on :
Juggler, besides having the stupidest movie title ever, may be the sleaziest movie Columbia ever released. It is so over the top that it is very entertaining. It is also so violent, dirty looking, sleazy, and racist (Mandy Patinkin as a Hispanic cab driver anyone?) that you will just rub your eyes in disbelief. It's a lost film deserving of a DVD release.
Posted by the young warrior (Member # 9554) on :
night of the juggler sounds like my type of film, james brolin's has always been cool in my books, thought he was great in the original amityville and also thought he was excellent in the fun early 80s men on a mission movie high risk.
high risk has been released on dvd but the transfer is of really poor quality,i can vouch for this as i have a copy, about time this one got a proper decent dvd release as well.

The original Amityville is one of the best and scariest horror movies ever and James Brolin is absolutely fantastic in it.

I agree with you guys, the original Amityville rocks!
I recall that we rented High Risk back in ī85-ī86 but canīt remember anything about the movie.

Posted by Johnny Roarke is reckless (Member # 9826) on :
I've seen High Risk too somewhere around '87 i think.
All i can remember is that the guys who are robbing the villa in South America are supposed to take out a guard, but instead of knocking him unconcious, the guard starts screaming when he got hit on the head.
I thought that was pretty funny.
Posted by Crash (Member # 7484) on :
I had completely forgotten about "High Risk" until guys brought it up. (That's the beauty of this place--bringing back memories of long-forgotten films.) I saw it in the theatre back in the day because the reviews at the time were all pretty good. It's a good B-movie written and directed by a guy who spent his entire career doing B-movies, Stewart Raffill. He did a lot of good family stuff ("Sea Gypsies" and "The Adventures of the Wilderness Family"), bad family stuff ("Tammy and the T-Rex" and "Mac and Me), good B-films ("Ice Pirates" and "High Risk") and one really good B-film ("The Philadelphia Experiment"). He always struck me as a solid director with a good eye for composition (his family films with nature and animals look very good).
Anyway, "High Risk" is another MIA-on-DVD film from the 80s. I'm stilll amazed that we are over two decades removed from then, and there are still a whole bunch of films that have fallen between the cracks.
Posted by Zombo (Member # 8405) on :
I'd love to see a quality release of "High Risk" on DVD.
Another big one for me is "Ruckus," with Dirk Benedict and Linda Blair. It was similar to the later "First Blood," but less over-the-top, and with a brighter ending. Saw it some 30 years ago, and would love to see it again!
Posted by aTomiK (Member # 6575) on :
Ruckus is a cool little film. The dvd was released back in 2000 and goes for big money these days.
