There's one movie in my mind it might have been - but at the moment the name escapes me. I think it might have had Rob Lowe in it though. Does this sound possible? There was a scene on a boat with him and an older woman as I recall - but that's just about all I remember!

The movie with Rob Lowe that you are speaking of is CLASS. It also starred Jaqueline Bissett and Andrew McCarthy. But it didn't have a murder plot.

It's definitely CLASS. She was in the original Casino Royale, which is definitely worth seeing. If you see the new(ish) Peter Sellars movie (with Geoffrey Rush and Charlize Theron) it will give you some insight into how long that movie took to make. Casino Royale (the original) is not that great.
She was a highly sought after model in the 80s so you can probably find out a lot about her that way. I don't think she was in any danger of winning an Oscar.
