So, what is your opinion on remakes and/or 80s cartoons that are now movies.
I can tell ya, I am tired of the super heroes and 80s cartoons getting turned into movies.
I am really ticked that they are REMAKING.."NEAR DARK"!!!!
A lot of people havent seen it but, it is one of the BEST vampire movies from the 80s in my opinion. And it is getting remade.

Oh man, they CAN'T remake near dark... Impossible
Without those actors and Tangerine Dream soundtrack, there IS no Near Dark...
"Listen to the night...Isn't it deafening?"

I don't like it, but what can you do?

The originals are better than the remakes.

I really need to get a copy of near dark. I've never seen it...

To be honest I though Near Dark was a real let down. I'd be up for a remake...not all remakes suck!

I agree. I didn't think the movie was all that great. And some remakes ARE good. They're often few and far between, but they are out there.

Well, for me, it's kinda 50 / 50. I do like plenty of remakes, but there's also a few I don't like...if I may offer some personal examples:
My ideas of good remakes = *Halloween *Hairspray (even if it was mostly based on the musical version) *Transformers
My ideas of bad remakes = Few & far between. But out of the remakes I dislike, my least favorite is the one for "The Shining". Kubrick told the story sooooo much better, IMO.
Now, as for remaking movies myself...it would kinda depend. For example, I don't think I'd remake "Purple Rain" or "Britannia Hospital" (& the idea of remaking "Under The Cherry Moon" is a maybe--just maybe), but I would probably remake "Rock & Rule" (in live-action) & a couple of other films. Then I'd draw the line, unless others wanted me to make some more.

They may want to try and consider remaking bad films for a change; as long as they know where it went wrong and how to correct it, it couldn't hurt. Besides, then they wouldn't have as much pressure to deliver by the executives and would have more range to work with. Just a thought...

Now that would be something.

They already tried it - with less than 100% success.....
Witness Star Wars Episodes 1-3 (Lucas still maintains that the first three movies he made weren't quite as he would have liked them, implying that the recent three were...)

I love the 'Star Wars' universe and everything about it, but the prequels were a giant letdown for me. Maybe it's my age.

I agree, I never understood why King was so upset with this version. Nor do I understand why he was so bent on getting remade. So many movies based on his books have been dreadful, why he singled this one out in particular is perplexing.
I'm on the fence with regards to remakes in general. I think if its done well and has a new twist then a remake can work, but most don't. The trend will run its course eventually though. Unless Hollywood gets desperate and comes out with a film adaptation of The Waltons or something. They will have to run out of source material eventually.

I think it really depends on the movie itself. The old one could be just okay and then they make another one and it's just okay too. The Fog was just okay. The remake was diappointedly just okay. Why bother?

I'm really looking forward to the CGI ThunderCats movie.

Let's hope they can land at least one surviving cast member, preferably Larry Kenney for Lion-O one more time.

Uh..my son and I totally bonded during the Transformers. Okay, so he laughed at me when I cried about Jazz but still, I LOVED that movie!

I haven't seen Transformers yet, but my 2 year old girl is crazy about robots. Every time she sees a poster of it at Blockbuster she wants it. Is that movie too mature for her ya think?
Posted by AnonymousRex (Member # 6162) on :
probably not. She may not get half the humor in it but she'll still enjoy it. My kids are almost 15 and 12 and are JUST NOW starting to get more of the humor in Finding Nemo. Those movies are all like that, they have universal appeal because the kids get the animation and the subject matter but alot of the humor is more adult oriented, but totally clean.
