I'm wondering if you can help me with some movie choices. My daughter is 11 and while she likes to think that she's oh so mature, she isn't. I monitor what she watches and in order trying to avoid "babying" her too much (why can't they watch cartoons forever?!) I'm trying to remember the movies I grew up with. Today I ordered Short Circuit, Flight of the Navigator, and Batteries Not Included. Does anyone have any recommendations on movies that are in this family friendly vein? I'm not ultra strict, I just want her to watch age appropriate stuff and besides, I just think movies were better in the 80's!

How about The Adventures of Milo and Otis, or any of the Ernest films, for starters?

Texas Chainsaw Massacre? Just kidding, I'd recommend E.T., The Goonies, Explorers, Gremlins 1 & 2, Bill And Ted's Excellent Adventure,Big Trouble In Little China, The Golden Child,Beverly Hills Cop 1 & 2, Back To The Future. I think the best place to go is on the left of the page where many 80s films are reviewed. I agree with you also that 80s movies were better.

I think also there are many films which don't contain much violence and bad language :
Dead Zone War Of The Roses The Burbs Can't Buy Me Love (very popular with rewinders) Vacation Christmas Vacation Ferris Bueller's Day Off Fletch The Monster Squad Over The Top Planes Trains And Automobiles Santa Claus The Movie Spaceballs Stand By Me Teen Wolf UHF

My choices are personal favourites, yet also films popular with Rewinders. I've often bought films based on the opinions of people on this site and can't think of a time when I've been disappointed.

You could probably also include Uncle Buck, The Great Outdoors and even The Blues Brothers if you pre-screen it personally first to know when to hit mute.

I love seeing this thread. I have an 8 year old step daughter, and my wife and I wont let her see anything but PG and G rated movies. Strangely considering our neighbors and what her friends watch, this seems extremely strict. I take solace in this thread.

My mom and dad were the same way, Phanstar. I'm no prude, but I think kids today watch stuff that they really shouldn't be watching. Good for you and your wife!
