I cannot remember the title of a cold war movie that I watched not too long ago and it's really getting on my nerves.
The end scene has MIRVing warheads hitting LA, the whole movie is about a rumor of the Russians lauching a first strike, and people reacting to the news. The opening scene is I believe in a diner.
Thanks,
Kaleb

Perhaps it's called Fail Safe

or maybe it's Dr. Strangelove

No, it's a lot newer than either of those. I think that it's only a couple of years older than War Games. I've searched IMDB, but I can't find it.

Finally found it on amazon.com. The name is Miracle Mile.

I just got done watching Miracle Mile again!! I could have swore someone started a thread about it??........It really is an awesome movie!!
I saw it for the first only a few years ago and on a second viewing I love it even more.
Tangerine Dream sdtrk..........artistic, beautiful screen shots (spinning clock)........totally 80s mall shots and fitness club shots haha
The build up of all that's going on really gets going and stays going.......I felt my heart racing a few times.
Kelly Jo Minter our favorite Summer School student has a tiny part blink and you'll miss her.
Seriously though it isn't often I get super impressed with an 80s movie I didn't see in the 80s.

Hey Muffy.. I actually planned on doing a "Miracle Mile" thread last week .. but the earth was suppose to end.. so I didn't think it was worth the extra effort. ha
"Miracle Mile" is a bizarre flick and sticks with you for quite awhile after watching it. It is similar to "After Hours" except with an end of the world as a possibility twist. It is just a crazy ride of emotions and that ending.. wow
It plays out like a kooky modern romance flick that keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering if what is happening is real.

Thanks for the backup Valman!
I thought of the whole "end of the world" we just delt with while watching totally!
I would almost say After Hours and maybe an "adult" Night of the Comet? whatcha think?
The sdtrk was so great!

I remember back in the late 80s when i saw Miracle Mile the first time, i was so "in it" that i didnīt even breath for about 90 minutes or so. (i guess that explains my brain damage ) Itīs a huge trip!
Always loved the Tangerine Dream soundtrack, it builds up the tension perfectly.
Director Steve De Jarnatt did two classics (this and Cherry 2000) and after that itīs only tv-work. I donīt know what happened...

Muffy touched on it.. but one of the main reasons to watch this movie is the oddly awkward fitness club scene.
And of course .. the real star and hero of "Miracle Mile".. powerlifter/helicopter pilot .. Brian Thompson. If you don't know his name.. don't worry because when you see him, you'll go .. "Oh yeah, that guy."
