As a former creature of the night in the 80's, I have always enjoyed a good Vampire movie. My guess is that most people will vote "The Lost Boys" as the best Vamp movie of the 80's. I tend to agree because of the music and the feel of the movie when Michael is intertwined with the Bad Boys of the night, but another movie called "Near Dark" has even more of a jolt for the wreckless blood cravers.

Near Dark

I've saw both and still prefer Lost Boys. Was that Lance Henriksen (sp?) in Near Dark?

Yes. Lance was one of the best talents in the James Cameron-Kathryn Bigelow continuity of the late 80s. My favorite role of his was as Bishop in "Aliens", especially when he did the knife trick on Bill Paxton.

Getting back to vampire movies, I think that one of the more underrated titles was "Vamp". I thought it was a great horror comedy, especially with Grace Jones' role. She's totally wacky and violent, yet strangely alluring at the same time. The second half of the movie was an extensive chase scene and I always like those. The ending was funny as well.

Sincerely,

John Kilduff

Got to love Lost boys, all time favourite. I only recently purchased Vamp after putting a post up on here about a vampire film i saw years ago, and was told Vamp was it and it was. I still think Vamp is a great film.

'Lost Boys' wins every time Valley [Cool] <----semi-vampire in the day time.

Glad John bought up the Bishop knife trick from 'Aliens' back in school we all tried copying that, most of us substituted pencils for knives, the more daring, a compass; needless to say; someone always missed...

I think my username will give it away but "Lost Boys" all day long for me.

The cast,
The Story,
The humour,
The soundtrack,
The era.

"Death by stereo"

I love Lost Boys, cuz it was starring kids and it was hip and scary when you first saw it.

My boyfriend LOVES Near Dark, but that is much more gruesome in a way, but it's still very good.

People might have really liked it if it wasn't for LB, I mean you really can't get any better than that!

Nobody has mentioned "Fright Night" yet...surprising?

ok..how about "Once Bitten" versus "My Best Friend Is a Vampire". Do you get them confused or do you think one is better than the other?

I recently met corey feldman and corey haim and they we're great! Haim did the line 'Death by stereo!' for me and he still has it.
I love the lost boys!

I just picked up Once Bitten and Vampire's Kiss the other day.

I had never seen Vampire's Kiss before and thought it was quite different but funny in a good way - Nick Cage gives a fantastic performance in this one.

Near Dark has alway been the more thinking man's vampire movie, and Lost Boys has a bit more glamour and bang for your buck. I remember Graveyard shift too being a decent vamp flick. Loved Fright Night as well,

Fright Night is my favorite 80's vampire film. The others are good, especially Lost Boys, but if I had a choice, I'd watch Fright Night over anything else.

Oh man.. "My Best Friend is a Vampire" was such a great movie and it's sorely needing a DVD release!

I have yet to see "My Best Friend is a Vampire", really should get the VHS sometime. edit: just seen it's available on DVD as "I Was A Teenage Vampire" from play.com for a fiver!

One of the best 80s vampire movies is IMHO Lifeforce, soul sucking space vampires (and I did the review on this site)

Anyone on the prowl for more 80s vampire flics should avoid "Teen Vamp" like the plague, well unless you like bad movies [Wink]

Saw the "Near Dark" thread and it reminded me of this thread. I still would vote "The Lost Boys" as my fav vampire flick, but "Near Dark" deserves recognition in my opinion.

These are both great. I love a good Vamp flick. Near Dark vs. Lost Boys. Tough choice cause they're different. Fright Night as well. Love them all. I even like the more modern Vamp flicks like the whole Blade series, both Underworld's, Queen of the Damned, From Dusk Till Dawn, etc.

I didn't really like Near Dark that well. I watched it for the first time last year around Halloween, but I thought it was kind of boring.

We watched The Lost Boys, the night before we met The Two Coreys, and I love everything about that movie. I love the Grandpa...Diane Weist is awesome (I could never believe she was the same person -when I realized she played the mother in Footloose-she looked completely different-and those movies were only a few years apart).

I also have great memories associated with Fright Night.

Didn't Salems's Lot have vampires in it...or something close to them??
