Most of you know that I'm an 80's movie buff, but I was thinking that everyone has a movie that might surprise their friends to mention that have never seen before or at least watched all of it.

I'll start with a shocker....

I've never seen "Raiders Of The Lost Ark". I had numerous chances, but if it was on a movie channel back in the 80's, I'd always say I wanted to wait until I could watch it from the beginning. Then time past by and I never went back and watched it. I've seen the sequels, but never the original. [Eek!]

Please tell Bionic Bigfoot I'm sorry. [Wink]

What about you?

I've never seen any of the following movies:

-"Valley Girl"

-"Some Kind Of Wonderful"

-"She's Having A Baby"

-"Planes, Trains And Automobiles"

-"A Nightmare On Elm Street"

-"Friday The 13th"

-"Uncle Buck"

-"Can't Buy Me Love"

-"The Sure Thing"

-"The Last American Virgin" (But that's because I already know the ending and it all too painfully reminds me of the current state of my love life)

I've sort of gravitated to the lesser-known 80s movies.

Just a little thing about me.

Sincerely,

John Kilduff

"The Last American Virgin"

"Raiders Of The Lost Ark" or "The Last Crusade" (but I have seen "The Temple Of Doom" on TV dozens of times)

"Sign O' The Times" (darn me!)

And scores of others...

I don't know if it's technically 80's, but I've never seen any of the star wars movies.

Posted by Spooka Lupa (Member # 2700) on :

Same here, I've seen bits of the older ones and (unfortunately) all of the first two prequels. I didn't like the prequels, but I'm sure the older ones were better.

Let's see...I've never seen Friday the 13th, St. Elmo's Fire, Better Off Dead, Lucas, any Corey movie other than Lost Boys (not including movies with only one Corey), Weird Science, any of the Indiana Jones movies, Day of the Dead or any of the trilogy, Night of the Living Dead, Dirty Dancing, The Elephant Man, Fast Times at Ridgmont High, Heathers, The Howling, Lethal Weapon, and I'm sure much more that'll get a, "*gasp!* Got out and rent it NOW!!!"

It's cool, if I'm really in the mood to see something I'll see it. I've gotta get me a copy of See No Evil, Hear No Evil. Good flick. I should rent more Gene Wilder stuff.

Spooka Lupa - See No Evil Hear No Evil isn't actually as good as you might think. Of all the Wilder / Pryor movies, this is my least favorite.

I was wondering on the real purpose of this thread - can we use it to shame people into watching these movies? If so, I have a few edicts to issue.

Firstly, Sam, you HAVE to watch ROTLA. It's way better than the others, IMHO.

John, I'm stunned that you've not seen Some Kind Of Wonderful, The Sure Thing, or Planes Trains and Automobiles. I expect to see a correction issued on that score soon, and an apology for being so lax!

Back to you, Lupa (thought you'd escaped, didn't you!): Weird Science and FTARH are the ones for you - we'll get to the rest of your list later.

For shame.....

[Embarrassed]

I have never seen TOP GUN either.

Posted by ISIS (Member # 1780) on :

I have seen so many movies now that people have recommended off here, so my list is doing down.

But, I have never seen:

The Mad Max movies
Blade Runner
The Blues Brothers
Uncle Buck
The Great Outdoors
The Monster Squad

I have seen little pieces of a few of them, but never watched the whole movie.

"Valley Girl"

Posted by Brandon777 (Member # 4014) on :

Wow!!! I can't believe some of you have never seen Raiders of the Lost Ark. That's one of my favorite movies of all time. It's a staple in my life. I've seen it a hundred times. The music, acting, and story rules.

Let's see, I've never seen:
Dirty Dancing (I saw a couple of parts)
Short Circuit
Robocop (I saw a couple of parts)
Some Kind of Wonderful

For those who only saw The Temple of Doom and no other Indy films, do not assume that the others are like it. Raiders is 10 times better than The Temple of Doom. I liked Temple of Doom, but it seemed more geared towards kids. Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade are totally different and better. Raiders of the Lost Ark is the best out of all of them.

Wow, I feel special! So far I HAVE seen everything on here that you guys haven't!

I'm trying to think of a film I haven't seen but nothing comes to mind. I know I've seen all the classics and some of the obscure, but I need some mre titles thrown out because my mind is blank at this point!

I get excited reactions from people when I tell them I've never seen:

When Harry Met Sally
I'm Gonna Get You Sucka
HairSpray
Diner

Until recently I hadn't seen Drugstore Cowboy. What an excellent movie! I'm kinda glad I didn't see that when it was released because I don't think I would have appreciated the signifigance of the film as a 15 year old. Matt Dillon was great as always.

I second the praise of 'Drugstore Cowboy', great movie.

As for me... ‘Valley Girl’ (apologies to my wingman) ‘Friday The 13th’, ‘Better Off Dead’, ‘This Is Spinal Tap’, ‘Who’s That Girl?’ and the one I’m most proud of...‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ (only because the Video store used the alternative title ‘Boy Rents Girl’ so I always thought it was a movie about hookers).

Valley, dude, watch 'Raiders...' will you, its the best one.

"Bull Durham" Same issue, always on TV but I wanted to watch from the beginning.

My netflix subscription eliminated my other embarrassing misses.

Posted by Valley (Member # 1322) on :

Wow, some interesting revelations on this thread. Kash, my wingman, is a bit bent out of shape about my Raiders Of The Lost Ark confession. And to think he missed "Boy Rents Girl" because he thought it dealt with a little extra nightlife. I think he might of just lost that lovin' feeling. Dude, you have to find "Better Off Dead" as well, those hamburgers do a great Van Halen "Everybody Wants Some".

Sam, I actually own the Special Collectors Edition of E.T., but I've only watched it one more time than you. If you phone home often and love Reese's Pieces then you might want to watch this movie. Otherwise, just pop in Meatballs II and enjoy the real E.T.,,,,,,,Meathead.

I'm sadden that so many of our friends in the UK haven't had the chance to watch "Valley Girl" and judge if they like it for themselves. But AnGel EyeZ, your from NJ JerzShoreBaby....you need to watch this movie and then get back to us. [Wink] [Cool]

Oh, and I've never seen "RoboCop", either.

Sincerely,

Actually, I think we all got to see that movie on a thread earlier today. [Big Grin]

Reporter: Robo, excuse me, Robo, any special message for all the kids watching at home?
RoboCop: Stay out of trouble.

I was thinking and I only saw parts of Rumble Fish starring Matt Dillon. I guess I will have to get that on DVD and try again.

Posted by ISIS (Member # 1780) on :

I bought Rumble Fish, and I don't remember much about it, other than I couldn't make it through it, and I didn't understand it, and I didn't like it much.

Posted by eightieschick (Member # 4385) on :

I don't think I've ever seen Against All Odds in its entirety- it is one of those shown on tv all the time that I just catch snippets of.
Others I have not seen:
Commando, Elephant Man, The Fly, Just One of the Guys, Live and Die in LA, Any of the "Cory" movies except Lost Boys, Ordinary People, Rumble Fish, and of course Valley Girl. I could go on and on, but I think alot of those movies are ones that my friends have all seen, but not me. I will catch up some day, I'm already starting to. I've been renting alot of movies this winter.
What movie have you all seen too many times, but just can't pull yourself away from the tv? For me that would be Roadhouse- so bad that it's good! Also Point Break. It must be a Swayze thing.

Posted by Ali_with_an_i (Member # 27) on :

I know it was based on S.E. Hintons book, the same author of The Outsiders, and Coppola directed both. The outsiders was a great film and a pretty good adaptation. So many young awesome actors, it's sad cuz Tom Cruise was good in his small part but we all know what happened to him....

Posted by Ali_with_an_i (Member # 27) on :

Just One Of The Guys is a must see! I love that movie. The brother cracks me up every time!

By the way, anybody seen Hamburger The Motion Picture? That is so stupid but funny. Sadly it's not on DVD, just HBO once and a great while. I know Devo appreciates it, just wondering baout the rest of you people. [Big Grin]

Here's movies I recommend seeing, that rarely I hear people talking about:

The Night the Lights went out in Georgia
Rich Girl
Curse 2-The Bite
Silent Scream
Blood Song
Bloody Birthday

Before I came on the Rewind I had never seen:
The Sure Thing
Morgan Stewart's Coming Home
Say Anything
Fire with Fire
Electric Dreams
Milly Willy/Something Special
Just one of the Guys
The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane
Hot Dog: The Movie
Spring Break
Spring Fever
Better off Dead
No Small Affair

Posted by Brandon777 (Member # 4014) on :

Some more I've never seen:

Streets of Fire
Against All Odds
Days of Thunder
Stripes (I saw part of it)

And for my shocker, which is probably late 70's and not 80's is "Animal House".

Posted by Brandon777 (Member # 4014) on :

I just saw another thread about a movie I didn't see. This is probably a shocker. I have never seen "Ghostbusters". I did see the ending, but that's it.

Brandon777-I own Animal House, and I still haven't watched it all the way through yet, every time I try to, it bores me to death. I have never figured out what was so great about it.

Diner
The Last American Virgin ('cause I already know the ending, I really don't want to get in a weird mood)
9 to 5
After Hours

Despite my massive love for '80s movies (and I've been watching 'em since not too long after the actual decade ended--around 1992), there's actually quite a few big ones I've yet to see. What's sadder is, I actually own some of them, but haven't made time to watch 'em yet. [Wink]

In a way, I like that because it means I've still got "new" '80s stuff to explore (I keep worrying I'm running out of stuff from that era sometimes, LOL).

For starters, off the top of my head:

Valley Girl
License to Drive
This is Spinal Tap
Vision Quest (though I love the songs from it!)
48 Hours
St. Elmo's Fire
Top Gun
Lost Boys

OMG, I really think you'd like those two. I'm biased 'cause I've been a big fan of John Candy for over a decade, but they're both funny in that "silly, but slightly serious/heartfelt" way.

Have you seen 1985's Summer Rental, which he's also in? Another one of those cool family vacation type movies.

Wow, there are so many movies that are really unknown (to the general populace) here in Oz. A lot of the films you guys call classics probably never got released at all here. Because of that, I have never seen -

16 candles
Pretty in Pink
Last American Virgin
Vision Quest
Witchboard
Valley Girl
Just one of the guys
April Fools Day

In fact, I'd never heard of any of them, except those from the Molly Ringwald "oevre"

Of course there are others I just haven't gotten around to seeing -

Licence to drive
Welcome home Roxy Carmichael
Teen Wolf Too
Mask
18 Again
Beastmaster
Revenge of the nerds
Porkys
The little mermaid
BMX Bandits
Secret of my success
Roxanne
Robocop
The adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai
Baby Boom
All the right moves

I would in addition be keen on writing reviews of them for the Rewind.

The Handyman.
Special Treatment.

Just noticed this movie in another thread...I've actually never seen The Neverending Story. I've also yet to watch the Back to The Future sequels, which is surprising considering BTTF is one of my favs of all time.

Seeing threads like this again just reminds me how few people had actually seen the movies we consider 'classics' back in the day. In was even worse in the first half of the 2000's.

Oh you should - if only to know that you've seen it more times than George Lucas.....

Actually, Howard isn't that bad a flick - there are certainly worse movies about aquatic birds displaced in space and time that end up with hot chicks from rock bands trying to save a planet from an evil alien force.

I might need some more convincing. Leah Thompson doesn't do it for me either.

When I watch SKOW, I am always thinking about Mary Stewart Masterson. I didn't think she looked that great in most other movies. Well in Chances Are she did, but in SKOW she is gorgeous. I once chickened out asking out a girl that looked exactly like her.
