I just remember when I first say this movie. It was probablly in '96 or '97. I found a cheap VHS copy of it at Bud's Warehouse where my friend used to work. We ended up watching it that night and it totally made me want to fall in love again, but in the healthy unobsessive way. I really wanted to hear the song in it because it is such a powerful song.
I remember my friend falling asleep and me balling as it was over listening to that song.
Did anyone else like or dislike this film? Why??

I liked it somewhat....it is so weird and that family in it is just kind of creepy...that it is really uncomfortable to watch...but the people are so good looking, and it was made in the 80's, so it is cool to see how people lived then (that's why I love 80's movies...is seeing some of the same stuff we had in our house then, or seeing something you were wearing).
But, it is rather depressing at the end, and I don't remember feeling very good after watching it.

Endless Love is a good movie that hit the cord of feelings that someone experiences the first time they fall in love. It showed the intensity that a first love can cause and how desperate your emotions can become when that love is taken away from you. From a parent's perspective this movie is a train wreck with your child on board, but from a teenager's perspective it is a love story you truly understand.
Plus you get to see Tom Cruise in a early role...don't blink.

James Spader is so hot in this! I should dust off my VHS copy and give it a spin again.

Agree Jessie this is an emotional rollercoaster of the first order. Was around 14/15 when I first saw it on TV (probably the perfect age), and I can honestly say it reduced me to tears, primarily of anger and frustration. The part of David was so well acted, that I completely sympathised with his desperation mindset that drove him to arsen. So pure is his love, that you really do want him to fool her family and get away with it, but of course that's never going to happen...
Right the way through the torturous period in the hospital, to the spine-tinglingly cathartic scene where he's reunited with Jade only to have her end their relationship (and his determination that this will not be allowed to happen), to the final crushing moment of his arrest and - we must presume - permanent split from her, I was deeply moved.
Only 2 other films - The Elephant Man & Dead Poet's Society - have ever left me in this state, and that's saying something I assure you. Granted it's probably not a masterpiece, but for sheer bittersweet heartbreak little else beats it IMO.
Plus, two words, Brooke Shields... . I don't think there's a man alive who wouldn't fall head over heels for her character in this movie, absolutely stunning.

ohhh being a young girl when this came out... of course it appealed to me. It was one of those bitter sweet type movies though. I did like it though.

Watched Endless Love last night. It was a good movie and the cast did a great job.
I think that Martin Hewitt (Out of Control, Two Moon Junction) was good as the frustrated teen. The mental prison scenes were heartbreaking. Shields looked amazing as usual and it was great to see James Spader.
The Cruiser part was so hilarious but you got to start somewhere And i canīt believe that Hewittīs character actually started the fire, how stupid can you be?
A movie canīt be bad if the main character is listening "I Was Made for Loving You" by Kiss
I didnīt know that the Diana Ross/Lionel Ritchie theme tune became a #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, and was the biggest-selling single in Ross' career. Canīt believe the film still has yet to be released on dvd in the US.
