Any Tremors fans out there? I have all four movies. I'm not obsessed with them or anything, but I hold a special place in my heart for them.
It was my dad that started it. He's a big Sci-Fi fan and the Sci-Fi Channel has some sort of obligation to air the movies once every two weeks in big marathons. They even had a television show going for awhile, but I didn't watch it--I didn't really like it. I might have if I'd sat through at least one episode, but I didn't remember when it came on and I'm fairly certain it's cancelled now.
Of course my favorite character is Burt. I must say that I didn't miss Kevin Bacon's character after the first one. Fred Ward is, well . . . y'know, he does whatever Fred Ward does. And every movie has to have the obligatory handsome new guy because Burt doesn't mix with love stories (married in the first one, and they hinted at romance in the fourth installment with Burt's "ancestor" and it just didn't work). To go with the obligatory handsome new guy they throw in the obligatory sexy new girl, with a mix of some Ariana Richards every once and awhile (Aw, she was so little in the first one, and in the third one she's all grown up!). It was nice to see Ariana Richards in a movie after Jurassic Park (she was the little blonde girl, by the way).
My favorite one would have to be the second one. I liked the Shriekers and the characters interacted nicely. The butt-launching weirdos in the third one just didn't do it for me. I actually saw the Asian girl from the third one in an episode of Monk, and she had one line (maybe two). I was like, "Hey, it's that one lady from Tremors 3!"
Now, you might think I liked the fourth one the least, for those of you who have seen it. I actually thought it had its good points and its bad points, but it wasn't too bad. It was a bit corny using the old "use the same actor to play their original character's ancestor/descendent/evil twin" technique, but it was neat to see folks fighting off Graboids without the handy technology of today.
I actually liked the third one the least, despite having Burt as the main character for it. I think it was the flying creatures that got me, they just didn't seem as scary as the Graboids and the Shriekers. Maybe it was their "roar"--The sound they made wasn't particularly intimidating. Plus they butt-launch, so maybe that just seemed too goofy to make you think the characters were in real danger. Plus Jack "the New Guy" and his rugged outdoorsman/con artist shtick seemed kind of annoying. "A pahtaytah guhn!" Ack.
The first one was more horror than science fiction, and the rest sort of evolved into whatever it is you'd call it now. The scenes with the Graboids actually seemed scary (with the gore and all), though I haven't really come to expect a whole lot of scary in these movies (I just expect something to look like it'd be scary for the characters.).

Great movie and an 80s movie also, thanks to the copyright date (it's one of Universal's only "80s-by-copyright-date" films). This is one of those movies that just grabs you whenever it's on. It stops you dead in your tracks and hooks you in.

I enjoyed the 1st one and I saw the 2nd too. That's as far as I've been in Tremorville. I would like to buy the 1st one. I haven't seen it in awhile.

i've got part 1 and it's classic. til this day, my brother and i will say lines from it. "but, we can't all ride on the bulldozer?"
i have also seen part 2, but don't remember much about it and i have never seen 3 or 4. didn't they make a show about this? or am i not thinking right?

Yeah, they made a TV show and tried to be a bit more serious with it, but I don't remember much because I didn't watch it. I think they had a bunch of weird creatures (other than the Graboids, Shriekers, and ***blasters) show up in Perfection.
I loved the Gummers going crazy with the ammo in the first one when the Graboid went through the wall in their house.

Yes there is definately something about the first one that makes you watch it ever time that it is on. I don't know exactly why it is so appealing.
I did see the second one but wasn't near as enticing as the first. I haven't watched any of the others or the TV series. Interesting to see how they would drag that out in a series???

Kevin Bacon was footloose in this one.
I enjoyed the first one and the others kept Alex Keaton's dad employed for awhile.
