I was just thinking about how powerful her work was in the 1986 film 'Night Mother. Has anyone watched that with the same kind of amazement that I have? She and Anne Bancroft were just so awesome in this. The whole things flows so nicely. Granted the story is extremely depressing, but not all good things that can really make you think about life are going to make you laugh.
I also loved her in Coal Miner's Daughter, Carrie--which I haven't seen all of the way through or in a really long time, and The River. When she was trapped under that tractor and her arm was caught. I remember thinking that looked so real.
I also liked her in the movie Hard Promises opposite William Petersen. She really doesn't look like she has aged much in the last 30 years, good genes I guess?
What are your favorite Sissy roles?

I've only seen her in Carrie and Coal Miner's Daughter (I think) to tell you the truth. I think she looks like a very nice person, like she'd be really down-to-earth and easy to talk to. Scared me to death in Carrie, though (very creepy movie, but John Travolta got blown up, which was funny).

My mom actually looks like a cross between Sissy Spacek and Amy Madigan, I always use to tell her that all the time.
Jessie, if you haven't seen Carrie the whole way through you definately should.
I love Coal Miner's Daughter, I was shocked that she did all her own singing in it.
She was in the movie "If these Walls Could Talk". Has anyone else ever seen it? It is from the 90's. It totally disturbed the heck out of me. Demi Moore was in the first little mini movie part, then Sissy Spacek and then Cher. I thought it was so well done.
It takes place over a span of 40 years, and deals with 3 different women's choice on wether to have an abortion, and it all takes place in the same house. Demi Moore's part takes place in the 50's, Sissy Spacek is in the 70's, and Cher/Anne Heche takes places in the 90's, and each one has a completely different choice that they make, it is very emotional, and hard to watch-especially the ending. Sissy Spacek had the easiest part-choice wise, I think, but she did a great acting job in it.

Sissy Spacek was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Country Vocal Performance for her version of the title song.
She also released her own country album a few years after the movie came out.

I had no idea she did her own singing. Well, the woman certainly has many, many talents. She can kill people while covered in pigs' blood AND sing you a country tune while she's at it.

I can't explain my hatred for Ms. Spacek, but I cannot stand that woman! I've never liked her as an actress and I always thought she was the wrong choice in all her roles. Maybe she grosses me out because the first film I ever saw her in was Carrie. Seeing her get dumped with pigs blood always grossed me out.
