Who do you think really stood out in the 80's, even early 90's? I mean there were so many up and coming talents like Tom Cruise, Kevin Bacon, Christian Slater and Keanu Reeves.
My picks would be Johnny Depp and River Phoenix. It's amazing to see how successful Johnny has become despite his penchant for choosing unique films and characters. There's really no one like him. And River, well, he was on his way...god only knows what wonderful work he had in his future .
So, who would you guys choose?

Devolution here,
John Cusack and Lea Thompson, for some reason, I would see anything that they were in. I just kind of knew it was going to be a good movie. Not all of them were good, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Actually, I did like movies with Steve Guttenberg as well.

Devolution, as soon as I saw this thread, I said those two... and you just snagged the carpet from under me. I also say John Cusack and Lea Thompson, my favorite actor and my favorite actress. If you pared them with Cameron Crowe, my favorite director, you'd have the trifecta of awesome (if Lea was a bit younger, she could've played Diane Court in Say Anything...).
Lea movies are usually of varying quality, but I enjoy them depending on how much Lea is actually in the movie. Cusack movies I can always watch, I was up late last night watching In The Garden Of Good And Evil ... and I really dislike court movies that take place in the south, but Cusack made me watch.

I'll go with John Cusack for a male actor, and females..... well it's tougher being quite so fair. Individual performances stand out, but nobody specifically comes to mind. I enjoyed Diane Lane in Streets Of Fire, I thought that Michelle Pfeiffer was really good in Into The Night and The Russia House, and for the roles that she was given, Meg Ryan played the cute ditzy blonde really well, especially in When HArry Met Sally.
Of these three, if I had to choose I'd probably say Meg Ryan, if only because I can think of more good roles than either of the others, both during the 80s and since then.
Paul Shooting Wamp-rats in my Speeder since I was so-high

Okay I simply have to say the Corey's on this one. Teen wise that is. But if I had to pick someone that really stood out in the 80s I would have to go with River Phoenix.
Adult wise I loved Tom Hanks--Splash, Big, Volenteers, The Burbs, Bachelor Party.
I really loved a lot of people so it is kind of hard to pick.
