I was out shopping today at Suncoast Motion Picture Company and I found this 80s horror b-movie burried in the Sci-Fi section. I remember when I was little I would see this coverbox at the video store and always wanted to check it out, but never did, because I was too chicken-the dude on the cover looks spooky. I guess I had forgotten about it all these years until today. I was glad to see it on dvd, so I bought it. I hope it's a good one, it sounds interesting anyway. Does anyone know of this movie?
Valley? Mamamia? Devo?
I am going to watch it tonight and I will find out whether or not I like it.

I believe I did see this one. Hard to say though because there were a few movies that were set at a drive in if my memory serves me correctly. I believe this one is Australian, but don't quote me on that. If it's the one I'm thinking of it was pretty decent.

yes, sam...the film location is sydney, australia, according to IMDB and on the back of the dvd describes it as an 80s australian thriller. looking forward to seeing it.

Oh i remember this cover too. I haven't ever seen it either. I hope it becomes available to rent on DVd because I am so there for it. It really is an eye catching cover. isn't it funny how some movies that really stink have the best covers and then some that are really good have really boring covers.

thank you, sams, mamamia, jess, & CT for replying. i only got to see half of the movie, because i fell asleep. but i will finish it up later. so far, it's quite different from what i expected but has been pretty good. i pegged it as a horror movie, but it's pretty much a futuristic, sci-fi type film. lots of 80s punkish clothing and cool 80s music in it, but nothing that i recognized. still, so far so good.

Watched Dead-End Drive In, or just Dead End like it was released here, today. What a movie! Perfect 80s feeling!
Directed by Brian Trenchard-Smith and starring Ned Manning and Natalie McCurry (she is HOT)
I love Trenchard-Smith´s (The Man from Hong-Kong, Turkey Shoot, BMX Bandits) style and need to find more his work.

I did rent this movie years ago basically because I loved the VHS cover. And the movie itself is far more original that I would have imagined. Actually it is a glimpse at a future that I probably would have enjoyed. I mean how many of us wouldn't like to have 'hot' girlfriend (or boyfriend depending on your viewpoint) while being confined to a drive-in that served all the fast food we wanted while showing unlimited movies? ha

That is a good soundtrack if it has Small Brave Land and others in that similar style on it. I'll try and catch this one sometime.

I was quite surprised by the originality too!
And i totally agree your point that the drive-in was a pretty cool place after all [Smile]
The drive-in was actually showing old Trenchard-Smith flicks and it was nice to spot John Landis´ Into the Night movieposter too. (There was also a Rambo poster earlier in the film)

Recently re-watched "Dead End Drive-In" (1986) on DVD - wow - what a quirky Australian film. It's set in the then-future of 1995, and is about a couple who get stuck in a drive-in after the wheels on their car get stolen. I had never heard of this film until about 2014; it's one of the many '80's movies that completely passed me by when it was first released (I'm guessing it may not have even been shown theatrically in the U.S. when it first came out).
The setting is somewhat dystopian, with a strong punk/new wave tone/vibe re: the clothing, hair-styles, etc. The movie reminds me somewhat of the first two "Mad Max" films, with a touch of the early '80's low-budget but classic punk rock flick "Suburbia" (1982).
Anyway, when I was a teen back in the day I wouldn't have minded being stuck in a drive-in like this - movies playing all night, plenty of junk food to eat (as long as you didn't run out of meal cards), and plenty of punk rock tattooed women everywhere . I would have had a problem with the psychos roaming around, however - LOL.
