I just saw the movie again on TV last weekend. So, in honor of the 25th Anniversary of this outstanding sports (boxing) movie, and also to coincide with the recent premiere of a new special-edition DVD release, today's highlight movie is Martin Scorsese's "Raging Bull", from 1980.
Robert DeNiro deservedly won a "Best Actor" Academy Award for his role as Jake LaMotta, a middleweight prizefight boxer during the 40's and early 50's. DeNiro had to get into prizefighting shape, then took six months off to fatten himself up for the later scenes. And if you saw the movie, you could tell that DeNiro's voice is breathing hard and showing the effects of being out of shape.
Very well-crafted, (loved the black-and-white photography), well-edited, and great supporting performances by Joe Pesci and Cathy Moriarty.
The only mystery is why hasn't Cathy never made a really good movie after this one?
What is everyone else's opinions of this movie?
