Has anyone ever seen this flick from 1979? It stars Linda Blair and about a bunch of kids trying to keep their roller disco open. It is getting ready to come on in a little bit and I am going to watch it. I will let you know what I think about it.

I love Roller Boogie. Especially the clothes, and I love Linda Blair's car in it. I think it is a cute story. The guy who teaches her to skate was a professional roller skater. I love the song "Hell on Wheels" by Cher.

Has anyone seen the new Coke commercial...It plays cute music- I have heard the song before but don't know it-I think it is new, and they are roller skating on the boardwalk, and it really is cute. They have very retro clothes on, and I can only remember it says "Sparkle" in it.
There's a blonde haired girl in it, and she has shorts on and a pink tank top type shirt on.
It has been the first commercial in forever that I liked.

(besides the Groundhog seeing his shadow commercial)

Well I gotta admit this movie was as full of cheese as the cheetos that I just ate, but sometimes you just gotta love cheese! Cute little story. You know by today's standards Linda Blair would have been considered fat. Isn't that sad. I would recommend this to anyone that wants to take a step back in time.

When did the roller craze end and begin anyway? I think it would be cool now to go to a Roller Boogie. I mean that movie just made you think you didn't have a care in the world, just to skate on the boardwalk.

I loved the car also. I see that it is available on DVD and VHS don't know that I would purchase it but I would definately watch it again. The guy that played Bobby James only was in that show but he had won like 275 skating awards. Nobody ever knew what became of him. According to Jim Bray's tribute page off of imdb.com he was in a skating variety show but he has not been credited with it on his biography page. Does anyone know whatever became of him at all???

Hey Isis the song is called "Starry Eyed Surprise" by Paul Oakenfold. It's a fairly new song that I have always liked. That commercial is way cool. Actually the first time I heard "Starry Eyed Surprise" was a VH1 commercial last year and it totally rocked. [Cool]

Very Cool that you knew what I was talking about. I only just saw this commercial for the first time just a few days ago, and have seen pieces of it maybe 3 times since. It is very cool. I don't know for sure when skating started as such a fad. But every Saturday and sometimes Sunday afternoon when I was in the 4th grade we went skating. I skated almost every weekend until high school. It was a huge thing the whole time. And it was young people, and old, just all ages and you didn't have a care in the world, you just had fun, and listened to cool music, and you were wearing you designer jeans, and feathering your hair back, and skating every which way. I had those sneaker roller skates, and we would tie the laces together, and fling them over our shoulders, and walk up to the playground and skate or skateboard all afternoon on the weekends and in the summer. It was a blast.

Remember Farrah Fawcett on her skateboard?? Did anyone see the new show on TV Land called chasing Farrah?? I don't think it started yet, just previewed. Man, is she about half bonkers now. That's really sad. She was so beautiful. I loved Charlie's Angels, she was in her late 20's when she did that. I just saw a recent picture of Jacklyn Smith and she still looks good.

I remember Tootie skating all over the first season of the Facts of Life too.

I always loved in Liscense to Drive when they go to "Archie's" and they had roller skating waitresses there like from the 50's diners. I always thought that was the coolest thing, and you never see that ever.

I really do believe that most people don't do alot of "fun" stuff anymore like they use to.

I read an article in a Parenting magazine the other day about how the days of riding your bike to the neighbors house, or even walking to the neighbors, as a kid, those days are gone, and that is the part that bothers me the most, is the reason for why those days are gone, and that's because you can't trust people, because look what they are capable of-it is on the news every night. That is the saddest part of leaving go of the past, and why it is so hard for me, because it is hard to face the reality of the whole thing.

Sorry to bump this thread up, but I just wanted to respond to JLP397.

I tried to get Jim's "Roll Out" appearance onto imdb but the show is not actually listed in the database or really mentioned anywhere else. I couldn't find any proof that the show aired at all! Roller disco may have been on its way out then and perhaps the network decided to keep the program in the can.

As for his whereabouts, there was some talk (on old skate message boards) that he was managing a Red Lion hotel in Bakersfield during the mid 90s but he's not there anymore.

I love Roller Boogie so much! lol. If you're thinking of picking up the dvd, it can be had for less than 10 bucks (it's a bare boned version, though. only the trailer, sadly.)

I also really like that Coke commercial with the jam skaters.

Honestly, I think they should've chosen a real roller disco song for the Coke commercial. The retro clothing and hair didn't match up with the song from this decade. Paul Oakenfold is too modern for my tastes, and it surprised me that Isis would like the song, being as you don't like a lot of what's out there today. Why couldn't they have played some Chic or some Donna Summer? Not crapola techno...Anything but that.

Sincerely,

John Kilduff...The Rock Steady Flamethrower

Also, it doesn't help that I can't roller-skate for (bleep). I don't know how to roller-blade, ski or snowboard. When it came to bicycling, I was on training wheels until I was 9 or 10. In non-sports related matters, I can't whistle. What gets me most irritated, though, is when I announce that I can't snap my fingers to somebody, and then they automatically start doing it, saying to me that it's easy. Well, for me it's not.

Yeah, I guess you could say that envy is another reason why I don't like that Coke commercial.

Sincerely,

John Kilduff...The Rock Steady Flamethrower

On the money Jessie about being cheesy. Was introduced to Roller Boogie by a friend years ago. I dig this flick and own it. 2 favorite scenes have to be Blair in the closet lightly clad and when the guy comes flying around the corner on skates and jumps the row of barrels, cracks me up every time. Has anyone tried roller skating lately? Took the 6 year old on his 1st roller skating adventure and tried a pair of skates on myself and was surprised how difficult it was even though used to go skating all the time many years ago with no problem.

Both great fun though despite the bumps and bruises!

Roller Boogie is a fantastic feelgood film. I own it on vhs and dvd.
Great tunes + nice late 70s fashion and scenery. Highly recommended!
