Okay I may have covered this one way back when I started this thing about a year ago, but there are many new to the site so let's go over it again. I guess I am on a Whoopi kick right now. She plays Celie, a young woman who gets, basically sold to a man to be his wife and slave for his children. Wonderful supporting roles by Danny Glover and Oprah Winfrey. I still cannot fathom how it was completely shut out at the Oscars even with 11 nominations. It follows her struggles without her children and how she ends up coming out on top and getting her children and her sister back. Very moving picture that deserved much more credit that it ever got.
What do you think about the 1985 film "The Color Purple"?

I very much liked the film. It is also Steven Spielberg's first attempt to show that he can make other movies that don't deal with chase scenes, UFO's, homicidal sharks, adventure hunters, World War 2, or extra-terrestrials!
Whoopi and Oprah should've gotten Oscar awards for their performances!
TRIVIA: Margaret Avery got the part of Shug, after Tina Turner turned down the role.
