lets put it to a vote, and see who is one of TV Land's most appreciated

my nomination: Al "The King" Bundy

Posted by Chris the CandyFanMan (Member # 3197) on :

Adrian Monk for me.

This is my vote.

Tamara "Tammy" Henderson from "The Henderson Kids" on top of "The Henderson Kids 2."

No question about it, J.R. Ewing.

Posted by Leo Logan (Member # 9206) on :

I'm going with Mick Belker from "Hill Street Blues".

Lucas Buck!

Posted by Crash (Member # 7484) on :

A fan of "American Gothic." [Smile]

It's too hard to pick just one, but I might have to say Dale Cooper from "Twin Peaks."

Posted by Helen_S (Member # 5804) on :

Yeah, one of my faves [Big Grin] Watched the series through 7 times I think since its original airing. Lucas is such a *******. Gary Cole really was great in that role, some of the lines he had to say and his expressions just crack me up something rotten [Smile]

Gary Cole is always great, in everything--movies, TV, heck his cartoon voice work is great. Have you ever seen the forgotten 80's TV gem that he was in "Midnight Caller"? Just a terrific series that is still not out on DVD...

Posted by Helen_S (Member # 5804) on :

Yes, I watched that when I was a kid. I wish they'd put it out.

Posted by Pittsburghgirl (Member # 7514) on :

Helen S.- great pick! "Maybe you oughtta lay off a little of the cholesteroooollll". lmao.

My favorite would be Tommy Gavin from Rescue Me, because we have so much in common- disfunctional family, likes to drink, etc.

I'll have to add my vote to Balki, also!

Far too many great characters to single them out - and I doubt my favorites will be from the 80s, but here's a very abridged list:

Lt. Reginald Barclay (Star Trek The Next Generation). This is exactly how we would act, faced with such technology.

Latka Gravas (Taxi). Just a wonderful performance by Andy Kaufman.

Howard Cunningham (Happy Days). Utterly convincing, he always knew that despite his position in the family, he wasn't in any sort of control.

Another vote for JR Ewing. So good at being bad. [Big Grin]

Posted by Chris the CandyFanMan (Member # 3197) on :

If the moderators would prefer this thread stay 80s, then my alternate choice would be Bull Shannon, a wonderfully entertaining, complex creation.

i loved Tony Danza's character in Whos the Boss but who can go past the briliant MJFox in Family Ties enter the one, the only . . .

There are so many... but if i can say two of them...
it would probably be:
Larry Appleton and Balki Bartokomous from Perfect Strangers.

Posted by Johnny Roarke is reckless (Member # 9826) on :

Laura Palmer !

She still puzzles me to this day.

Posted by Pyro (Member # 7658) on :

Well, if we're talking of all time. I think my pick would have to be Lucy Ricardo "I Love Lucy." I mean, she's the queen of comedy. Come On. And still very funny.

But if we're talking just from the 80's. Then I'd say both Larry Appleton & Balki Bartokomous from "Perfect Strangers" would share the crown on my list. What can I say? I loved watching sitcoms growing up.

Devolution here,

Package, thanks.

It takes a certain type of person to realize the greatness that is the Bundy's. Easily the most quoted TV show of my life.

Favourite episode....Actually double episode is where they win the supermarket spree and have a face off with With Marcy and Jefferson....

Marcy: Hey wait a minute I was next in line!

Al: Whatta ya complaining about, you still are.

too many good ones for me to name a favorite.

velveeta annie, the notorious blue haired cheese bandit

Kid, don't you know that Gilles is the underworld name for cheese booster.

in 30 seconds everyone will be as cool as i remember myself being back in high school

Ed O'Neil, a fine, fine actor, was so brilliant as Al Bundy that you always wondered where Ed ended and Al began. Most actors play characters. Ed inhabited Al Bundy. Yet only a few of us, certainly not the Emmy voters, ever recognized what an indelible, iconic character he created.

What was one of his great soliliquies? Something like...
"I have a job selling shoes, a family that doesn't respect me, and car with a half a tank of gas--and payments. Yet every morning I don't stick a gun in my mouth. I'm not a loser."

that is one of my favorites as well

Posted by Crash (Member # 7484) on :

Yes!!! Classic.

Posted by The Good Package (Member # 9492) on :

i was talking to someone a while back about who was better on the show, steve rhoades or jefferson, i may have to side with steve, but i could see steve coming back later in the show and it still working even with jefferson there, actually would have made some great comedic situations, steve could have had the house on the other side of the bundys

Posted by Bernie_Lomax (Member # 8571) on :

Even better. Steve could be doing chores for Marcy, like gardening, shopping and walking the dog

Posted by The Good Package (Member # 9492) on :

that would be funny, a character like steve doing that

could you see rhoades in no maam?

Posted by The Good Package (Member # 9492) on :

they did touch on that on the 200th episode, he was a chauffeur

Burt Campbell from Soap. I know it was mainly in the 70's but it did go into the 80's. Some of the expressions that actor Richard Mulligan made were priceless

I just re-read this whole thread. I'm still going to go with Tommy Gavin as one of my favorites, and we still have so much in common- still the dysfunctional family, I'm still snarky and smart alecky, and I still like to drink, but do it a lot less than I used to.
Crash, I see you remembered Gary Cole in. Midnight Caller. I thought I was the only one who watched that show. I wonder if YouTube has any episodes. My husband watched some Hardcastle and McCormck a few weeks ago.
