Mainly known to UK telecvision fans, the great actor Graham Crowden passed away this week, aged 87.
His CV reads very well, with appearances in many television shows from the late fifties onwards, but he's probably best known as the wonderfully obstinate Tom in Waiting For God. However,, he really came to fame in the surreal and grimly realistic black comedy from the 1980s, A Very Peculiar Practice, in which he played Jock McCannon, alcoholic head of the medical department at Lowlands, a 'new' University campus. His complete distain for his patients, his cynicism at his colleagues, and his conspiracy theories about the establishnemt all shone through in a brilliant performance.
For those that recall his on-screen personae, he'll be missed.
