"21 Jump Street" was a police drama on the FOX Network for its first four seasons and in syndication for the final season. It was about a squad of undercover police officers. What set this show apart from others was the fact that the officers were all youthful looking enough to pass for high school or college students. This allowed them to investigate crimes like date rape, parental abuse, school violence, teenage drug usage..
21 Jump Street Cast:
Johnny Depp .................... Tom Hanson Michael DeLuise ................ Joey Penhall Frederic Forrest ............... Captain Jenko Steven Williams ................ Captain Fuller Peter DeLuise .................. Doug Penhall Dustin Nguyen .................. Harry T. Ioki Holly Robinson ................. Judy Hoffs Richard Grieco ................. Dennis Booker
Trivia:
21 Jump Street was the very first FOX Network series to air on that new network's very first night.
The Dennis Booker character played by Richard Grieco was going to be killed off at the end of the third season. When he proved to be extremely popular with audiences, the Fox Network not only kept Richard Grieco's role alive, they also gave him his own spin-off series titled, "Booker"!
I was never a regular viewer of this show, but watched it when I remember it was on. I really enjoyed it and you could really tell that Johnny Depp was going to be a huge star very soon. Really enjoyed Frederic Forrest from "Valley Girl" fame during his short stint as Captain. I was shocked when they killed off his character..
Part of why I watched this show was my memory of a similar tv show that was a spinoff of an old "Police Story" starring David Cassidy. The show was called .. "David Cassidy - Man Undercover".
I remember 'Under Cover' (I always forget the name though!) If I recall it was so-so. 'Plain Clothes' and 'Hiding Out' were far better.

Cool stars, great co-stars (Traci Lind, Josh Brolin, Sherilyn Fenn, Jason Lively etc) some nice tunes and so on.
I also own the season 2 package.
Never seen Under Cover but it looks interesting.

I do remember that episode, Willy. It's a good one with lots of good supporting actors. I looked it up and it's S03E06 called 'Hell Week'. This is one of my favorite shows, I never get tired of it.

after being off work ill for four straight days ive progressed from playing video games to watching loads of 21 episodes. I gotta tell ya there are loads of actors i recognised from loads of movies. Not very good with names, some i knew and some i just knew thier faces but shannon tweed, josh brolin are two which come to mind. Saw two guys from the wraith in the last episode i watched. Im sure there are just loads more. I remember just how hooked on this show at 14-16 i was back in 87-89. Lookin at the clothes and hair and free attitude with no PC was a breath of fresh air again...i need a time machine pronto.

21 Jump Street is a real blast from the past, but does anyone remember the short-lived Richard Grieco spinoff, Booker? I actually kind of liked that show even more. Interesting how Depp's career went way up, and Grieco's went pretty much nowhere...

yep agreed it is a really bad show however im tied to it from being hooked on it as a teenager and lookin up to tom hanson. still watch it now i have the box set and my friends think its terrible. atari games were really bad too in hindsight but i still love em.

I have to agree with you about the atari games but as far as 21 Jump street goes I'm gonna have to ahead and disagree with you there...ah yeahhh...I do however own the 2nd series of Jump Street cos I remembered vaguely watching it as a kid and so I bought it one day when I saw it and watched most of the series and then went into a state of denial that I watched it. I might put it on ebay and make a whopping loss. The Goonies on the other hand is a classic. Seen that way too many times.

*Even if you could reverse the effects I would advise you to become brain washed all over again.
I think it might be time to watch The Goonies again. It's been at least a couple years now since I watched it last.

Really? Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill in a "21 Jump Street" remake coming out March 16th, 2012. Supposedly Johnny Depp is gonna make an appearance in it.

This was a great show. A great group of characters who played off each other well and very hard hitting and deep storylines, A.I.D.S., Drugs, Racial Hatred, it was a very well done show and had allot of guts to deal with such sensitive and serious topic's. Patrick Hasburg and Stephen J. Cannell created a great series. I wish it would get a repeat showing over here. Yes you could really see that this was the ignition for Johnny Depp's amazingly varied career.
Great theme song too 21 Jump Street Theme Song Posted by Nostalgic for the '80's (Member # 37454) on :
"21 Jump Street" was an excellent '80's TV series, and really stood out against many of the other vapid teen series out at the time. As has been said, the show tackled many uncomfortable social issues of the day, and remained entertaining as well. Great acting, storyline, and '80's soundtrack (though I know some of the music was unfortunately changed for the DVD releases).
I myself was in high school back in the mid-late '80's, and remember reading an article at the time detailing how there were actual young policemen/policewomen planted undercover in schools to weed out drug dealers/addicts. So, the series was extremely true to life.
Ironically, I never saw the show when it was originally on for whatever reason, but caught most of the series on DVD back in the 200X's. This thread is making me want to re-watch this.
The less said about the crappy 2012 movie (starring Jonah Hill & Channing Tatum) the better - this was an awful film that made it seem (to those who weren't aware of the original show) that the TV series was a stupid comedy instead of an extremely well done dramatic series.
