Amazing Stories is a fantasy, horror, and science fiction television anthology series created by Steven Spielberg. It ran on NBC from 1985 to 1987.The series was nominated for 12 Emmy Awards and won five.
The thing about Amazing Stories for me is I watched them on Sunday nights and couldn't wait for that intro to start. Watching them now....they are like mini 80's movies.......and I vaguely remembered them. I was only 8 in 1985.
Season 1 is available on DVD. I choose some screen clips to entice you guys into watching some:

Yeah, I have only watched a few episodes, but it's because of Tepperman that I did. I somehow missed this show when it aired originally. I have them and plan to watch 'em, but just haven't taken the time yet.

Amazing Stories Trivia:
Steven Spielberg created and produced "Amazing Stories". He even wrote the scripts for episode #5, "The Mission" and episode #25, "The Wedding Ring".
The series title, "Amazing Stories" came from the name of the predominant sci-fi magazine of the 1940s and 1950s that Steven Spielberg read as a child!
Amazing Stories had some pretty good competition for an audience when it first came on the air. "MacGyver" was on ABC in the same time slot and "Murder She Wrote" was on CBS!
Amazing Stories was a critical success. It garnered 12 Emmy nominations and won five of them. It wasn't a success with audiences though. It was "pure" science fiction and didn't depend on special effects, killing, or horror. Many of the scripts were great but a large enough percentage of the audience wanted those other things mentioned so Amazing Stories only survived its initial two year contract.

i usually check netflix to add things in my queue and it's always nice to find that i can watch it instantly, rather than buy it.. especially if i have never watched it before. i don't mind watching things on the computer because my husband has a samsung tv monitor connected to my laptop, sitting nicely on my desk. valley, it depends on which package you sign up for...you can choose to have one to several movies out at one time. i believe the single movie package is around 9 dollars a month? not sure. but regardless, you get to enjoy the "instant watch" feature, and there are also a ton of tv shows (entire seasons) that they let you stream as well.
when i want to watch netflix in my room, i add the show or movie to my instant watch queue from the den and use our PS3 to watch, which is hooked up in the bedroom.

I only signed up for Netflix maybe a month ago....unfortunatly I don't have a Wii or PS3 to set it up on my tv.....but stuff plays really good quality on my computer. I only pay $13.99 for two dvd movies plus unlitmited instant watch. I'm loving it! and have watched so much stuff so far....my queue is so full of movies I can't catch up and I just keep adding

Valley, you are going to love the Instant Watch feature of Netflix. It's like a gigantic version of cable On Demand for a much, much cheaper price (I have the $8.99/month subscription). Make sure you request the instant streaming disc for the Wii on Netflix if you haven't already done that.

i started watching Amazing Stories. i got to episode #4..the mummy one. i loved the 2nd story, the one with the meteor and the magnet dude lol. he had some snazzy sneakers. i know that style has definitely come back!

Watched the first two episodes yesterday. I was surprised that the episodes are so short, only 25 mins each.
Anyway, Ghost Train was so-so sentimental Spielberg stuff. Nothing special plotwise but nicely done.
The Main Attraction hit the jackpot! Awesome episode, lots of laughs and a cool cast. Pure 80s teen magic!
I´m going to check out more eps later.

I watched episodes 3 and 4 yesterday.
Alamo Jobe had an interesting time warp story and starred Kelly "The Black Stallion" Reno. He only acted in three movies plus this Amazing Stories episode and after you read his bio, you know the reason why.
Mummy Daddy was a very funny episode with a strong cast. Tom Harrison was great as the Mummy, you really care what´s going to happen to him. And you haven´t even seen the real guy under the mummy costume
Supporting actors like Bronson Pinchot, Brion James and Tracey Walter always deliver. Walter´s character had a cool trailer with movie posters on the wall.

It was a cool Spielberg penned war story with an all-star cast. Starring Kevin Costner, Casey Siemaszko, Kiefer Sutherland and some other familiar faces. The lovely Karen Kopins also has some screentime.
This was a longer (45 minutes) episode. Poor little Casey is in trouble again

Watched episodes 6-8 yesterday.
"The Amazing Falsworth" with Gregory Hines and Richard Masur.
A serial killer story, the two on screen murders must have been pretty shocking back in the day. Decent acting, yammy Kiss Kiss -bar neon lights, "it´s all in the hands".
"Fine Tuning"
Great to see Matthew Laborteaux and Gary Riley. The beginning was good but it turned out to be a very silly episode. Stupid aliens
"Mr. Magic"
Old magician who has lost his act gets one final chance to be hip and cool. Nice little story starring Sid Caesar and Leo Rossi.

"Guilt Trip"
Guilt takes a vacation, meets Love and they fall in love. Directed by Burt Reynolds and starring funny guys Dom DeLuise and Charles Durning and lovely Loni Anderson. Nice little idea but wasn´t that special after all.
"Remote Control Man"
Now this was a crazy story. Directed by Bob "Porky´s" Clark and Starring Sydney Lassick, Nancy Parsons, Jeff Cohen, Dirk Benedict, Gary Coleman and other 80s tv-stars. Even KITT crashes in! Surprisingly wicked stuff!

Episodes 11 & 12.
"Santa ´85" was a fun little christmas story. Douglas Seale was a great Santa and Pat Hingle as a town sheriff never fails. This was directed by Phil "Three O'Clock High" Joanou.
"Vanessa in the Garden" looked like a period drama. It had an interesting cast (Keitel, Locke & Bridges) and was directed by Clint Eastwood but i felt a little disappointed.
So, the x-mas tale won this pair.

"The Sitter" was a fun babysitter story. Young Seth Green with a Madonna t-shirt and Suzanne Snyder! Love it!
"No Day at the Beach" This was a touching little war story filmed in b/w. It featured a cool cast including Charlie Sheen, Philip McKeon, Ralph Seymour, Tom Hodges...

Ok.. I'm finally in a groove watching "Amazing Stories" .. not quite what I remember them to be.. but totally digging them again. Plus, getting to see some of our fav 80's actors in different roles is a blast .. and of course.. the fact that the setting of the 'now' is 1985 makes it fun too.

This is the episode that I remembered the most from watching "Amazing Stories" .. while this episode has a 'Cool World' twist .. it is still brilliant with a stellar cast! The movie "Memphis Belle" captures the same feel and you wonder if the director watched this episode as a mood reference.

"One for the Road"
"In 1934, a couple of South Bronx barflies try to kill drunk Mike Malloy for his insurance money and find they're tangling with much more than they bargained for."
A decent story what greed does to a man. Starring James Cromwell, Geoffrey Lewis, Joe Pantoliano, Al Ruscio and Douglas Seale. Left me a bit thirsty though
"Gather Ye Acorns"
Starring Mark Hamill and David Rappaport. Interesting story and you´ll like it more if you are a collector like me. It was nice to see Forest Whitaker in a supporting role.
"Boo!"
This was a fun episode starring Robert Picardo, Wendy Schaal, Bruce Davison and Andrea Marcovicci. Just saw Marcovicci also in "The Hand". Co-starring Eddie Bracken and Evelyn Keyes as "the ghosts"
Picardo, very funny and sleazy and like Muffy said earlier, Schaal was beautiful. I would love to get all her Sheena flicks, loved the posters
"Dorothy and Ben"
This was pure over sentimental Spielberg and i wasn´t in the mood. Starring Joe Seneca, Lane Smith, Joe Regalbuto, Kathleen Lloyd and Natalie Gregory. If you enjoy watching hospital miracle recoveries this might be for you.

Two very good short stories!
"Mirror, mirror"
Very good, chilling episode directed by Martin Scorsese. Sam Waterston is great as a rich horror novelist. His life turns to nightmare when a phantom which only he can see in the mirror, starts to haunt him. Scary stuff! Damn, Helen Shaver looks good in this one
"Secret Cinema"
This was a very funny episode written and directed by Paul Bartel. It´s like The Truman Show 0.1. Penny Peyser looks stunning in the leading role and it was awesome to see Griffin Dunne too. The other stars are Paul Bartel himself and Mary Woronov.

"Hell Toupee"
A very silly episode directed by Irvin Kershner. Starring Tony Kienitz and Cindy Morgan. This was average stuff, Morgan looked great though.
"The Doll"
This was a nice and heartwarming little story directed by Phil Joanou. John Lithgow was great and the doll looked so real i thought it must start to talk soon

"Grandpa's Ghost"
The season ends with a sentimental story written and directed by Timothy Hutton. It was nice to see Andrew McCarthy but this wasn´t that great after all.

They released 8 Amazing Stories compilation VHS tapes back in the day here in Finland. The tapes had both 1st and 2nd season episodes.

I finally finished "Muffy's Amazing Stories" recently .. wait that wasn't the title on the dvd box.. oops different Muffy Stories.
aTomiK mentioned it above, but my favorite segment was "Mirror, mirror" with an amazingly young looking Sam Waterson. It is creepy cool and just so good! Also, though you never see his face, I always thought it was neat that Tim Robbins played the phantom.

Of course, "The Mission" was also excellent with an outstanding cast!
And I can't explain it totally, but "The Main Attraction" is just so wacky and charming! Maybe it is the fact that Bill Allen in all his 'RADness' is in it.

-The episode set during WW II when the plane's landing gear wouldn't work - so, the plane's gunner (stuck in the gun turret underneath the plane) drew cartoon landing gear that became real...very cool.
-The episode starring Mark Hammill (Luke Skywalker from Star Wars) as an old man who collects antiques/junk.

The series was a disappointment not because of the quality but thanks to such a short lived run. If I could ask Spielberg one question it would be asking why it didn't go on longer. The 80's for me can be best described with two series: Amazing Stories and Highway To heaven.

Amazing Stories S1-S2 are on DVD. I've seen S1, but not S2 - yet.

I'm gonna try and finish up Season 2.....gotta admit a few of Season 2 are actually not as good....Moving Day with Stephen Jeffreys is a cool idea but sorta boring.
