Recently, I watched both these films again. And it's fairly obvious that both films are very similar in nature. Both films are psychedelic classic rock operas primarily driven and based off of classic albums by two of the most popular British Rock bands of all time, (The Who & Pink Floyd). So I'm guessing whichever film you prefer is highly derivative on which band you like better. Personally, I enjoy both bands greatly. So I'm very torn between them. Both films have an incredible soundtrack and both have their share of memorable scenes.
At this point, I'm leaning a little more towards choosing TOMMY as my pick just because it has a bit more of an actual plot. And not to mention all the great cameos of actors and other musicians throughout.
But judging just from the music soundtracks alone, I'd have to side with THE WALL being the better of the two on that one.
So how about all of you? Which film do you like better? What are some of your other favorite Rock Operas?

Leaning towards Tommy, for as noted better talent, songs, and plotline.
Although not directly based off an album, we should probably consider Phantom of the Paradise as a strong candidate in the best rock opera catagory, as it also has a strong story backed with good performances.

As i mentioned before, The Who is my all-time favorite band. When it comes to the original albums, i would pick Tommy without a doubt. However, i have never been too crazy about the Tommy soundtrack album. The film-adaptation Tommy also has all of Ken Russel's trademark flamboyism dripping from practically every scene. Roger Daltrey is good though as the title character.
Although flawed, i still would pick Tommy though. I just never thought The Wall was that great anyway. Posted by gordongecko (Member # 4685) on :
I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan, and I've never seen Tommy, so I really can't be objective. Even if I had seen Tommy, I think my heart would vote for The Wall.
The Wall is not even a top 3, maybe even 4 album in my Pink Floyd favorites. The movie is out there and really, I enjoy the music much more than the film.
