i think there should be a post just to discuss this field of movies.
it would also be neat to get into the spirt of things like joe bob brigg's monstervision and pick out whatever random horror movie watch it and discuss with everyone, much like the review movie night. although it will be less formal, anybody suggest a movie of this field, mainstream or not, doesnt matter as long as it is a horror film, from any decade and we can discuss it
i recently have watched scarecrows (1988) and thought it to be weak. sure some of the scarecrows were kinda spooky, there was some suspense but i really dont like loose ends and the story did not sum up enough for me, things seemed to be left up in the air.
Let me know what you think, and make a few nominations for the next movie discussion, it doesnt matter if the movie is terrible either, in fact, it makes it more fun to talk about when it is terrible but i am more than happy to discuss the good ones too.

You know I was talking about doing somthing like this myself once.
I think it is a great Idea, and I'd be happy to do it.
Scarecrows, I remember watching before and thinking that some movies are done on a low budget and seem more like a big budget movie, then agian some reflect their budget. I think Scarecrows was the latter. The characters were all just obsticals, thier was no depth to them. The concept was eeire and dark which could have made for a good story but they kind of fumbled the ball on this one.
I got one for you why does it seem that Friday the 13th pt. three is a little different that parts 1,2, and 4? I really like the film, but somthing seems to stray from the others, and I can't quite put my finger on it. Also there is a few bad performances in this one, but most of the cast is good.

I would love if this idea were to happen!! As for "Friday the 13th Part 3", I really like it too. I think what made it a little different to me was the opening. I loved that funky music when the titles were shooting out of the screen in 3-D. And I really think Steve Miner wanted the actors to overact a little too campy. The heavy kid that kept playing tricks I was glad when he finally got killed!
Posted by The Good Package (Member # 9492) on :
i thought richard brooker did the best performance as jason, and this one i thought had the best group of kids, good special effects work, some of the acting was a little off, but on the whole my favorite friday.

I just watched the movie Dolls 1987, and was surpirised by it. I thought that it might be like Puppetmaster, and be a bit cheesy. However I was glad to find that though the writing and characters seemed a bit corny and cliche, the actors did an exceptional job of potraying them most notably Stephen Lee who played the part of Ralph. It was a good movie.
Posted by Crash (Member # 7484) on :
Jack, it took me a long time to catch up with Stuart Gordon's "Dolls," and when I finally did, I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, the characters and situations are cliche, but I was completely entertained by the whole thing. It's kind of like Gordon and company decided to do a little movie experiment to see what they could accomplish with a small cast on just a few interior sets. They succeeded very well in an neat, old-school way. The acting is good, the dolls are terrific, and the whole enterprise is fun. It's one of the coolest "possessed dolls" movies around.
Posted by Jack Gannon (Member # 9144) on :
Yeah, I thought to begin with that they were not showing the dolls in action because they figured it would look cheesy, however It soon became clear to me that they were just putting their feet in the water before jumping in. As the dolls moved toward the end I was agian pleasantly surprised to find that they not only kept the creepyness, but took it to the next level.
Posted by The Good Package (Member # 9492) on :
i have also watched dolls, and pretty much agree with you guys. its not hard for dolls of that kind to be creepy, in my opinion
any suggestions for the next one

Posted by Valley (Member # 1322) on :
Ha Veronica.. all because of the "Summer School" movie chat! awesome

Posted by Veronica Sawyer (Member # 2221) on :

Posted by The Good Package (Member # 9492) on :
i could go for chainsaw, atomik if you have netflix instant watch, the keep is available on there.
i have not seen chainsaw 3: leatherface yet, if it is on NF i will go for it.
so we got THE KEEP and CHAINSAW so far
Posted by Jack Gannon (Member # 9144) on :
Didn't really like Next Generation, but really liked Texas Chainsaw II "Bring it all down!"
From what I've seen of The Keep so far, I like it.
Then agian how can Mann go wrong in the eighties?
Posted by Jack Gannon (Member # 9144) on :
Don't know why but I've been itching to watch Night of the Comet, Night of the Creeps, Day of the Dead, Hallween I and III, and Chainsaw II agian.
I would also like to watch Chopping Mall which I've still never seen.
Posted by Jack Gannon (Member # 9144) on :
I've watched Friday the 13th 1-4 I don't know how many times lately and it's not gotten old yet.
I remember liking Nightmare on Elm St. series better when I was a kid. But now I'm more into Friday "I can't explain zat. Can you explain zat?"
Posted by The Good Package (Member # 9492) on :

He did. I think that "The Keep" is a slow, stodgy, boring film. OK, it looks good--you'd expect that from Mann--but it's easily his worst film.

I know I throw this around the boards too much but:
An American Werewolf in London - 1981
The first horror movie I saw. My favourite horror movie and made in they year of my birth. My family lived about less than 1 kilometre from Nurse Alex Price's flat. I went back last year from OZ to have a scout around.
Posted by Crash (Member # 7484) on :
That's awesome. Too bad the flat didn't come equipped with Jenny Agutter in a nurse's uniform.
Posted by Bernie_Lomax (Member # 8571) on :
Well, I think I would still be in the shower with her if it did.
Posted by Jack Gannon (Member # 9144) on :
Just finished the Keep, man did that come apart fast in the middle. Crash you were right. I hate it when movies are going good, then suddenly spiral out of control.
Jenny Agutter in a Nurse Outfit, that image can bring a man back from the dead. She is smoking! My generation can keep it's Lady Gagas, Brittany Spears and Paris Hiltons. Give me women like Jenny Agutter, Jobeth Williams (Polterqeist), Elizebeth Perkins, Loranie Broco, Ellen Barkin, Cathy Moriarty, Mary Stuart Masterson... oh I ramble. Sorry lost my train of thought there.

motel hell is coming on in the near future on the mgm channel. im gonna watch that one as well as orginal chainsaw
should be a interesting comparison
how come there are hardly any women around these days that have that similar look like agutter and those you mentioned.
if anybody knows a place where you can find women, like those in the first four friday the 13th movies, let me know
Posted by Jack Gannon (Member # 9144) on :
My opinion is this, about women before and women now.
The women around now could still look like ones from the past. But there is a great desire for women to be the same as every other girl rather than sticking out. So you have alot of women doing thier hair the same, and dressing the same. And acting the same, rather than talking normaly and having a personality you have a lot of girls who are making fools of themselves so they can be more likable.
Fitness where women have always tried to stay in shape, back then women would shoot for a certain body type a small amount of fat but with no jiggly parts, where as today they are skinny & beyond. I won't lie to you, fake breasts do not put me off, but women today are more obsessed with surgery they don't need. Where as back then women were more natural.
I'll tell you the real problem, women are only cattering to yuppie A holes who wouldn't know a real women from a box of frosted flakes. You know these types of guy, they are the same ones you see in movies today, trying to act like they are delta house when they are clearly a Greg Marmalard in Bluto clothing. These knucleheads convince hot girls they need to be skinnier and that small details like their boobs are uneven is a major turnoff. These are not real men! Uneven boobs are great! Women if you are out there, and you hear me. Don't go for superficial Chowderheads, be unique, imperfections are somtimes more sexy.

if your interested try to watch motel hell and the orginal texas chainsaw massacre by next friday, that will be the first review night.
Posted by Jack Gannon (Member # 9144) on :
Sure, Never seen Motel Hell before. But it is suppose to be on televison somtime.
Posted by Jack Gannon (Member # 9144) on :
Well I watched Motel Hell, I thought it was alright. A lot of good jokes, "My hole life has been a lie, in my meat I've been using.... Preservatives" Rory Calhoun and Ballbricker were both good. Still the movie lacked a an energy until the end.
Posted by Crash (Member # 7484) on :
Motel Hell is OK. I remember when I first saw it in the theatre, I really hated it, but over time, I've come to think that it's not bad. And that line is terrific...
Posted by The Good Package (Member # 9492) on :
i thought the motel hell was decent, couldnt help to laugh at all of ratzenberger's scenes and the irony of his vocal chords being cut after watching many episodes of cheers. still as normal on the surface as the two antagonists were they're real craziness still was no match for the chainsaw clan. i did really enjoy the chainsaw duel and the wolfman jack cameo was funny. nancy parsons did a good job as a ghoulish igor like sidekick. not a scary movie, not scary in the sense of being afraid to take the wrong road like in chaisaw, this one is more like a dark comedy, if thought of as such, you would get a few laughs
Posted by The Good Package (Member # 9492) on :
any suggestions for the next one?
Posted by xchazx (Member # 7158) on :
i was always a fan of the gorier, more comedic movies of the 80's, though i love the slew of early 80's horror movies that came out after friday 13th blew up(terror train, blood beach, my bloody valentine etc..)
i recommend: re-animator redneck zombies basket case I/II phantasm II brain damage hellraiser II evil dead I/II night of the demons
Posted by The Good Package (Member # 9492) on :
ok next friday we will discuss hellraiser parts 1 and 2 so anybody interested in getting in on the chat please make arrangements to watch these by that time. good suggestion xcha!
Posted by Ronnie (Member # 465) on :
more people keep mentioning Re-Animator.. it totally has me wanting to see it soon.
Motley just sent me a note saying John Carpenter's The Ward comes out next week! i've been waiting to see this one.
and i saw Texas Chainsaw Massacre II was mentioned in here, i actually like that one a lot!
one series that i need to see is the Hellraiser series. i haven't seen the first one in so long, i barely remember anything and i definitely don't remember the sequels.
Posted by Pyro (Member # 7658) on :
Motel Hell was just funny to me for some reason..I definitely am still a fan of the Hellraiser movies though. Well, the first 2 at least.
Posted by The Good Package (Member # 9492) on :
hellraiser one and two, good films, unique horror film that is alot different from its peers and contemporary movies as well, personally i found the vagrant to be the scariest character. i like dr chenard on the second, i thought pinhead seemed a bit irrelavant in the sequel, frank and julia were great in both, i liked the special effects in these as well, i thought andrew robinson did a good job as well but he really took off when he started playing frank, which makes me think they should have went with him as frank from the begining, at points its difficult to tell if the cenobytes are out and out bad guys looking to give everyone a hard time or just torturers of the wicked on a mission of justice, if they are truly evil then why not go after the catatonic girl?
anyone else find the hospital in the second to be a creepy place as well?
Posted by The Good Package (Member # 9492) on :
so what is the next movie?
Posted by fjordimere (Member # 10024) on :
I watched the Lost Boys not too long ago and I've just bought it.
The Lost Boys is pretty much the only vampire movie that i've enjoyed. But I'm not sure wheter I should watch the sequels
Posted by Lovers with Cassie (Member # 7794) on :

Howling 3: The Marsupials.

were-koala bears
Posted by Bernie_Lomax (Member # 8571) on :
I hope you're joking dude..It wouldn't really be scary would it
Posted by The Good Package (Member # 9492) on :
instead of transforming into a scary beast, its a transformation into something cute and cuddly
the kids will love it, we'll slap it on some lunch boxes and sell a million!
