ok, i have an idea for a valentine's day gift for my husband. i recently mentioned that he is a big fan of prince, well i found a box of his, with cd inserts (covers art) from all the original prince cds that were ever released.
my husband transferred all his music to cd cases and threw out all of the covers, except the prince ones. haha, i guess he still wanted to have them.
we moved over the holidays and when i came across the box, i thought of maybe making one big collage with them and frame it? my hubby has an art room with collectibles and stuff and i am sure he would love something like this.
i am not a crafty person at all, and was wondering if you can help tell me the best way to put them together, i don't want to completely ruin them with glue or anything. and if i go have it done, i am sure it will cost a lot.
i know muffy is pretty artsy, is there anything you can recommend?
i would appreciate some feedback and am open to any other suggestions as well?

Ronnie, here is a suggestion: go to a craft store like JoAnn's or Michaels, and get those little pieces of two sided tape for scrapbooking. They come in a little box and should be in the scrapbooking area. That is what I use with little arty projects. Not sure if that is what you need, but you may want to check it out. Hope that helped a little.

I like to think i'm pretty artsy haha
What a sweet idea Ronnie!
So yeah if you went and got it done that's the thing it'd be expensive......how many are there? Do the sleeves have awesome pictures in them too?
Does he have more a collector mind? keeping them totally intact?
I actually found this cool New Wave album covers book real cheap and I bought two..cut up one...painted frames I bought at Goodwill cool colors and framed them.....i've actually switched them out and plan to make more. Goodwill is a great place for frames inexpensive....most of the time there are new ones and you just pop out the bad art.
But let me get my wheels turning on this one....I haven't had coffee yet.

I'm searching and you need to look at these for the pure silliness and coolness of them:
What about lots of little frames painted different tones of purple, black and grey....then offset on the wall? you wouldn't have to wreck the covers? I've never scrap booked but I like Pitts idea will have to look into that

Ronnie, I would buy a big enough frame, a nice piece of paper stock or poster board to fit inside and a package of those little corner things that people use in some scrapbooks or photo albums.
You stick those little corners to the paper & then slip the cd covers into the four corners and it will hold them in place without any glue or sticky stuff ruining the artwork.
You can get a bag of these little self adhesive corners at Michael's or AC Moore for a few dollars and they come in black and I believe tan. I think it would look great!! Just my two cents. Show us the finished product when you're done!! Good luck !!

Nice gesture Ronnie. Shadow boxes are sometimes a neat way to display art work. You can pin the corners (not through the picture), but just enough so that the head of the pins gently hold the corners down. Sometimes nice to add other items, ie a vintage Prince concert ticket, say from, Purple Rain...if you haven't seen Prince in concert, you can buy them online fairly inexpensively....not as cool as if you actually personally own one, but still neat nonetheless. I'd reccommend picking one or two of his favs, versus trying to stick them all in together.
Also, if there is a small side table in the room, lay the covers out in a scattered fashion, making sure you can see parts of all, then have a custom piece of glass made for the table top, with bevelled edges...fairly inexpensive at a glass shop...there are fasteners to hold the glass in place....pics are preserved and untouched...scanning the pics and re-printing them in black and white can be nice too.
That's all I got....

I have a couple of other ideas.
You could dress up like Vanity or Apollonia and take some pics for him. The good kind of pics.
You could make Valentine's Day more about you and start celebrating March 14th for him.
I'm just brainstorming here!

OMG SA! I knew March 14th haha
I really like Cindy's idea and Kev's. A way to preserve and not cut up the covers. There is a cool bar here that made their tables with old pinup photos and sizzle sticks and shellacked them in the top....they came out really cool!
I'm a girl and this may surprise many....I think Valentines Day is stupid! It's such a forced and unnatural holiday.....when you care about someone it's the little things that matter. Like what Ronnie is doing is sweet.....she wants to do something for him.(woman need to do this...haha it's in our dna)
Too many men feel forced to go all out and half the time really don't want too....flowers,chocolates (generic!)and pay double for them! It's the little everyday things......heck i'm impressed when a door gets opened for me...haha isn't March 14th everyday?.........come on!

Ronnie.. Cindy's idea about the 4 corners to preserve the artwork is excellent.
Okay change that.. I think you should totally go with Secret Admirer's idea of dressing up as Vanity. Wait.. you did that last year.. scratch that.
Muffy.. what time does the screening of "My Bloody Valentine" start at your house?
How about this pic to use for ideas..

SA!! lol ay que la...!! i knew someone would go there...hehe, valley is right, that vanity/apollonia idea is so last year...
hey all, thanks so much for the feedback. this gives me plenty of ideas to move forward with. i appreciate the responses.
muffy - i am not much of a valentine's day person either. i don't care to have money spent on me with flowers, candy, and stuffed animals. i don't even expect gifts on v-day. when i saw the box, i tried to come up with an idea. and i thought giving it to him on v-day would be great, since it's coming up and gives me time to do it!

Ronnie we want pictures when your done!
My dislike of Valentines day dates back to elementary school and passing out Valentines....it was stressful and a popularity contest...lol ok ok I need to get out my copy of My Bloody Valentine don't I Valley? it's a split disc with April's Fools Day!
Oh yeah in first grade my teacher gave me this huge chocolate heart from a secret admirer.....I think it's because days earlier he'd grabbed me by my ear and made me cry because I was goofing off.......it sorta was weird? I'll have to ask my mom about that details on that one? bad memories!

I wish I was creative enough to think of an idea! I did see a while ago, I hope you have them over there... a clear perspex cube that you can insert photos or CD art into each side. It will take 6 CD arts of course, and it makes a great coffee table piece, or even hang it from a piece of fishing line.

With you 100%! Just another time for some people to be reminded what they didn't have!

You had a secret admirer! How is that a bad memory? Wait... are you saying it was from your teacher?!
Ronnie; you could try phoning somewhere that frames things to see what it's might cost to have them all put together in one big frame? Mind you... you probably thought of that yourself
