Happy Mardi Gras everyone. Tonight is the Sydney GLBT Mardi Gras, now in its 32nd year I think.
Led this year by transexual Amanda Lepore, it's featuring a brilliant float of Osama Bin Laden "coming out and putting the FUN back into fundamentalism"!
And the irony - the gay police float, immediately followed by the "Legalise Marijuana float"!
The float that makes me most proud is the PFLAG float - the parents of gay and lesbian children. It's wonderful to see parents showing such amazing support for their offspring, when society often tells them they should be ashamed. Thank jeebus times are changing. I know my folks aren't fully supportive - my mum is OK with it but doesn't go around advertising the fact, and she's asked me not to tell my Dad, even the he sees my boyfriend Sean all the time as we both visit every couple of week. I know my Mum was awesome when I told her nearly two years ago, I was more upset than she was and she had to comfort me!
I wish I could be in Sydney to see it first hand, hopefully one year I'll get there.
