I was writing about these new video games in the Guitar thread, and I was thinking about how easy these new games are for kids to beat.
I was saying to my son this morning...don't they make games anymore...like Wheel of Fortune, or Scrabble, or other Word Games...that you want to play again and again, and that you actually learn stuff from them.
I use to love board games....but I always liked to do Crosswords puzzles, and word searches, and I always liked to play solitaire and war and other card games...I never get sick of those things. Now, you pay $80 for a video game, that your kid can beat it in 2 days...and then never want to play it again. That's insane. The amounts of money spent on video games is out of control.
If they are going to make games...can't they make things that are educational, and ones that you want to play more than once.
My son reads a gaming magazine ...and he was telling me about games they make that are so sick and twisted and weird...and I don't understand how anyone would find that fun.

I hear ya, still trying to figure out the Rubik's cube though. 25 years and trying! LoL.
Actually, I tend to get a bunch of video games and play them at selective times so I don't get bored with them. Gone are the days I used to spend months on just one game. I tend to like sports games like car racing, hockey even luge.
I bought one of those plug and play retro ataris a few years ago which I get a lot of good use out of. Still tickled pink that this time around I don't have to fret about dumping quarters into the machine when I lose.

Isis, if you like board games you should try Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader. It's not as easy as what one would think.

Shouldn't kids be getting more physical activity than staying in playing games all the time? I personally have no problems with kids and adults enjoying games but at the same time physical activity never hurts either. At least with the Wii you get that........

The manufacturers of those new video games have to make something to appeal to even the lowest level. Then when the kids get done with the game, they are screaming that they want a new game, and their parents will spend more money to meet the kids' demands so they will shut up.

Oh how I wish kids got more physical activity. Teaching PE, I see kids of all different activity levels, but so many of them sit on the couch and play their video games, that they have really poor skills. Even throwing and catching is hard for a lot of them, and when I ask them if they play any kind of ball or anything at home, most of them just look at me like I'm stupid. There are some who go outside and ride bikes or shoot hoops, but they're becoming few and far between.

We were playing the Wii tonight....someone let the girl who's living with us right now...borrow this Outdoor sports thing, it has a big pad that you stand on. You play things like...Kayaking, a Bean Bag Toss, Horseshoes, and the one I liked was you jump on moles that pop up from a hole in the ground-that was awesome. We were having fun.
The Wii is very cool. Tonight we were at Gamespot and I had been talking about this whole video game thing all day today....and I saw at the store that there is a Wii "Family Game Night" game (I think that's what it is called)...it had Boggle on it, and Scrabble and other games. I couldn't believe it. I think I might have to get me that.

If you have a wii and you like board games then you must get Mario Party 8. It combines the fun of a board game with frantic mini games and is great fun for the family.
