Did you guys go out on Black Friday? Did you see all the crazy stuff happening. The man that was trampled to death at Wal-Mart. I saw the film footage from the survellience cameras...it was awful. Then there were 2 people that shot and killed each other at a Toys R Us.
Locally...on Saturday night 3 teenagers were killed 3 miles from my house. 2 boys and a girl. I knew the girl's mother. They had been in a group, spotting deer...the boy had just bought a brand new truck. There had been another girl in the truck with them, but they pulled over to let her jump up in a different truck in front of them, and then they took off, and the truck that wrecked was flying to catch up with them, he was doing about 100 mph. They hit the guard rails...it was a mess, they were all ejected from the vehicle. Nobody was wearing a seat belt. It was very sad. The funeral service was tonight.
Today my husband heard on the radio that a police officer, stopped at a traffic light...in the town my brother-in-law lives at, and he blew his head off. How bad is it getting?
Gosh.
The only place we went on Black Friday was to Gamestop to get a game for my son, and I told him to go down to a pizza place and wait for me...while I did some more shopping...The guys that work there are all really nice to us, the one guy took my son's Christmas list I was holding in my hand, and he said he'd help me fill it. They all said to my son to bring them some food back from the pizza place. They were all goofing. So, we took them down a large pepperoni pizza...they were so happy. I always feel like you have to do stuff like that...it is contagious...when you do something nice.
My son took it in by himself, while I waited in my car, and he came out of the store just grinning away because he felt so god about doing that.
Did anyone else have any crazy Black Friday problems?

I was thinking of doing some shopping and then my sense of reason took over. A good choice because I ended up going to play roller hockey. Can't have much more fun than that.

My mom woke me up at O dark thirty and made me go with her. It was crazy. I have never seen adult women act like that before. I cant deny the great deals I made though. I don't think I ever want to do that again.

Oh yes I went black Friday shopping. I was lucky; we didn't run into any trouble. I got some good deals at Best Buy. I had really good deals at Kohl's ($75 Ralph Lauren pants for $16) but there was no way I was going to stand in either of the two lines.

I went once with my mom, about 4 years ago....I thought nobody will be out there at 4am...I figured nobody really got up that early....I don't remember getting anything great.
I said I'd never do it again.
I just can't believe that someone was killed over something someone felt they HAD to have at Wal-Mart. Going Christmas shopping should NEVER be a matter of life and death, over STUFF. I just think of that man who was killed, that's the only life he got, and it is over because people are greedy.

Granted the people that trampled him are partly at fault but I feel the bottom line still should fall on Wal-Mart's shoulders. It's their responsibility to assure that their employees and customers will be safe while in their store or on their property. The store wasn't equipped to handle a mad rush of 2000 people so they should have done everything in their power to see that everybody would be safe.

I agree with that....I don't think stores should create mass hysteria with having this one day event sale thing....with the economy the way that it is right now, everyone is going nuts...and more stuff like that is going to continue to happen.

Trust me they'll never stop their Black friday sales it's way too profitable for them. What I think should happen is Wal-Mart will settle this out of court to avoid a media circus(the guys family has already sued them) and set his family up for life. In the grand scheme of things it will be a drop in the bucket for Wal-Mart considering how much the company is worth. Then next year instead of having a mad rush on Black friday they'll install some kind of lottery system just like a lot of places do for concert tickets or the release of new video games. That way it won't be a first come first serve basis.

Back when I used to work for Coca-Cola and had the local Wal-Mart on my route, I loved to sit in the backroom and watch them cut the tape at 5am for people to get their paws on stuff: unbelievable! I equate it to the Running of the Bulls in Spain combined with pro wrestling except the bulls and wrestlers actually have some sense. Wal-Mart should be held accountable for the trampling incident regardless.....

Each one of those people that stepped on that poor man knew what they were doing. You know when you step on a person for Gods sake! It's a damned shame that our society has sunk so low...

Yeah...that's what I said...we were talking about it tonight, and my mom and I said...they should have locked everyone inside the Wal-Mart. They should never have been allowed to leave....they ripped the door off the hinges...
How can someone go home after something like that, and say "look at the great deal I got on these blue jeans....I trampled a man to death to get them...but I deserve it". How can people sleep at night.

Locking a thousand people in a store for the actions of several hundred people would have made it ten times worse and probably more people injured as a result.......

I worked from 1-5 on Black Friday, but the station filmed live from the area mall, so you can say I did experience it.

I hate crowds. I mean I absolutely hate crowds. The older I get the more it's developing into something of a phobia. I deal with it for concerts and sporting events, but for things where it can be helped, like movies and shopping, I opt out. So I never go to any of the Black Friday sales. The deals just aren't worth the time and headaches involved. I'd rather just pay the extra 20-30% and stay relaxed. Besides, a lot of the same deals are available on the stores' websites too.

Didn't the customers rip the doors right off the hinges? And then trample other workers, and, later, emergency personnel that attempted to help him? That doesn't sound to me like something Wal-Mart should have anticipated.

It's still Wal Marts responsibility to make sure that their employees and customers will be safe while on their premises. If that means extra security so be it.

Journey-I am like that too, to some degree. It is because I can't stand most people, my mom and I talked about it yesterday...how people have become so rude. After Christmas is over....I am going to start working on our Easter Egg Hunt that we do for our community. I did it last year...and there was over 500 people there...it was crazy. It was because we gave out over $2,000 in prizes. I never expected it to be that nuts. But, it actually went ok. We had people line up behind a ribbon, to get ready. Someone ripped the ribbon, and the kids that were 5 and under took off....and people were still registering for it, and then they started getting mad, and I told them to go over to the 5 and over group....but once the adrenaline starts flowing in people...you can't stop it.
So, this next year...I know that the word got out about it...I am having it at the airport...where it is a way bigger area, and can be more controlled....but I do worry about people pushing little kids down, and shoving. People are so greedy. They ruin everything for eveyone else too, because people are so self absorbed.
My one friend said about this incident at Wal-Mart-well some people really need to save money because the economy is so bad, and that saving money is a big deal to them. I thought WHAT? They didn't walk in that store naked...so for them to save $10 on a pair of jeans- was not a life or death situation for anyone who was there. What could they possibly have needed at Wal-Mart that cost a person his life. It is pure Greed and no compassion for anyone.

that's what i heard too, sam. even the police stated that the business did not have the proper security to control a crowd of 2,000 people.
walmart definitely should take responsibility for what happened. it was a combination of that and the nutty people forced themselves into the store. unfortunately, the people who stomped on the poor guy may not even be charged.
it's tragic.
