So I read somewhere that this is what Spielberg is calling this kid. That he's the every day guy for a new generation and is gonna be as big as Tom Hanks.. I personally like the guy. Loved Disturbia, liked Transformers and he was ok in Indy 4.
Any thoughts from the rewinders???

He is alright I guesse. I think Megan Fox stole the spotlight from him in Transformers!

She sure did!!
Girls so hot my TV almost melted!!

Yeah I'm with you. I can see greatness for him..

Blah no comparison at all to Tom Hanks. Maybe box office sales wise but definitely not talent wise. I don't think he's that great but to each his/her own..

Well that's what its all about my friend, glad to hear from you on it. To be honest I don't think there will ever be another Tom Hanks. He is one in a million for sure and I am a huge fan. But I do like this kid, there's something about him makes me wnna see his movies.. That x factor thing..

I never can see the huge appeal of Shi La Boeuf. I think people keep hiring him cuz they like saying "Shia La Boeuf". If his name was 'Fred Snerd' he'd never work again. But the thing I find funny is this is the new 'insult' with my daughter and he friends "You're Shia La Boeuf!"

Fred Snerd!! I laughed out loud just then.. That's the best name since Joey Joe Joe Junior Shabbadoo..

I don't think there's anything great about Shia Le Boeuf. I don't find him attractive in any way. I always thought Tom Hanks was so cute, back when he did Bossom Buddies, Splash and Bachelor Party. He always seemed like someone I would have known in high school. He was so goofy.
But...so far in anything that I have seen Shia in, he isn't funny or goofy. I thought Indiana Jones and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was awful. It stunk.

Shia's kinda hot, but that's all he has going for him, IMO.
Posted by Mr. Jack Burton (Member # 4673) on :
Guess most of you guys reckon Spielberg's talking out of his butt.. Fair enough!!
Posted by Pittsburghgirl (Member # 7514) on :
That kid is butt @*ing ugly.
Posted by Kash (Member # 297) on :
Shia imitates John Cusack, no doubt about it. He's OK, kid had good comic timing in Transformers and Indy 4, not seen any of his others. As far as new young actors go, he's got a good shot simply becasue there aren't that many on the mainstream radar, personally, I'd hedge my bets on James Franco, I really liked his performances in the Spiderman films and he was good in Pineapple Express, not to mention the underrated Tristan & Isidore.

What I want to know is this...how do you go from Even Stevens, a Disney show, to movies like Disturbia and the Transformers??
Posted by Riptide (Member # 457) on :
He's got a way to go with regards to Hanks territory. He's a bad boy to boot, living in the fast lane and getting into accidents. Didn't he lose or almost lose a finger in a collision? He's going to need to calm down if he wants a solid body of work.
Speaking of Hanks, how old do I feel? His son Colin Hanks turned 30 today, and in another coincidence, Hank's 82 movie Mazes and Monsters is playing on the movie channel, which I am watching for the first time.

I think we'll see a lot more from him. He's getting better as he goes. Lets not forget that Tom Hanks started out with Bosom Buddies. Nobody could have guessed how far he would go.

great way of putting it J.
i think he's got potential. it's actually not about his looks anyway. it's kind of dumb to compare him to tom hanks at all, if you think about it. tom has 2 oscars.. has starred in great movies over the last couple of decades. where shia is just starting out after leaving disney movies. time will tell.
Posted by Mr. Jack Burton (Member # 4673) on :
Yes Ronnie but I think the comparison is for Tom when he was Shia's age. As Jd said, if Shia continues as he is, he may bag an oscar or two!!
Posted by Ronnie (Member # 465) on :
maybe, jack. like i said, time will tell.

I like him. I'll be interested to see where his career goes...hopefully he continues to make some good choices. I dislike when someone starts to become popular, then they begin signing up for any ol movie when people first start to offer them some serious money. hopefully he slows down and takes his time. Seems like a good kid...so...best of luck. From a quirky teenager to a potential future "A lister"...I'm surprised that Screech from Saved By The Bell hasn't done well

And on the taking every role thing, lets hope he doesn't do a Cuba Gooding Junior on it..

I never liked EVEN STEVENS and I never found him even remotely attractive. HOWEVER HOLES was pretty good and both TRANSFORMERS and DISTURBIA were entertaining movies (even though DISTURBIA was more of a "kiddie horror movie" than Im used to watching). I've not seen his INDIANA JONES movie yet (I NETFLIXed it this week) but from what I can guess the secret to his success is that he picks projects that can appeal to both kids AND adults, and I think that's a pretty good strategy. I agree with you guys, I hope he doesnt get lazy and start picking lesser projects or get fat-headed and wrongly assume everything he touches will turn to gold. As long as he picks good scripts that have that teenager AND adult appeal he should have a bright future.

I was watching I, Robot last night and saw Shia in it!! He was the very annoying kid on the street talkin thrash to Will Smith.
He was terrible!! Thankfully things hve improved!!

I can't stand Shia La Bouf. I actually think he is a fairly talented comedic actor, but I'm really tired of the weak attempts by Hollywood to try and pass him off as a serious leading man. The scene in the latest Indiana Jones travesty where they introduce Shia with the Marlon Brando Wild Ones homage had to be one of the single most groan-inducing moments in cinematic history. He was really funny on that Disney channel show and would be better served trying to be a comedic lead ala Tom Hanks in the early part of his career. He is not a hearthrob, action hero or dramatic lead - all of which they seem desperate to rush him into. Then again this is the same Hollywood that's trying to foist the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio and Orlando Bloom on me as action heroes.
Posted by Mr. Jack Burton (Member # 4673) on :
I agree with you in the Orlando Bloom and Leo part. I could kick both their asses together and they should stay away from roles requiring them to beat anybody up. The same is true of my favourite actor Johnny Depp. He is too clever to take a job like this because he knows in real life he's not tough.
Shia, Leo and Orlando take note..

Well, I saw Shia in the new INDIANA JONES last night and he failed to win me over. He just doesnt MOVE me.
I wrote a little something about him on my website. DO NOT READ IT IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED! I CURSE LIKE A SAILOR!

That whole page cracked me up!....not just the Shia bit.

I could kick Shia, Leo and Orlando's butts...but WHY would I want to hurt Leo and Orlando? There's some fine lookin' booty right there! Bring it!
Posted by Pittsburghgirl (Member # 7514) on :
Oh, mamamia I just read your blog. I totally agree on the Shia Lebouf thing. I'm going to start saying that like your daughter and her friends when I see or think something is ugly-"you're so Shia LeBouf!". Yeah I wanna know what is the appeal of Jake Gyllenhal. And Tobey Maguire- I know you like him, but he is another tool. You don't know the hell he put the crew through while filming here in Pittsburgh a few years back- he is a jerk, whereas the star of the film, Michael Douglas, was courteous and kind to all of the staff. I just think Tobey is a total dork/geek. I loved Orlando in the LOTR movies. He was smokin'. I saw the Jonas Bros. last week or the week before performing live (was it a half-time show or something like that?)- they were horrible! Off key, and everyone knows they weren't even playing those guitars!

Liked him in Transformers but have to say no,nothing like Tom Hanks what an insult to the man. He is kinda annoying didnt like him in Indiana Jones movie either.

Hollywood is really committed to effeminizing the male action hero. In the '60s & '70s we had John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Lee Marvin, Charles Bronson, Burt Reynolds, James Coburn, Steve McQueen...now we have Jake Gyllenhaal, Toby Maguire, Orlando Bloom, Leonardo DiCaprio, Shia LaBouf and Josh Hartnett. The last few decent guys left - Bruce Willis, Russell Crowe, etc. - are about done, so I guess there won't be any classic action movies to look forward to for quite awhile - at least none where the special effects aren't the real lead.
