I watch it whenever I can, it is one of the only things I watch on TV.
This morning I was watching Guy's Big Bite, with Guy Ferretti.
Sometimes I watch Rachel Ray and Paula Dean.
I like Sandra Lee's "Semi Homemade"-I couldn't find her Halloween special this year...maybe she didn't do it, but I always loved watching that.
There are certain chefs I don't like, I have never liked Emeril.
I like to get ideas from watching the food channel.

My mother loves the Food Network and Paula Deen. When I went to Savannah a couple years ago I had to go in Paula's store (beside her restaurant) and buy her some stuff. I watch the Food Network sometimes. I cannot stand Rachael Ray, though. She grates on my last nerve.

I know the show is a few years old now, but I love the Two Fat Ladies.

What word? Yum-o?
De-lish?
EVOO?
....I used to watch her more than I do now...I actually only ever tried 1 recipe of hers, and that was for Loose Meat Sandwiches...and that was because I always heard Roseanne talking about them...when she bought that place, and then tied it in to her show....I thought it just seemed like ground up hamburger....but it's a little different...it has chicken broth in it, and some seasoning...it might even have some onion in it...they were ok...but most of her stuff...doesn't look so great.
I have tried a couple of Paula Dean's recipes... I made little mini cheeseburger appetizers, and I made sweet potato balls...they were a mashed sweet potato, that you took a large marshmallow and put the sweet potato around and then rolled it in a coconut and cinnamon sugar mixture-they were good.
I watched Paula's sons show once, where they went on the road, and they went to this place that made all kinds of different cheeses, and this place made a chicken noodle soup cheese...which I thought might be really good, I looked everywhere on the internet for it, and could never find it, cause I wanted to order some...I love chicken noodle soup. The cheese had herbs....and dried veggies and dried onion and a chicken flavoring in it..and I thought that sounded good...but I never found it.
The thing I saw Guy Ferretti make this morning looked really good, it looked like it would take all day...it was a chicken dish...he rolled it all up in a homemade tortilla thing...with a dressing on it that looked good.
If there is one thing I love almost as much as the 80s and the holidays , it is good food.

80s rocked, surely you don't mean...
FANTABULOUS????
Argh she drives me crazy with all her little...happy words or whatever you wanna call them. EVOO, sammies, stoup, argh!!!!
Posted by ISIS (Member # 1780) on :
Hahahaha....I think it is so funny...that every time she says EVOO...then she says "Extra Virgin Olive Oil"...it's like if you have to say what it means after you condense it, then what was the point in condensing the word in the first place.

I like his show; he makes good California style food. I hate, hate, hate Rachel Ray. She is a hack; she is the Britney Spears of the cooking world- no talent! But the old ladies and housewives love her for some reason. I also Like Sandra Lee, Paula Deen, The Barefoot Contessa, Ellie Krieger and Emeril. I have tried at least one of each of those chefs' recipes, and have not been disappointed.

I spelled it wrong...but that's who I am talking about.

I like Guy too. I watch his Diners Dives and Drive Inns. Well I think that is what it is called. Anyways it is usually on when I can't sleep at night. I once hear that the food network is like porn when you are hungry. It is so true.
Rachael Ray, to me is a phony.

I like Anthony Bourdain. He's the one who called Rachel Ray out that one time........
I actually like him too, I think he's really funny.
I agree on the Dunkin Donut thing to a degree....
I certainly don't think she needs to make more money and can be a better influence on the choice she makes on who she endorses because celebrities do take on role model responsibilites...because of being influential
But, it is the exact same thing that I have been saying about movies and music and video games, the people making that stuff should think about their impact on the rest of the world, wether it is a negative or positive effect.
And even though it is up to parents to worry about their kids, I have said this before...there's alot of parents out there, who are doing horrendously awful jobs, and they don't care what influences their kids.
So, Rachel Ray isn't as evil to me for liking a donut, as is Marilyn Mansun for the stuff he sticks out there in the world.

Do you guys know Gordan Ramsay?? He's huge over here and in Britain, I was just wondering do you see his show in America? It's called Hell's Kitchen..
Posted by EleanorJune (Member # 7024) on :
We have the US version of his show now too. I like it. I like that he is so blunt and out there. I wont lie, I watch him on BBC late night too!
Posted by ISIS (Member # 1780) on :
I thought what I saw in the previews of him, he needed someone to smack him a good one.
To get that out of control over a meal, that's crazy.
There's one thing to be perfectionist...but screaming and making people bawl over food....when food should be fun.
I love cooking...if someone came in my kitchen and was yelling at me...or for that fact...if I was in their kitchen and they yelled at me, I'd whack them over the head with a frying pan, and say "eat that".
There's never any reason for that.
Posted by EleanorJune (Member # 7024) on :
I would agree that if he came into my home and started yelling at me I would do the same thing ISIS! But his life is food. If it isn't perfect everytime, it's a disaster. I worked in restaurant for a few years and kitchens like that are intense. Every dish has to be perfect. Most of the time, it is a place that calls him for his help. They are asking for it! The episodes where people who are not following Serve Safe regulations, should be shut down. And that I think is what makes him so irrate. He want's people to have his intensity, to be safe in serving their food.
I saw an episode where the KM (kitchen manager) was allowing his chef and kitchen staff to hold raw and cooked chicken together in a single pan. I think they deserved the screaming they got. That is unacceptable. And gross!
So much can go wrong in a large kitchen if it isn't monitored. You can make hundreds of people sick in a matter of a few hours if you do something as small as let one of your holding bins get above 40 degrees.

Yeah I know.....I was helping my son with his Health today...and that's where I was reading about the tattoos...and Hepititis...because he's studying diseases...and the things you can get from restaurants is horrible.
You can pick up an STD off a bathroom toilet...
If you think about everything too much, you'd never leave the house.
I hardly ever eat fast food...but on occassion...if I am starving to death...I will eat something....I am usually with my husband and son, so if we go to a drive thru, I will not look at who's handing us the food, cause I have done it before, and been so grossed out, I threw the food away...and then I was mad because I wasted money on nothing....but it doesn't matter...you could be in an upscale place and they might have just came out of the bathroom, or been picking their nose...and then touched your plate...so you'll never know.
I do know though...that when I have eaten out...I have a huge tendency to get severely sick...I have had food poisoning before. So...I agree in practicing safe food handling. I have a business where I prepare food for people...so I make sure everything I touch is as clean as I can get it. Plus, I am a neat fanatic.
I just think that the best teachers are people who do not use tactics like screaming in your face. That I know for sure, because my son is doing cyber schooling because it happened to him...and he's a mess now over it.

But have you saw some of the slummy restaurant kitchens Gordon has been in? The owners/management deserve the scolding for actually serving food out of an establishment whose kitchen closely resembles a garbage dump. So your comparing the bad effects of bad food on kids vs. the movies and videos they watch? Two entirely different things but one thing in common: it's up to the parents. I realize many kids will sneak and watch/play a video game or movie anyway but the entire population shouldn't be denied a game or movie just because someone's afraid their kid's gonna be influenced.......

I think Ramsays great. I don't mean to offend any of you but his kitchen nightmares USA really exposed a lot of pretty dumb people!! I mean some of those people shouldn't be allowed serve pigs for God's sake!! But nevertheless great entertainment methinks!!

Wasn't there a thread on cooking? I can't find it. Just wanted to know what you all are cooking, maybe something will interest me. I cook almost every night, unless we are going out somewhere to the movies or something on the weekend. Today I made sloppy joes cuz I was too tired to "cook", but I do make my own sauce. Yesterday I made thyme-mustard catfish and apple crisp for dessert. It is my husband's favorite dessert I think. He bought a bushel of apples in Erie when he went up there fishing last weekend and he split it with his brother. So now I've got ot find more stuff to make with them! I found a couple of recipes, but if anyone has a favorite using tart-sweet apples, could ya let me know please?
