The movies listed in bold are the ones thatI have seen. The ones followed by an * are ones on the top of my list that I want to see. Eventually I hope to see all of these. Sam, I haven't seen most of the foreign films and very few from this year because I wait for the DVD, but I'd still say I'm about 90%. So my 'geek' status is quite intact. Might be why I love "Can't Buy Me Love".
Posted by Valley (Member # 1322) on :
The sad thing is there are only about 23 movies from the 80's on the list and very few are my favs from that decade.
Posted by 80'sRocked (Member # 6979) on :
I counted 75 that I definitely have seen. There are others that sound familiar, but I just don't remember if I saw them.
Posted by MotleyRulz (Member # 3598) on :
I've saw most of those minus the foreign ones. Shaun of the Dead above Gladiator c'mon lol! The first Psycho is classic Sam.........
Posted by Sam 'The Made Man' Hain (Member # 3150) on :
I have Psycho set on my DVR to record on Tuesday. Actually about 5 of the ones I haven't seen are set to record and I do own a couple that I have yet to see.
Posted by pettyfan (Member # 2260) on :
I've seen 46 of them. I don't watch foreign films...IMO, To Kill a Mockingbird should've been further up the list.
Posted by aTomiK (Member # 6575) on :
157 that i can remember, could be a few more. Me and my brother have always been movie collectors so that doesn´t really surprise me.
Recently i´ve been watching and collecting mainly 80s flicks. My brother must have 100-150 dvd´s that i haven´t watched yet so there is some work to do

Devolution here,
Sam, Leon is "The Professional" and I'm sure you have seen that.
We are DEVO

sam, there were a lot of movies on that list that you should have seen already. i'm appauled.
ALIENS??? you've never watched it? you must do so asap... as a favor to me, anyway. it's my favorite.
Posted by Helen_S (Member # 5804) on :
124 for definite.
Leon's fantastic, I need to see that again.
Posted by Valley (Member # 1322) on :
NowhereGirl,
"Aliens" is the rare case where the sequel was even better than the original in my opinion. Also, I thought you and Sam were friends......how could he have not watched "Aliens" by now? ha, maybe it was just a typo.....otherwise it sounds like Sam might be visiting the video store tonight.
Posted by NowhereGirl (Member # 465) on :
glad you agree valley.
as for the list, i have seen 132 of those. i'm surprised that rocky is at the very bottom of the list.
Posted by jdocster (Member # 5752) on :
Sammy, I'd say 135 for sure, but some of the older ones I might have seen when I was younger. Sometimes I'll see an old movie playing and watch it for a few minutes and realize I saw it but didn't remember the name.
Good posting!

Aliens was definitely better than the first one...

On further research I noticed that most of the Japanese titled movies from the past ten years or so are anime films so I just might pass on those.
Posted by ISIS (Member # 1780) on :
That's a weird top 250. Are they listed in order of popularity? I can't think that Shindler's List would be that popular. It's so depressing.
I have seen 65 of those movies, for sure.
Posted by Sam 'The Made Man' Hain (Member # 3150) on :
People rank the movies 1-10 and then they take the average of all the votes and that's how they get their ranking.
Current movies are usually always inflated because you have all the fanboys who go out and see a movie and they're almost always going to give that movie a 10 no matter what. Eventually as time goes by and the more unbiased fans get a chance to see the movie the ratings will start to be a little more relistic.
By it's nature it will somewhat be a little more skewed in favour of the more recent releases but your timeless classics will usually be ranked pretty high.

JDoc-That must seem low...but honestly I thought that was a horrible list of movies...alot of the ones I saw...I didn't like.
Like, I hate the movie "Forrest Gump", and so many people loved it...but I thought it was depressing, and he drove me crazy in that movie...there were so many things about it I didn't like.
I think Gone with the Wind and The Wizard of Oz should be in the top 10-those movies are Larger than life.
What about any Walt Disney movies???
Posted by 80'sRocked (Member # 6979) on :
My count is pretty low too I guess. I'm just not into the "classics" as much as most are. Especially movies before the 70's. I just have trouble watching them. Plus, my favorite genre of movies is more sci-fi, suspense or mystery. With that said, there are alot of great titles on that list.
Posted by JAYLEE (Member # 6345) on :
That list is a joke, as is IMDB! well, im just gonna stop here... if you don't have anything nice to say......!
Posted by Sam 'The Made Man' Hain (Member # 3150) on :
Maybe some of these lists will satisfy some of you a little bit more. These are compiled by critics instead of by fans like over at IMdB. Keep in mind that these lists aren't 100% updated so some of the more current movies wouldn't be on these lists.

actually I'm not as high on Forrest Gump as much as I used to be.
Posted by TKO (Member # 1471) on :
I have seen 54 of this list. And yes... Forrest Gump is one of them. To my surprise I liked it.
Posted by NOMStallica (Member # 2688) on :
I counted 115 that I have definetly seen already and about another 20-30 that I will or probably should see...

I also want to point out that since this is a fan voted upon list that the list will change peiodically. Some of the movies towards the bottom of the list might fall in and out of the list. Naturally those towards the top will always be on the list but their positions will flip-flop.
Posted by logan5 (Member # 1467) on :
203.
There are way too many new films high on the list that will vanish over the next few years. 'Dark Knight' at number 3 is a travesty. It's interesting that the Star Wars trilogy is starting to slip thanks to the junk that Lucasfilm has been pushing out over the last few years successfully destroying what was one of the most invincible brands in cinema.

Sam, I can update your wish list with some great ones from the list that you really should see... There are some excellent older British movies there that are less well known over Stateside, like Kind Hearts and Coronets - actually anything from the 40s / 50s by Ealing Studios is worth the effort.
