The fact that a 10 screen multiplex deems it appropriate to relegate a movie that's been out for less than a week to a small screen (whilst Smurfs and Smurfs 3D get both the big screens) is one thing. But the fact that Rise of The Planet of the Apes is an excellent film that's even worth watching on a smaller screen, is quite another.
Movie follows the origin of the ape takeover of Earth, good acting, well written chracters and some good action makes for a great film. See it.

Beat this one.....I got paid to go see this movie! I work with teenagers, and a couple weeks ago on a low key day, got to take one of the kids to dinner and a movie. He picked "Smurfs" and I was a bit gagged, but hey, it's not always about me . When we got there, Smurfs was sold out (answered prayer?), and with zero influence or presure from me....his second choice was Rise of Planet of the Apes......swing! I really liked it too. A neat little role for John Lithgow, the very cute girl from Slumdog Millionaire, and an always strong performance by James Franco. Not too impressed witht he casting of Draco Malfoy from Harry Potter....dude can't act...and they gave him Charton Heston's beloved line in the original movie.....all good cept for that!

Kev, my sentiments about it exactly. I really liked it for all the reasons you said (Ms. Pinto is more than very cute) and the neat small role for the great Brian Cox. (I loved how the color of his shades matached his hair and beard.)

I am looking forward to seeing this, and hope to, soon! Wonder what Noms thought??

Good points Crash...forgot to mention Brian Cox...and totally agree about Ms Pinto....I opted for "very cute", as she is knuckle biting beautiful...couldn't bring myself to start putting words to her beauty....certain I couldn't have done it without sounding like a perv....which I am totally not!

I had a boss who was the consummate professional--who was also careful to avoid sexual harassment complaints from employees. He would have said that Ms. Pinto was "pleasant looking." I prefer "achingly beautiful."

Awwwww. How nice to see that my opinion is wanted...
Personally, I loved the movie. It was an emotional rollercoaster and you just couldn't help siding with the Apes throughout. Not a huge fan of Franco TBH and he doesn't sell wonder scientist to me but he did enough not to ruin the movie. Cannot wait for the inevitable sequel!
Damned dirty Noms

I prefer 'distinctly average'. Not my cup of tea at all.

Just caught this again on Blu Ray and am pleased to report that I enjoyed it just as much on second viewing as I did on the first.
Bring on the sequel...
Personally I think the sequel should have been called Rise of The Planet of the Apes with the first one being called something like
Dawn of The Planet of The Apes
or something similar...
Repeated Noms

Watched this last night and it was a fun chimp flick. Like Project X 2011. Can´t believe that this was so succesful though. It felt like a b-movie. Entertaining b-movie.
John Lithgow and Andy Serkis did the best roles. Now i have a serious cgi overdose...
