On Thanksgiving, my friend's son brought his lap top here, and we played Family Feud on it.

I had forgotten how much I use to love that game.

I use to love when they did the celebrity episodes...with the casts of all the top TV shows.

FAMILY FEUD is probably my favorite game show of all time (I love WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE too, but that isnt as cheesy and horribly dated fashioned as FF and so FF is more fun to watch).

I want to NETFLIX their 'celebritye dition' as I've heard THE BRADY BUNCH is on there!

All incarnations of the show have been great (including the recent one which has only improved as they've gotten increasingly better hosts and restored the original theme). If only Richard Dawson's ego hadn't exploded, perhaps the original run might have even gone a couple of years longer. Ray Combs doesn't seem to get as much respect, but he was wonderful in his own right; losing him so tragically might well put a damper on his run (believe me, I know exactly how he was feeling at the end).

Currently there is a Best Of set out there if anyone's interested in it for Christmas. I think it only covers Dawson's run, but I'd have to check.

One other little note: you've probably heard the rarely used end of the theme before. For years it's been used to introduce Grand Game on The Price Is Right. Just though you'd like to know.

oh boy. comparing yourself to Ray Combs is never a good sign. Especially around the Holidays.

I've been feeling a little "heavy hearted" myself lately...I think its just the holidays and the feeling that I SHOULD feel happy but dont (like Charlie Brown in his first Christmas special!) Hang in there, Dude.

Don't you want to know who the 100 people were that they surveyed?

I had forgotten about Ray Combs committing suicide. He was a good host. He had 6 children. He was only 40 years old when he died. It says he was in alot of debt-I never understand why people kill themselves over money...you can pay off your bills...but you can't ever come back from dead. I never liked Louie Anderson as a host.

Plus his marriage of 20 some years was starting to sink, and thus he was starting to believe himself a failure. I certainly never thought so, and clearly we all could have told him otherwise given the chance. Also probably the old comedians' condundrum; you can bring people infinite joy, but you yourself can never be completely happy.

No, I didn't really appreciate Anderson as a host either (really the only good thing he's done in my book was to deliver the flowers--and later to accompany The Nurse Who Likes to...well, we all know--to the Buellers). Fortuitously, Richard Karn and John O'Hurley have proven better.

My friend who is a stand up comic, has told me that most comedians are severely depressed in real life. They use comedy as an outlet for their own depression. You would think that people that are suppose to be funny would be happy people. But, if you listen to alot of comedians out there...they do alot of personal bashing on themselves. Louie Anderson constantly made fat jokes about himself, and I never thought it was cool to laugh about someone's problems that they were having issues over.
I think it would be even worse to stand in front of people...putting yourself down...and everyone laughing at you for it...that would be so torturous.

Ron White picks on himself...he is a major chain smoker and a big time drinker...and I don't think those are things to laugh about.

Eddie Murphy has made fun of everyone he can think of.

Sometimes comedy is really deep .

Richard Dawson upset the Governor of California and got his come-uppance

Richard Dawson is a recluse. I think he's one of the top "celebrities people assume is dead".
I never watched HOGANS HEROS as a kid (and dont like it as a grown up either!) and only knew Dawson from FAMILY FEUD. I didnt even watch MATCH GAME until a few years ago - and that show is a stitch and Dawson is the "smartest" one there. Everytime someone has to ask a celebrity for the answer they pick Richard, cuz he gives the best answers.

I think Dawson was the best host and he made the show - I always feel extra happyw hen I tune in and its a Richard Hosted Episode (plus since HIS are from the '70s they have the most ludicrous fashion and hair dos).

I had to think for a minute - WAS Louie a host? Yes he was! My best friend used to do a great Louie Anderson impression (my friend weighs about 95 lbs by the way) and whenever we'd watch a LOUIE episode he'd make jokes in a Louie Anderson voice through the whole episode (this was around the time a man accused Anderson of sexual harassment so my friend would make dirty come-hither jokes about Louie hittin on the guys on the show)

A LOT of people bash Karn (the "HOME IMPROVEMENT" guy) as "the worst game show host ever" but I think he was okay. I like his better than O'Hurley, who is a little too dry for me.

So for me I guess it would be.....

Dawson
Combs
Karn
Anderson
O'Hurley

did I miss any????

Who is O'Hurley?

I liked the 70's and the 80's shows. The questions were even better.

I loved Richard Dawson on Match Game...he was awesome. I love that show...that would have been the ideal dream job. I remember hearing Brett Sommers talk about them going out to dinner together ...and then they got paid to just be goofy...and play a game. How cool is that.

John O'Hurley from SEINFELD hosts now (I think! HAs he been canned yet? Hahaha)

Yeah, MATCH GAME - they NOW admit theyd have a few drinks before the show to loosen 'em up! They really seemed to be having fun filming that show.

Oh...I know who he is...he was the one that was the sore loser on the first episode of Dancing with the Stars.

My favorite thing about Family Feud is when they have the chance to sweep and the whole family tells the Dad to go with a really logical answer and he second-guesses them and goes with something really ridiculous.

Host: Okay, top five answers are on the board. Name an animal people commonly keep as a house pet. We have cats, fish, birds, and hampsters...what's your answer?

Family (altogether): Dog, Dad.

Father: I'm gonna go with giraffe.

Hahaha...thats funny cuz its true!

I remember in the '80s reading SEVENTEEN magazine and there was like a 3 page story in there written by a girl whose family had been on the show. She told all about the experience but the ONE thing I remember from the whole article was her saying that the show MAKES you say "Good answer, good answer" no matter HOW stupid the answer IS. She said they really want to keep things lively and exciting and so they actually prod you to jump up and down and act like idiots, even tsk tsk-ing you during the commercial breaks and telling you to 'pump it up'when the show resumes filming. She listed an example - but I cant remember what it was so I'll use yours: During the commercial break the people running the show would say "Okay, Blake family....you werent excited enough during the last round, so THIS round coming up really act excited and scream 'good answer, good answer' a lot, okay? Okay? Good"

Host: Name a popular family pet.
Dad: An ostrich!
Family (frowning and scowling but jumping up and down): Good answer, good answer!

Is a hampster the by-product of a mating between a hamster and a hamper?
