What was the name of that football player who died from cancer after steroid use? He also had a family sit-com in the late 80s where he played a wrestler. What was the name of the sit-com? I still remember watching an interview with him when he got so skinny and lost all his hair. This was in the early 90s. I think it was played on ESPN.

Argh you just beat me to it! The sitcom was called "Learning the Ropes." He was in Ernest Goes to Camp, too.

That was truly a sad story with Alzado. I don't know how anyone can do steroids. Sports are loaded with it these days. At least they're trying to clean it up now. Look at Macgwire....he used to be a hero to me and shamed himself and the sport in front of congress(along with others).

I used to watch Learning the Ropes, Yanique Bisson was in it, a good canadian actor still going strong. Sad about Alzado, tons of steroid casualties out there like Bill Romanowski, Tony Mandarich, it's kust shameful what they will do to their bodies to get that edge.

John Matuszak was another football player that was a casualty from steroids. You might all remember him as the actor that played Sloth in The Goonies.

I just did a quick little research on John Matuszak who died at the age of 38 from heart failure possibly due to steroid use. But he also had a sister that died at a young age due to heart failure so part of his problem might have been due to a genetic disorder.

Arnold Schwarzenegger did steroids too.
He had open heart surgery to replace an aortic valve but he said he was born with a "defect" in the valve along with his brother. He says it was not steroid related. Lets hope not. It would suck if he died from it.

Lyle Alzado died from a brain tumor. There's no proof that steriods had anything to do with his death. He thought so, but then some people think their tumors are caused by demons and evil curses too.

Not to mention his legendary partying. In his autobiography he talks openly about the smorgasbord of narcotics he consumed throughout his adult life, frequently alternating amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines and alcohol in great excess.

Those 70's Raiders teams were hellraisers in general. A lot of them never met a curfew they didn't break.
