I remember when I was a kid they played ZAPPED on Tv and I taped it. Granted, it was CENSORED as all get out but I used to watch that tape over and over again. (Im sure if anyone had ever put on a neighborhood production of ZAPPED I could have played ANY part- I knew ALL the lines!)

I bought the DVD a few days ago and have been waiting for just the right time to crack it out. I wanted to watch it with my best friend (he loves Heather Thomas) but our plans fell through and so I decided to have a few beers and watch ZAPPED alone.

WOW- What a bad movie! Was it ALWAYS this bad or has it just aged poorly????

The funny thing is when I was 12 I LOVED IT! (I guess its a movie best viewed by 12 year olds).

I got about half-way through it and turned it off. Maybe next time I see my friend I'll give it another go.

Anybody have any movies they loved as a kid that they are aghast at NOW? Does anyone remember loving ZAPPED - or maybe STILL DOES?

ZAPPED was always that bad

That's pretty understandable. EVERYTHING was always better as a kid. Some movies I loved as a kid and then watched as an adult that were not as good are:

The Sword and the Sorcerer
Explorers
E.T.
Starman
The BRAT Patrol
Witchboard

I still like them, but no way as good as when I was a kid.

although i recognized it was bad as a kid, a little t-n-a always went a long way. and of course this movie set the stage for the greatness that was "Charles in Charge".

i still think i'd like to watch it again.

Charles in Charge was horrible Baio/Aames needed to be stopped during ZAPPED before they could spawn another crap vehicle together.

There's always some films I am watching that seem more dated than I remember. I seem to recall these:

Meatballs 2
The Allnighter
Ghoulies

I remember watching some Dukes of Hazard episodes recently and watching in disebelief as I asked myself why this was the hottest show on tv when I was a kid.

I was so disappointed a couple of years back when I re-watched Xanadu. I'd seen it as a 12 year old and loved it, but by god it turnd out to be a shocking film!

I watched some Superfriends dvds last year, and my excitement soon turned to disappointment as well.

i hate to admit it, but i watch the superfriends with my kids when they are aired on the boomerang channel, and as much as i would love to tell you how great they are, they are so basic, or simplistic, that i can't really seem to get into them like i hoped i would. but my kid is only 3 and he likes them, so i manage. it's better than sitting through thomas the tank engine for the millionth time.

i'm all about those new justice league cartoons though.

You know what I think "helped" this movie along when I was 12? I think I thought both Baio and Aames were cute! Had this movie starred any two other guys I probably would have run screaming!
It also had the guy who played Chester from SOAP (a show I loved) and Scatman in it (THE SHINING)....so it was actually a T & A flick that starred real people we'd actually heard of!

A movie I saw in the theater as a kid and HATED was MEATBALLS. All my friends loved it and thought it was hilarious. Nowadays whenever we name movies we used to love and somone says "MEATBALLS" I always say "Yeah? Try watching it NOW" and then a few days later that person will call me up and say "Wow- you're right: That movie is TERRIBLE"!

Ok..so is it a bad sign when you still like "Zapped" and "Meatballs"? [Embarrassed]

mamamiasweetpeaches, I totally know what you are saying about certain movies not aging well. I usually still enjoy those type of movies because of the nostalgia attached, but if you had me sit down now and watch them for the first time I might have a different view possibly.

Honestly, I hadn't seen "Zapped" since HBO in the 80's, so I caught it on late night tv recently and wow it has not aged well. I still had fun with it, but not the keeper I once thought. Great seeing 'Hong Kong Phooey' again though.

At least Willie Aames still can point to his voice work for Hank on Dungeons and Dragons with pride; I think we can agree that's still aged pretty good.

meatballs, terrible?!?!?!?!? i have to say it, i think meatballs is my third favorite bill murray movie, only behind caddyshack and stripes. that movie is so quotable. i quote it all the time, and most people have no idea what im talking about. i can never get tired of meatballs. that movie made me want to go to summer camp. and it still does.

dungeons and dragons is still great. i watch wacky races and the adventures of penelope pitstop with my kid and i still dig those.

and although i haven't seen it in a long time, my old roomate and i watched charles in charge religously. willie ames was funny as hell. plus i was a huge eight is enough fan.

I Love Zapped!, I didn't think it aged badly...I love it....

I also totally love Meatballs...I never get sick of that movie...I could watch it all summer long...it's like Little Darlings...I love camp movies so much...and I love movies that I like the entire cast of people...and both these movies are like that for me.

little darlings is great too. and also the many horror camp movies as well. even cheeleader camp movies(Pandemonium anyone?)

and i totally agree, both movies are well cast. and that goes a long way in how well movies stay fresh and relevant.

OK, I'm not going to say "Cheerleader Camp" is for everyone, but as a huge Lucinda Dlckey and Betsy Russell fan it is definitely great late night campy fun. Oh and the horror special effects were top notch. Little side note, Lucinda actually met her future husband on this movie and he went on to become one of the producers of season 1 of "Survivor".

The movie which I dare not try to spell, is only for true fans of The Smothers Brothers brand of comedy.

Devolution here,

NOTE: Meatballs is amazing. If you don't like it, you probably never went to camp, or were a camp counselor. Valley is right, it's right in the prime of Bill Murray's career.

Zapped... Eh, it's 80's high school fun. That's all it should be.

We are DEVO

I can watch LITTLE DARLINGS over and over again- and like you pointed out, I think a lot to do with it is I find everyone in it so appealing. Kristy and Tatum were dolls and Matt and Armand were SMOKIN' hot...so whats not to like? I think if this movie starred other people I would STILL like it, but not be as ga-ga as I am over it now. Perfect casting all the way 'round.

And I am not TOO ashamed to admit I love CHEERLEADER CAMP....its cheesy but its got some decent legitimate kills in there!
