There were some great games around, remember the motion subs for 'Afterburner' and 'Chase H.Q.'? or the excellent beat-em' up 'Michael Jackson's Moonwalker' (admit it, how many of you fell over trying to copy 'The Lean' from 'Smooth Criminal'?) Loved the 'Operation Wolf' games, the machines were just so well made, they looked as good as the games themselves.

some of the ones i used to play when i was a kid back in the 80's were sonic, vigilante and this space ship game where you had to shoot and dodge the comet rocks

My parents were always a bit reluctant to let me going into a arcade setting, fearing that more aggressive kids would pick my pockets. When possible, though, I'd go to town, especially if it was Out Run or any version of Pac-Man (Super Pac-Man being my favorite). The bowling alley nearby also had the TMNT video game (first or second, I'm not sure), and after making sure I'd select Leonardo to play with (he was always my favorite, perhaps because he wields identifiable weapons to a young child), I'd rock and roll--although try though I might, I could never quite get past the burning building level.
Now if this discussion extends beyond actual arcades to the games in them, I sampled quite a bit of them through multi-genenrational Intellivision sets over the years. Favorites include Night Stalker, Shark ! Shark! (I went well over 100,000 points a couple of times), Lock 'n Chase (level 10), Astrosmash, Donkey Kong, Frogger (level 13), Q-Bert (&*(%(&^%&#!), Star Strike (even though controlling the ship was ridiculous even without the alien fighters on your tail) and Carnival. Much as I wanted to try it out, I could never quite get the Dungeons & Dragons disc to work, though, and thus have had to settle for watching Ralph Hinckley go to town playing it in that episode where they're infiltrating the real-life D&D game, believe it or not.

To me it was Zaxon,Moon Patrol,Operation wolf, Breakout,Vanguard,forget the name but it was a space game with realistic graphics,and Star Trek. Never liked arcades because of the theives,punks and jerks looking for a free game and they began to cost more to the point where you are better off buying the console version of a game.

I've played a lot of these games, actually, for a lot of my life. Thank goodness they have them handy at my local pizza parlor, too. ^_^
I occasionally play TMNT & Pacman (along with Galaxa, Asteroids, & Centipede, believe it or not), & other times, I've played Star Wars & Frogger.

Gigawatt? Chuck E. Cheese was and still is da place to be as a kid... I still go there when my kid siblings have birthday parties... they serve pizza there are tunnels, a pool of colorful balls to jump in- DA BOMB better than just playing the arcade..but they had a variety of arcade games to choose from (depends on the size of the Chuck E. Definitely something I would have played had it been available in my area. I do love the Smooth Criminal segment of The Moonwalker the concept for the game was based on (is it any wonder Michael ended up friends with Macaulay Culkin given that they both give Joe Pesci the worst whippings of his career), with Michael proving he's not just the King of Pop, he's the King of Transformers as well (the Spaceship Mike was fascinating). The heck with the negative press, they should put it back on VH-1.

Ok There were a few places to play games in my old hometown. The best of which was Alladin's Castle of course. Man, birthday parties at Alladin's Caslte with all of the games set to free play... That was the best.
As for the games themselves:
Dragon's Lair, actually a rather crappy game, but if ever there was someone really good playing it, a crowd always formed to watch!
Super Off Road - always loved that game.
My local Alladins Castle had a Super Mario Bros Stand up that ate away much of my allowance money until I got my first NES.
Then there was a few coin ops at Hills and Krogers. I remember at Krogers, Robotron 2004? or 2084? Had two sticks and you had to save the people from the robots... That game was freaking hard and panic inducing but I couldnt resist playing it. They also had Donkey Kong 3. A pitiful game in retrospect but as a kid I thought the player character looked cool so I loved it.
Then at hills they had the Original Mario Bros, and Elevator Action.
Man the memories..... I loved those days....

I absolutely, positively cannot stand that place. Aside from the skeeball and the quarterback football toss game and a couple other games it is pathetic. Maybe if the prizes were ALOT better it would be different. Any game that takes longer to incert your coin than it does to play the game is a joke and CC should be ashamed of themselves for it.

terdnthepoolggb when my family went on holiday to atlanta we had a place right next door to our hotel called dave & busters,it seemed pretty cool,had a few decent arcade games in there but it was mostly a lot of games where you win tickets towards prizes,my wife got a massive teddy bear. we really struggled trying to fit it into the suitcase for the flight back home.

young warrior. Thanx for your input. There is a D&B about 50-60 minutes from my home. Thats a pretty good drive but I think they have a restaurant also dont they? If so, that would make a good family day and a nice break from CC.

This is a great Shoot 'Em Up. Plenty of action in this game. You need to have good reflexes to beat this one
it reminds a bit of a game i used to love playing on my amstrad cpc464 many years back called - gryzor https://youtu.be/BRvwYtEFnNs -it seems to have a similar style to midnight resistance.
the food at dave and busters was really nice from what we tried terdnthepoolggb,are the d&b franchise still going strong over there?

Just discovered a bar called 16-Bit in Columbus. Went to it two weeks ago. It has rows of old '70's - '90's games. The best bar I've ever been to!

Back in the 80's it was one hell of an arcade minus the smokey and dark atmosphere. The selection of games was second to none although they had a weird policy of charging twenty five cents for the new, in demand games rather than tokens. This ****ed off many kids at the time including myself.
What was even better was a local chain called "Top Dog" of only three operations. It served the obligatory hot dogs, burgers and fries and basically it cost $0.39 cents for a regular burger or dog and $0.49 if you wanted cheese or chili. This place was crowded, hot, stuffy, etc.., You experienced the 80's arcade just with food.
Of course we also had Aladdin's Castle and a few bowling lanes with well stocked arcades too. Nowadays everything has changed and it started back with the Genesis. Thanks Sega.
