Another bit of sad news, what is going on. Dropping like flies. Any Japan fans here? Or even bass players? Loved Japan and some of their songs like Life in Tokyo, European Son, Art of Parties and Ghosts. Clearly influenced Duran Duran in a big way with their music and fashion sense and never got the adulation as they broke up in 1982. The bassist Mick Karn has passed. Had a very distinctive bass sound, he played a fretless and had a very nimble, watery sound. Sad no Japan reunion will take place now. R.I.P.

David Sylvian stole Mick Karn's girlfriend back in '81, which was one of the reasons Japan just couldn't get along with each other anymore and caused them to break up at their peak. Mind you, they had recorded 5 albums together, which puts them ahead of Duran before they split, so maybe it was just their time.
PS: 'Gentlemen Take Polaroids' is one of the best New Romantic albums released. Japan always seemed to be a year ahead of mainstream fashion.

Yeah that was a sorry debacle. Here's Dave Sylvian who could have had just about any woman in England and he has to take the one of his bandmember. Always thought that Japan and Sylvian never wanted to play ball with the industry judging from their breakup up to his experimental solo work.
I love the Quiet life album. And I read that their final album Tin Drum was very influential production wise on a young Tears for Fears.
