Roxette is a Swedish pop band, formed of Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle. Roxette came out of Sweden in the late '80s and had several chart topping tunes. I figured since I got so much love for Bananarama, I might as well get the slams in for enjoying Roxette while I'm on a roll.
In 1986 Roxette released its first debut album "Pearls of Passion". Roxette toured Sweden in 1987 and playing for close to 100,000 people per show during an open-air festival.
But it wasn't until Roxette released their second album "Look Sharp!" that they hit international fame. Most notable was the tune "The Look" which is probably considered their 80's signature song by most folks.
In the 80's I actually thought "Listen to your heart" was a tune by Heart. But my fav tune by Roxette is actually "Dangerous".
Did you know that there was a Roxette tune in the movie "Pretty Woman"? I realize "The Look" is overplayed, but I still remember it being used in the "Ferris Bueller" tv show that started Charlie Schlatter as Ferris, Ami Dolenz as Sloan, and Jennifer Aniston as Ferris's sister Jeannie.
Overall, it in no way compares to the movie, but worth watching for Ami Dolenz in my opinion! Oh and love of the use of "The Dream Is Still Alive" by Wilson Phillips at the end of the clip..

same here! i love their music, but i never cared for the song, 'the look' too much. but i remember it being super popular.
i also remember in the early 90s, their song Fading Like A Flower ...love that song as well.
but 'dangerous' is definitely my favorite.

Hey Ronnie! How about the short lived "Ferris Bueller" tv show?
As you pointed out.. Roxette carried over into the 90's with some more good tunes!

My brother and I loved Roxette! I remember buying the cassette tape of "Joyride" and blasting it all the time on our little boom box, haha.
I really like "Dangerous," "Listen to your heart," and "It must have been love."

"Na na na na na, na na na na na na na na na na na, na na na na na na na na na na naaaaa she's got the look"
*Repeat*

As far as I can recall 'It Must've Been Love' was their biggest hit.

Roxetter were OK for a while, they kind of lost me with Sleeping in your car, there were one of those 80's hangover. I was kind of shocked when I cam across their first album before the Look Sharp album, anyone have it or know if it's any good?

Similar to "Weird Science".. "Ferris" had very little small screen exposure and failed to find its core audience.
Ferris only lasted 13 episodes and I don't think all of them aired originally. Overall, I think it is worth watching, but by no means will it compare to the movie.

Same with 'Fast Times'. There was also a Ferris ripoff starring Jon Cryer called 'The Famous Teddy Z'.

"Parker Lewis Can't Lose" was a TV show with a similar theme as Ferris that was supposedly much better...I think Billy Jacoby starred in it?

i remember parker lewis, saw a few episodes, but wasn't a faithful watcher. i wish i would have paid more attention to these shows.
valley i had forgotten that there was a weird science tv show. but i remember the girl that played lisa. she was pretty. not kelly lebrock pretty, ... but pretty.
anyway, i think it would be cool to watch these shows, since i didn't really see them when they originally aired.

I never realised roxette were still going, last thing I heard was that Marie Fredrickson had serious health issues and I thought that the band had siezed to exist but they've done two albums since - one in 2011 called - charm school and one in 2012 named - travelling which I was unaware of.
Liked there early stuff and do find there later output very hit & miss but they can still put out the odd catchy number!
and from there 1991 album joyride - Things will never be the same https://youtu.be/7-T330iBZs8 Posted by Bernie_Lomax (Member # 8571) on :

Yeah, he was one of the stars but the main star was Corin Nemec - I used to watch this show - I used to like it.

Roxette is one of my favorite groups. Check out the live version of the newer song "It's Possible". They also had a recent hit with "She's Got Nothing On But The Radio". Too bad they hardly ever come to North America.

from there last two albums i think i slightly prefer travelling but i still think charm school has some decent tracks on it!

They were one of my favs too, did you know the Must have been love song had been a hit in Sweden a few years before and when Roxette were approached my the makers of the movie for a song they had nothing new to offer so offered that old song....
Also Marie has stated many times that the song she loves the most that they have recorded is Perfect Day.........I also love it, simple but good!

The Swedish version was actually a Christmas song wasn't it? Or am I going crazy?

Roxette is coming out with a new album and Per says it's gonna be the best since "Crash! Boom! Bang!".

I thought I heard she had cancer and was very sick for awhile.
Posted by Jakey V (Member # 37348) on :
Yeah, I checked on that. She had brain cancer in 2002.

Sadly, Roxette canceled their world tour a few days ago because Marie's doctor said she's not fit for touring. I never got to see them.

I see they've got a new album coming out early June called Good Karma and have just released there first single from it - https://youtu.be/BfzbHKayVxE called It Just Happens.

One festival here in Finland had to cancel the whole two day event because of this. But we have to remember that health comes first. I hope Marie will be ok.
