Just bought Toni Basil album called Word of Mouth (1982)
Itīs a pretty good pop lp with some wild and wicked tunes [Cool]

"Mickey" was the lead single and an international hit.

Cool song but i think that the best track on the album is "Hanging Around"
This album was also available on VHS and Betamax video cassettes,
so they mustīve made lots of videos!

She made a second album in ī83 called "Toni Basil".
She was also an actress and has a nice filmography:

* Pajama Party (1964)
* The T.A.M.I. Show (1964)
* Village of the Giants (1965)
* Breakaway (1966)
* Head (1968)
* Sweet Charity (1969)
* Easy Rider (1969)
* Five Easy Pieces (1970)
* The Last Movie (1971)
* Greaser's Palace (1972)
* Won Ton Ton: The Dog Who Saved Hollywood (1976)
* Mother, Jugs & Speed (1976)
* The Toni Basil Show (One-off) (1982)
* Angel III: The Final Chapter (1988)
* Slaughterhouse Rock (1988)
* Rockula (1990)
* Pacific Palisades (1990)
* Catchfire (1990)
* Eating (1990)

I love the song "Over My Head" from her second album,
gotta find the lp somewhere:

Knew about Tony Basil for quite some time that she did far more then sing Mickey. Bought her greatest hits a while back, she did a nice Devo written tune. Also was blown away with her being in Easy Rider, even remember her in Angel Part 3. Love her coreography work too for the Talking Heads Once in a lifetime video.

and she's still going strong touring now right? I remember she was interviewed in one of those "one hit wonder" shows............honestly I HATE Mickey!! it's one of my most unfavorite songs ever.......I can't listen to it at all anymore.......sorry to get so angry haha but I think it is because of how many times i've had to listen to it in my life and how repetitive it is! haha [Smile]

If you replace 'Mickey' with 'Muffy' the song goes from geek to chic.

Unless you are the one singing it .. Geek!

I can still listen to "Mickey" because it is fun .. actually I only like to listen to it while watching the music video.. might be the cheerleaders! Ya think?

Always liked the fact that Toni Basil changed the name of the tune for Micky Dolenz. And everyone knows I enjoy a little Ami Dolenz on occasion.

Muffy, I agree with you 100% about Mickey...Any time this comes on the radio I turn it off immediately. Same with Karma Chameleon by Culture Club...

I don't wanna get a big head and all but 'Muffy' does make it sound nicer haha that totally cracked me up guys!!

Valley whats the story of Micky Dolenz? just that she crushed on him or what?? He was the goofy monkee? ha

Veronica i'll have to agree with you on Karma also........'Do you Really Want to Hurt Me' is my groove [Wink] never gets old!

Culture Club had some great songs, ("Time" is my favorite!), but Karma is just played out! Another one I really can't stand anymore is "Come on Eileen." Oy!!!

Toni Basil is underrated. My favorite is probably 'Over My Head'.

What about her song "Girls Nite Out" from the movie Modern Girls? I searched high and low for a good copy of that soundtrack!! Finally got the hookup [Smile] ! Great song! Sounds a little like Expose, "Point of No Return" towards the end!!

It works perfectly in the movie! I love that scene where they're all getting ready to head out for a night of clubbing, Bruno X & adventure!!! Right Valley? [Wink]

Totally forgot her soundtrack tunes.
She did also a song called "We're Ready Now" for the Gimme an F soundtrack.
I have to watch that movie again.

With reference to that film clip for "Mickey," I have read that Toni Basil still has her cheerleader uniform from it.

I moreover have something else. I turned up a website.

I remember I had the sheet music for MICKEY when I was in grade school because me and my friends were gonna dress up in matching outfits (navy blue tops, white skirts) and sing and dance to it for a Talent Show and one of the nuns took the sheet music away from me cuz of the "filthy lyrics" ("Anyway you wanna do it Ill take it like a man" maybe?) I remember at the time being flabberghasted they thought those lyrics were nasty. They shold compare it to the raunch thats on the radio now!

Did Toni do the choreography for the "Grease" movie?

No.

OK. She didn't do "Grease". My mistake.

But one of my movie reference books did say that Toni did the choreography of the high-school dance scenes in "American Graffitti". [Cool]

That's the next best thing.
