Wanted to see what kind of random list I could listen to by listening to my Music Choice stations on my digital cable. Started to listen to the 70s channel first and as soon as they started playing a song I don't particularly like so much I switched channels until I found a song I liked and listened to that one until they started playing a song I don't particularly care for and moved to the next station etc.... Note the last song listed on each station was the last song I liked on that station.

Elvis Presley--In The Ghetto
As the snow flies On a cold and gray Chicago mornin' A poor little baby child is born In the ghetto And his mama cries 'cause if there's one thing that she don't need it's another hungry mouth to feed In the ghetto
People, don't you understand the child needs a helping hand or he'll grow to be an angry young man some day Take a look at you and me, are we too blind to see, do we simply turn our heads and look the other way
Well the world turns and a hungry little boy with a runny nose plays in the street as the cold wind blows In the ghetto
And his hunger burns so he starts to roam the streets at night and he learns how to steal and he learns how to fight In the ghetto
Then one night in desperation a young man breaks away He buys a gun, steals a car, tries to run, but he don't get far And his mama cries
As a crowd gathers 'round an angry young man face down on the street with a gun in his hand In the ghetto
As her young man dies, on a cold and gray Chicago mornin', another little baby child is born In the ghetto

Atomik,
I've only recently started to appreciate Angra. I need to check out the Mato albums, as I've only heard the Falaschi era so far.
They need to start touring the UK more often.

Not normally a tribute album kinda guy but when an album includes tributes by Metallica, Machine Head and Trivium you gotta take notice. The fact that none of these bands get my award for best cover on the album makes it even more surprising.
Stand out track has to be Ghostlines haunting cover of Brave New World...

1."New Life" – 3:43 2."I Sometimes Wish I Was Dead" – 2:14 3."Puppets" – 3:55 4."Boys Say Go!" – 3:03 5."Nodisco" – 4:11 6."What's Your Name?" – 2:41 7."Photographic" – 4:44 8."Tora! Tora! Tora!" – 4:34 9."Big Muff" – 4:20 10."Any Second Now (Voices)" – 2:35 11."Just Can't Get Enough" – 3:40
Obvious stand out tracks are New Life and I Just Can't Get Enough, but there's not really a weak track on the album, as each one has a different slant on their early brand of synthesiser pop, from jaunty to melancholy.

Kylie Minogue -- Spinning Around. This is the song of feminine empowerment co-written by Paula Abdul that put Kylie back at the top of the Australian in addition to British charts, no doubt aided by its discotheque music video in which Kylie wears gold very brief, tight shorts. In fact, in Australia, Spinning Around debuted at No. #1.

Another singer / songwriter that I just started listening to is Damien Rice, current;y most famous for "The Blower's Daughter"...he's got some awesome stuff...plug his name into youtube and lots of stuff will come up. That being said, found a song on youtube that he actually sings with the above noted Ray Lamontagne..."To Love Somebaody"...a really nice take on this classic....
It took a few listens but I'm really enjoying this.

Well, i love their 80s and 90s cd´s and you should pretty much get all of them.
While i don´t listen the 70s stuff that much those albums are of course considered as classics.
I have to say that i didn´t like Vapor Trails (2002) very much and i haven´t heard the latest Snakes & Arrows (2007) cd at all.
So, i´m recommending the 80s and 90s stuff, the video collection dvd and the live dvd A Show of Hands (1989)

What's your favourite album?

...Getting in the Halloween spirit a bit prematurely I suppose. But I do very much enjoy Nox Arcana. And oh what beautiful imagery my mind conjurs up when drifting off in the wee hours of the night to melodies such as this. =)

Stand out tracks, Been To Hell, Comin' In Hot, Hear Me Now and Gangsta Sexy.

thanks atomik...i didn't really care for the "Darker Side of the Night" song at first. But it's come to grow on me thanks to it being part of the Friday the 13th part VIII soundtrack. So I may just have to delve into checking out that record. If the whole album is as good as that song then it'll be a no brainer.

Veronica, no one should ever hate one another based on what music he/she likes to listen. Just say go Gaga go! I must say that Lady Gaga is a very daring individual
Posted by Veronica Sawyer (Member # 2221) on :
Thanks aTomik! Her new album has been compared to Def Leppard, Depeche Mode, Bruce Springsteen, and Pat Benetar and I can definitely see those comparisons in the songs.
Check this song out, it has a guitar riff that sounds like something off an Iron Maiden album
nothing personal about gaga, but i dont see how she is being compared to bruce.
Posted by Bernie_Lomax (Member # 8571) on :
I love Van Halen - one of the best rock bands ever.
People just make stupid comparisons these days. On the radio a couple of years ago, they were trying to compare Pink to Led Zeppelin and I was like come on.
Posted by Veronica Sawyer (Member # 2221) on :
Clarence Clemons from the E street band played on a couple of her new songs which is why comparisons have been made.
Posted by Bernie_Lomax (Member # 8571) on :
Yeah but come on. Her music is totally different to Springstein's. Not better or worse, but totally different.
Posted by The Good Package (Member # 9492) on :
hey lomax, which do you like better, hagar or roth?
Posted by Veronica Sawyer (Member # 2221) on :
Um, I didn't say that her music is just like Springsteen's...All I said was that reviewers have pointed out the Springsteen influences on the new album due to the sax playing by Clarence Clemmons on a couple of the tracks and I can kinda see it.

I didn't say that you did say that her music is just like Springsteen's. I am aware of what you said. My point was that people, these days (not you) make ridiculous comparisons. To compare something, two things should be remarkably similar. As for Gaga and Springsteen, their music regardless of the same saxophonist being used is far from being remarkably similar. I understand what you are saying but my original point was that certain comparisons should not be made, i.e Pink and Led Zeppelin. I am not trying to have a go at you BTW

Diamond David Lee Roth - Original front man, severe stage charisma, coolest guy ever, off his face most of the time and pulled more chicks than anyone on the face of the planet.
Sammy Hagar - Will be seen as an outsider cos he is not the original, however he is a better singer than Dave, is actually a musician, done a great job keeping Van Halen afloat especially with the 5150 album, but does not have the charisma/coolness of Dave.
I respect both of them a lot but I would have to go with Dave. I would definitely rather see a Van Halen concert than a Van Hagar concert but I wouldn't turn down either.
Nice question BTW. Who is your pick?
Posted by The Pyromantic (Member # 7658) on :
roth and hagar are both good, have to lean towards hagar though love walks in, why cant this be love, best of both worlds, when its love, finish what you started, right now, cant stop loving you, are some great ones that got me interested in the band.

They have three studio album, so if you get a chance, check em out. Youtube tracks: Ready to Start, Keep The Car running, Sprawl 11, Wake Up, Rebellion, The Suburbs, Month of May, We Used To Wait. Budgetary limitations faced by John Carpenter at the dawn of his career forced him to take to his synthesizer collection and create his own visionary lo-fi scores for his movies. Pioneering video game music composers were similarly restricted by primitive sound chips and as a result, tiny magical sounds were forced into existence. How minimal can minimal get? At Pterodactyl Squad HQ we decided to find out by marrying the greatest hits of John Carpenter with the style and hardware of vintage video game systems. It's all about doing much with not much. It's all in the creativity. It's all in the imagination. It's all in the reflexes.

I still own the cassette I bought in 1990 and it still sounds good but wanted to upgrade to CD. I was shocked to see on Ebay they ranged from $30-65! Apparently a rare item? Loverboy is MTV. When I hear them that is what I think of, and my youth in the early 80's when MTV was absolutely awesome. Youtube has let us relive the videos of that time and that makes me

Lucky Ones. Love that one the most. Speaking of MTV... I purchased some old MTV footage on Ebay vhs mode. Like 15 hours or so. Very fun to get together with old friends and watch those videos and the commercials are entertaining also. The set is supposed to have the 1st 4 hours of MTV. Have not watched that one yet.

Never been a huge fan of Nightwish (although did like certain songs) and wasn't impressed with Anette's vocals once Tarja left. However, cannot stop listening to this album. New vocalist Floor seems a much better fit for the band, the production is excellent and the band seem to be really enjoying themselves.
The full video is also avalable on Youtube and is well worth a watch.
Also if you search "Nemo Floor Tarja Anette" on Youtube there's a well edited video highlighting the differences between each singer to prove my point about Floor.

It got mentioned in another thread and I have been back at uni this year. I am old for a student but not a Thornton Melon yet.

My old man never would understand why I think songs from 80's movies are good. Arggh...parents just don't get it.
Perhaps this week I will rock up to uni in a limo and get my driver to hold up a sign displaying the name Bruce Springsteen.

Yeah, they really put some love into it. Nice sound quality too. No dodgy bootleg live material to be found here !
The Runaways - Queens Of Noise (1977)
Generally considered to be the best Runaways studio album, it also features some pretty catchy tunes, most notably Joan Jett's I Love Playing With Fire. My personal favorite however is Neon Angels On The Road To Ruin.
https://youtu.be/mHWB2A-V_IM - been listening to mitch ryder's - when you were mine again which features in - hot dog the movie and the music video also contains the very busty - kitten natividad who also appeared in the fun 1983 teenage romp - my tutor

On march 18th, the unthinkable happened.. Universal Music released a massive 14 disc Alex Harvey box-set !
Alex Harvey - The Last Of The Teenage Idols
The box set pretty much contains everything from 1963 up till Harvey's untimely death in february 1982, including lots of stuff previously very hard to find and released for the first time on CD in this box.
Very expensive, but sooooooooooo worth it !
Check out The Last Of The Teenage Idols song from the SAHB period, and play it LOUD ! :
This last week or two I've been listening a lot to Change by Tears For Fears from 1983 - https://youtu.be/BVa-3xmwTRA .

Yeah I really love Tears For Fears and would love to have seen them in concert!
https://youtu.be/qYATcjvi0eE - If Anybody Had A Heart by John Waite as used in the great 1986 romantic drama About Last Night starring Rob Lowe and James Belushi.
Used only know John Waite for the hit song Missing You but he's done a fair few decent tracks over the years!

John Waite is great. I own all The Babys discs, both Bad English cd´s and his 80s solo albums are good. Especially Ignition rocks!

https://youtu.be/-rbMt2-U7TU - Wow! I ain't heard this one in years - Downtown by One 2 Many from 1989,i'm sure I used to have this on 7" single or my brother used to own it.
I think that this was a bit of a one hit wonder for this group though I might be wrong!

I'm currently going through a King Crimsom phase, listening mostly to live material from the early 70s, leading up to the release of their phenomenal album Red (1974).

2016 has been a great year for Zappa fans, with Frank's son Ahmet in charge of the vaults after Gail Zappa passed away. The latest bunch of titles includes Chicago '78 (2cd) and Little Dots (live material from the '72 Petit Wazoo tour), never before officially released, fully re-mastered and sounding astonishing !

The Stooges - Live at Goose Lake 1970
First legit release of the infamous, much bootlegged last show of The Stooges in their original line-up, taken from a recently unearthed soundboard recording and fully authorized by Iggy Pop himself for the gig's 50th anniversary.. Still not exactly pristine sound-quality, but historically significant for rock enthusiasts !

Virgin Prunes - If I Die, I Die (1982)
A good goth rock band and 80's album I vaguely remember hearing bits n pieces of when I was very young.
