Hi, I’m very pleased to announce that Graham Parker’s “The Up Escalator” (this is the one with the Springsteen duet) will be released on March 10th on American Beat Records. Artist: Graham Parker Title: The Up Escalator Although already a veteran of the English pub-rock scene when his first solo record came out in 1976, his American record label decided to market Graham Parker in the same "angry young man" vein as fellow countryman Elvis Costello. The fact of the matter is that Parker had more in common with the likes of Van Morrison and the Rolling Stones than the punk scene that he was being equated with. Always a critic’s darling, Parker was a perennial “next big thing” who never quite became the “big thing”. He did, however, attain a large and very devoted cult following that continues to this day. Now residing in upstate New York, Parker still plays venues in the Northeast continually and ventures out around the country when he releases a new album.
The Up Escalator, Parker's fifth studio release (and last with his great backing band, The Rumour), is another raw blast of vintage Graham: heavy on sharp rockers with a couple tough ballads thrown in for good measure. The album features a duet with Bruce Springsteen and was produced by Jimmy Iovine (Tom Petty, U2, Dire Straits, Bob Seger). The Up Escalator contains many Parker standards that are still in his live repertoire to this day. Simply put, this album is a filled with the gritty, no-nonsense rock & roll that made Graham a darling of the rock critics. A must have! Thanks!
