I remember I had a few 45s of STYX songs like Babe and Haven't We Been Here Before and stuff like that when i was a kid. I thought I was a pretty big STYX fan. I now realize how much good stuff they had that I didnt even know about!
I saw them twice last year and so to prepare for the shows I bought their two disc GREATEST HITS set. Wow! Every song is great!
My one "regret" is that by the time I saw them Dennis DeYoung wasnt with them...and I guess HE has rights to the songs he wrote cuz they werent doing a lot of their Biggies like "Babe" and "Mr Roboto" (which I love and everyone else SAYS they hate!)
*Weird Coincidence - Blue Collar Man just went on the radio as I type this. Oooooh...Spooooky!

i love styx. but dennis deyoung took that band down a bad path with the whole mr roboto album(and yes i like that song too). i never heard another song from that record but i never heard very good things about it.
tommy shaw told a great story about how they were down in alabama playing a festival and they were the headliner. i think he said they had to follow someone like the allman brothers who are gods down there. this was right around the time when the mr roboto album came out. he said the first 20 minutes of their show was just this long skit dennis had played out, kinda like the video, and before long they were getting pelted with beer bottles and anything else that could be thrown at them. i think he said they got one song in before they had to leave the stage and not return. apparently a bunch of drunken people from alabama weren't into deyoung's vision. shaw said it was at this show that he knew the band was done.

Everytime VH1 talks about that KILLROY/MR ROBOTO "play" that DeYoung came up with I laugh and wonder what the people in the audience must have been thinking. Can you imagine gettin ready to shake your fist and hear Renegade and there are a bunch of guys dressed as robots on stage? HAHAHA! I would pay to see that!

I love Styx with Roboto, Babe, and all.
Funny thing about Tommy Shaw....When he went on to join Damn Yankees with Ted Nugent, they razzed him so bad for being in Styx that he nearly quit the band. We all know how Nugent can be. He's a great player, but a hard@ss.

tommy shaw and the singer from night ranger(something blades) tour together now, doing mainly acoustic covers. i think they met when they were in the damn yankees.
i don't mind ted nugent, but i can't think of one song he ever wrote/sang that i like.

Jack Blades on bass was one of the lead singers from Night Ranger along with drummer Kelly Keagy.

i first heard about them when they went on the howard stern show. a cool story:
there was this guy who wrote this very sappy love song for howard and his fiance beth that he hoped they would play at their wedding. howard and the crew brushed the song off because it was kinda bad and sappy. turns out the guy had some sort of illness and died. well tommy shaw had heard the song and he and jack blades recorded their own take on the song. they played a show in PA which is where this guy was from and they invited his family to the show as special guests and they played this song for his family. the guy's mother went on howard's show and said how proud she was of him and how thoughtful everyone was, especially shaw and blades. this is not the actual show but this is the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKaJxy3edC0 Posted by 80'sRocked (Member # 6979) on :
Good stuff that Shaw/Blades. Thanks for posting.

yeah, that SHAW BLADES stuff is good. Its like they took a 70s Greatest Hits album and did all the songs on it!
