This isn’t probably what most of you were waiting for. But as a contribution to Riptide’s request to hear more Euro 80’s tunes. Here are some Belgian bands and artists. Prepare for a ‘culture shock’, haha. Unfortunately I couldn’t find a music video of each and every song.

For starters, here’s some punk… en français. I used to play air guitar to this song all the time. (Hey, I was 6 when this came out!)
Plastic Bertrand – Ça Plane Pour Moi 1977
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FarNEJuCpe8

Clearly inspired by The Ramones...
The Kids – There will Be No Next Time 1980
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpkN7XjWJDs

Scooter – You (don't want to be number one) 1981
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2--7x2jzmdw&feature=related

The Bet – Don’t Talk to the Liar 1981
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mF9VvakOzlc&feature=related

TC Matic – Oh La La La 1981
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8m6ceP6v5Y

2 Belgen – Lena 1985
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4TU1bkvrm0k

Vaya Con Dios – Just a Friend of Mine 1986
The singer Dani Klein has a very distinctive voice. You either love it, or hate it.

Elisa Waut – Four Times More 1986
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWbs2ebh1mk

A lovely cover of Serge Gainsbourg’s ‘Je Suis Venue Te Dire Que Je M'en Vais’ by Jo Lemaire & Flouze 1981
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-niZriQImsg&feature=related

Some industrial stuff...
Front 242 (the inventors of Electronic Body Music) – Headhunter 1987
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPpUFBVSyWs

Alternative...
The Neon Judgement – Tomorrow in the Papers 1985
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvYpFw474Ss

Luc Van Acker & Anna Domino 1985
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byEy5DJAsKw

As a side project Richard Jonckheere (Richard 23) of Front 242 forms the underground group "Revolting ****s", together with Luc Van Acker and Al Jourgensen of Ministry.
Revolting ****s – TV Mind 1987
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9g03Tpchh-4

The Wolfbanes – As the Bottle Runs Dry 1988
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ernoChOQh5I

Synth pop...
Nacht und Nebel – Beats of Love 1984
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5YBPRjQfuM

I always hated the following song. But somehow it became very successful, reaching number two in the UK and the US. The video is just as bad.
Technotronic – Pump Up the Jam 1989
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1K7fL5s_1ac

Cheers!

TKO, I actually own some of the music posted here, in fact I bought the Kids best of cd earlier this year, I have some Plastic Bertrand and Front 242 as well. There's some other great belgian bands that I own, they came out of the Factory label, but the euro division. Have you heard of the Names or Minny Pops? I will see if I can find some of their videos to put up. In fact the Names just recently released an reunion concert DVD I want to get. Their lone early 80's album Swimming is a classic.

The Kids are actually from my neighborhood. They used to work at the docks in Antwerp before they became professional musicians. I didn’t grew up with their music though. At that time I was more into pop music, like most kids my age. Stuff like punk, post-punk and even new wave I only learned to appreciate much later.
In 2007 they released an anthology CD. Is it that the one that you own?

I should have known that you were at least familiar with some of the music I posted.
But still… I’m impressed.

Me on the other hand, I’ve never heard of The Names. Minny Pops vaguely rings a bell, but I can’t say I know what their music sounds like. I will definitely look into it.

Hehe, I remember that one bandit..

A couple of years later they had another massive popular girls band in the Netherlands named The Dolly Dots.

During the 80's lots of Dutch artists preferred to sing in their native language, which (until then) was unusual for pop music in Belgium and the Netherlands. They described it with the term Nederpop. 'Doe Maar' was a terrific ska band that sang completely in Dutch. But there's probably no use in posting any of that here, cause nobody will understand a word from it.

Here are a few semi-popular artists from The Netherlands that made music in the English language. I'm sure there are more, but this is all I can think of right now.

Golden Earring – Twilight Zone

They had another big hit in the 80’s with ‘When the Lady Smiles’. The video was kind of controversial back then.

The Nits - Nescio

Vandenberg – Burning Heart

Mai Tai – History

Candy Dulfer here with Dave Stewart – Lily Was Here

Time Bandits – Endless Road

Good stuff Riptide. I wasn't familiar with this band.

Like you said, watching the clip doesn’t do it much justice. It’s like this guy is trying to hypnotize the viewer [Eek!] . But I like the music and that's what it's all about of course.
