Okay today I was listening to satellite radio and I heard two songs by popular artists that were probablly some of their least played.
Cyndi Lauper's ---Money Changes Everything
Okay now the other one has completely flown out of my head.
Anyway my point is what are some songs that you have heard that are by a popular artist that was released but didn't become popular or rather that popular. Not played over and over like "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" would have been????
The post I had on here about a Phil Collins song--I think nit was Inside Out??? Would be another example of this.

Oh...I love this topic Jess...I can think of tons...
One of my favorite songs by Pat Benatar is:
"One Love"
but...that is by far her most known song.

I can think of a few 80s songs...
-Madonna's "Gambler" from the "Vision Quest" soundtrack. Everyone remembers "Crazy For You" but they seem to have neglected this track.
-Pat Benatar's "Cool Zero" and "Cerebral Man" from the "Wide Awake In Dreamland" album.
-The Michael McDonald/James Ingram duet "Yah Mo B There".
Sincerely,
John Kilduff

I can think of lots....
like ..
Def Leppard... I like the song " Die Hard the Hunter"...even though they are known for Photograph, Rock of Ages, and others.
Rick Springfield: some of my favorite songs ever are by him, and they are ones alot of people haven't heard of, until they actually hear the song, and then they have heard it...but my favories by him are:
"Souls", "I get Excited" and "Don't Walk Away".
My favorite Police song is: "Synchronicity II" but I still do like Every Breath You Take and Don't Stand so Close to me.
REO Speedwagon....one of my favories is "In Dreams", which isn't one of their biggest hits.
For Cyndi Lauper one of my favorite songs of hers is "Witness".

I also like Billys Got A Gun by DEF LEPPARD which is not one of their well-known gems. Thats also on the PYROMANIA album.

Okay, I don't think this was played much, at least not around here. Motley Crue's "You're All I Need."

Good choice Isis - That's my favourite Police song too, which very few people seem to know.

Thanks Duckie....I love the music in it, especially the way that song begins...I love it!

Good topic, a Madonna song that I really don't hear much at all but was a chart hit off of the Like a Virgin album was Angel. I don't hear it on any retro shows nor do I see it on any Madonna compilations.
I also like this Pat Benetar song late in her career called All Fired Up, too bad she went jazz right after, I thought she had the fire back with this single.
Also Thompson Twins had this rare b-side called Passion Planet that I have only seen on one 80's compilation, I really think it's good.
A lot of people remember the Aussie band Icehouse when they had a hit in 87 with Electric Blue and Crazy, but they had this really good song in the early 80's called Hey little girl.

Cyndi Lauper had a great song in "Hole in your heart" from the Vibed soundtrack that most people don't know.
Also Julian Lennon's "Now you're in heaven", and The Bangles "In your room" (although it may have been a hit in the US, I don't know. I think I'm the only Aussie that knows the song)

A song I never hear of is Madonna's Angel, off the Like a Virgin album, I think it made the top 40 in 1984, so it's funny you don't hear it anymore, or a video wasn't made.

I think the radio stations steered far away from this little known gem because of the violence the video depicted. The video is on the Motley Crue Greatest Video Hits DVD. Nikki Sixx said he wrote it after he caught his then current girlfriend at the time cheating on him with a well-known soap opera star at the time. The video is basically some guy killing his girlfriend. I love the song though...

That's one of the blessings of satellite radio. Alot of the stations play songs you would rarely or never hear on normal radio. There's also a special on local station 94.1 here on Friday nights hosted by Dee Snider called "House of Hair." Dee remembers and plays ALOT of good songs that were rarely heard back in the 80s along with other 80s hair metal hits...

Hahaha! We went to Pennsylvania on a roadtrip once and we heard House Of Hair on the radio out there. We were glued to it! Some real good stuff on that show!
A lot of people I know are switching over to stuff like SIRIUS that plays all 80s, all 70s, all metal etc. on the stations.
I also like the just music no video music stations I get with my satelite dish. I crank it up when I work out in my living room. ("Arena Rock" is a good one)

Yep Dee pulls stuff out, dusts it off, and plays it even though some of the bands he plays probably don't even remember the songs themselves...

I had forgotten about that one to, Angel was a good song!

Wow...House of Hair...that'd be like a dream come true for me if I could listen to that all day. Seriously. We have Sirius radio on our satellite dish, so I like to watch channel 6023...Hair Nation!

Of all Elton John's songs during the decade, I think "Healing of Hands" gets the least repect and airtime.

Cyndi was on the today show(sunday) i like all of Rush can never get enough of that.

I love talking about these lost songs. Another one is the Cure's This Twilight Garden and Burn , the first was a b-side on a single, and the other appeared on the Crow sountrack. They were some of the best songs the Cure did in the 90's and they were never on an album.
Missing Persons Mental Hopscotch was good too. Was just a b-side.

There's a few from Prince that are underrated: *All his songs from the "4 U" album *All his "Dirty Mind" & "Controversy" songs *I Feel 4 U (Chaka Khan's version was OK, but...) *Bambi (that song was literally rockin'!) *Darling Nikki *Paisley Park *Pop Life *Sign O' The Times *U Got The Look *Alphabet Street *All the songs from "Batman" *All of the old songs by Vanity / Apollonia 6 & The Time
And Michael Jackson's "Earth Song" is so underappreciated, too....a shame, really....

I really like OMD's song Almost off of the first album. It's never appeared on a greatest hits or best of, but it's a standout track.
Chris Deburgh's High on Emotion- This was a hit in the 80's and for some reason I haven't heard it hardly in 20 years.

Devolution here,
Did I just read that Chaka Khan's version was OK????
Mouse, I say this with all due respect. Much like I tell my brother that if Elvis remade a song, I doesn't make it better. I say the same thing about Prince. Talented. Yes. But I guarantee his version of I feel for you would be turned off in a heartbeat.
We are DEVO

OHhhhh....you must like Chaka's version much better. Well, I respect that, too.
Actually, Chaka & Prince's versions of "I Feel 4 U" are both excellent.
But the thing is, I usually like the original of anything better, so that's why I said Chaka's was "OK".
