Does anyone else remember this song. It was number one and by a lady called Tanita Tikaram. I heard it again a couple of years ago, when they released the "Bandits" soundtrack.
It is a really beautiful song and I loved it back in the 80's. It was very unusual for its time. Not the usual poppy stuff (not that I don't love that too).
Anyway, I remember that the video was set in a desert or something. It looked like the middle east somewhere. Did anyone else like this song?

must have been strictly an Aussie thing as I have no recollection of it and it doesn't show up in my Billboard book of Top 40 hits.

Bandits was made in America though. It starred Bruce Willis, Cate Blanchett & Billy Bob Thornton. I was surprised to find it on the soundtrack though

Absolutely love that song and that voice of hers.. It’s different alright. I even bought the whole CD just for that one song. Over here she also had another small hit with ‘Good Tradition’ from the same album. But that has never gotten to me like the song you just mentioned. I can’t recall the video though.

The Pet Shop Boys tried to buy the rights of the song for Liza Minnella when they were writting and producing for here in around 89'? They thought the words were perfect for her...........but TT wouldnt sell....

It's a beautiful song, very plaintive. I love the oboe solo.

My Sister went to college with Tanita Tikaram. 'Good Tradition' was more poppy than 'Twist', but it was still a fine song. She was part of that whole anti-pop crowd that existed around the time of the 'Stock Aitken Waterman' boom ('All About Eve'/'River City People'/'Fairground Attraction' etc).

That's pretty coincidental Logan5! There really are fewer than six degrees of separation in the world aren't there? From what I can gather, the song was big in Australia & the UK but not really in the US. Like stitch said, it's a beautiful song though. You should try and listen to it if you haven't already. I heard there was a really bad club mix done of it though. Just can't quite imagine it!?!
