PITTSBORO, N.C. (AP) - Bret Michaels, the former leader of the hard-rock band Poison, is working with a different kind of music these days, reinventing himself as a country singer.
When Michaels needed a place to shoot a video for country music up-and-comers Forty5 South, he ended up in Chatham County, about nine miles west of Pittsboro.
That's because Michaels is friends with Christie Cook, whose family owns the property where the video was shot. And Cook, along with her husband, James, runs Media One Studios, a company that specializes in videography work.
The scenery fit the words for a song called "We're Country So We Can."
On Wednesday, Michaels directed a Chapel Hill-based film crew and the band through a series of scenes - of the band lip-syncing in a horse ring, of them lip-syncing in front of a truck filled with hay bales and pretty ladies and Thor, the redbone coonhound.
Made up of five guys in their 20s, Forty5 South hails from Jackson, Tennessee. Their first album, "Too Much, Too Fast," made a dent on Texas radio and sold about 10,000 copies, said the band's manager, Tim Barham.
"We're Country So We Can" is set to be the first single from a new album to be released in April. Michaels produced the album, sings a few lines of "We're Country So We Can" and appears in the video.
For Michaels, the project is another step in the effort to reposition himself as a player on the country scene. He hopes to release a country album, "Freedom of Sound," this fall.
Michaels, who took Poison to No. 1 in 1988 with "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," isn't worried about being accepted by Nashville and its fans. He's been influenced by KISS and Aerosmith, but likes Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Allman Brothers Band and George Strait, too.
"The reason I don't fear it is that I'm comfortable in my skin. I'm not trying to trick anybody," he said.

I heard Tim McGraw is doing a song with Nelly?? What's up with that??
And if Kid Rock can do Country, where does it end?

Look, if even Latoya Jackson can make a Country music album (yes, believe it or not, she did!), then I guess anything is possible!

That's Ronny LEE Keel to you, Sam! Remember the rule: anyone can be a Country singer if they add Lee to thier name. Example: Sammy Lee Hain!!!!

That's right, from now on, if we are all going to do a country album, it's gonna be:
StevenLeeHW Latoya Lee Jackson Bret Lee Michaels Ron Lee Keel Sammy Lee Hain Bionic Lee Bigfoot Paul Lee Shrimpton Isis Lee Goof Eddie Lee Wilson JLP Lee (maybe the "L" really is Lee) Cindy Lee Mancini RockSteadyLeeFlameThrower Valley Lee Cat Rip Lee Tide (a great country name!) Kash Lee Ali_With_A_Lee_And_An_I Stitch Lee Groover Nomis Lee Drol Rhodes Lee Chris Lee Fulmer The Horny Lee Viking The Lee Wizard Obscurus Lee Lupa Smayt Lee Gateford DevoLeeLution Muffy Lee Tepperman Tim Lee Cappello Marty Lee McFly Earth Lee Angel HipsterLeeMom Ferris Lee Bueller
And, of course...Hugga Lee Bunch!
Come to think of it, Elvis Costello already did a country album in the early 80's ("Almost Blue"). Why didn't he call himself Elvis Lee Costello?
Finally, you can also really be country-sounding if you adopt "Ray" or "Earl" as a middle name.

Some of those were really funny. Like:Horny Lee Viking. ahahahahahaha!!!!!

Steven!!! That is hilarious! I loved that!! Those all were pretty good. They all fit, and sounded like it was meant to be.
Very Cool. I really keep wondering about the whole Hugga Bunch Experience, I really do think it "changed" you.

Isn't country music usually a last-ditch attempt to maintain a career when the one you used to have goes on the skids?
Posted by mamamiasweetpeaches (Member # 1715) on :
Thats actually PORN.
Yeah...Sammy Lee Hain sounds like he could be the new singer for VAN HALEN.

And if that doesn't work out, he could always take up porn! Or perhaps appear on the TV show, "The Surreal Life".

Has Sheryl Lee Ralph or R. Lee Ermey done country albums? I'd actually love to here R. Lee do one, perhaps a concept album performed by his Full Metal Jacket character.

The Lee Ermy album is a great idea. LOL. I can hear it now: "Alright you ****** ******* ****** ***** *** #@$## attention." That would be a good title.
