I recently discovered some interesting trivia about this tune while watching a Cetera concert on dvd I just got. He stated that he originally wrote this song for Rocky IV! I had no idea. He said he just changed the lyrics to make it work for Karate Kid II. Did you guys know this?

I only knew that recently after watching a 1985 interview with David Foster and Peter Cetera on youtube. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mj9BK7ih8Q0 ) Watch this clip at the 3:20 mark as they spring the news that Cetera is going solo (they hadn't even told the rest of Chicago yet) and then they say that they are working on a song for Rocky IV. But I didn't know that they changed some of the lyrics. What live show was this that you watched?

I read about the "Rocky IV" thing on-line awhile back, but had no clue they changed some of the lyrics for "The Karate Kid II" .. cool info 80'sRocked.
I remember Tresfoxy was a huge fan of that tune.. of course.. she grew up thinking that The Karate Kid I & II were all one long movie because I think her dad had it overlapping on an old VHS tape as a kid.

It was from a dvd I just got on ebay - Peter Cetera live with The Salt Lake City Symphony Orchestra, 2004. It is an amazing show. He does 17 songs from his solo career and many Chicago hits.
Here is the performance of Glory of Love. He made the statement about writing the song for Rocky IV right before this. Unfortunately, that part is not on youtube:
I'll check it out, thanks, 80sRocked.

Don't feel so stupid Willy. I had a similar experience about 17 or 18 years ago! I thought Chicago did this tune because of Cetera's voice and went nuts trying to find this song. I hadn't discovered Cetera's solo career yet.... I felt like a fool when I heard the song on the radio and they said it was by Peter Cetera of Chicago.

I just have to reply to this!!!! =) It is true this is one of my favorite songs of ALL TIME!!!=D
This song was the song my husband and I walked down the aisle to and it was our first dance. My husband really had no choice in the matter but I basically picked that song for my wedding way back in 1986 (I was 5)!!! I got married in 2008
And yes Valley has it correct! I did think that KK1 and KK2 were the same movie. My uncle had taped the movies so that the end of kk1 overlapped with the begining of kk2. If you didn't know better I think anyone could have thought the same! lol ;)When my cousins had to babysit me all they had to do was pop in that tape and I was good to go for about 4 1/2 hours!!!
I too never knew it was originally for Rocky!?!? I can't even picture it in any other film than KK2!?!?! But I may be a little partial! lol
And I pretty much love most songs by Chicago and Peter Cetera. "My inspiration" was my daddy daughter dance...
FYI... my wedding recession song was " Nothing gonna stop us now" from Mannequin...
What can I say I have good taste in music!!!
Thanks Valley for sharing my story!!!

TresFoxy.. that is an awesome story! So cool that it was your wedding 'must have' tune was based on your love for "The Karate Kid" at the age of 5!

this song is awesome. Loved the shots of Okinawa in the music video.
Makes me want to visit there someday

I agree with you on that note, "The Good Packages!"

Flashback: Peter Cetera Honors the 'Glory' of Karate Kid's Love
Former Chicago frontman rode 1986 single "The Glory of Love" to top of charts and Academy Awards
In case you didn't notice yet, although Glory Of Love was for KK2, the music video includes scenes from KK1 and KK2.

The music video for Glory of Love was directed by Peter Sinclair.
