I finally had the opportunity to watch "The Karate Kid" Blu-ray with the new Blu-Pop feature where Ralph Macchio and William Zabka share their insights about the making of the legend.
Some of this will be old news to huge fans like Nick, but it was a blast for me.
Here are a few tidbits:
Daniel LaRusso was originally suppose to be Danny Webber, but they changed it after Ralph Macchio got the role.
The Ali_with_an_i and Daniel_with_an_l scene in the movie was actually from and an adlib audition the very first day that Macchio and Shue met. Avildsen loved it so much he had the writers add it to the film.
Zabka stated that riding up on the motorcycle was his film debut. He said he was nervous and that added to the performance. He said that his famous red jacket was almost tan until the director changed it at the last minute. Says he still has the red one at home!
The high school scenes were shot at a jr high school in the neighborhood that Zabka grew up in. Zabka recaps all the Cobra Kais.. priceless! Zabka credits Pat Johnson for creating Johnny.
Worth buying the Blu-ray to watch and listen to Macchio reflect on his relationship with Pat Morita.
Zabka says there is a backstory to Johnny that he created that didn't make it into the final film.
Macchio talks about the Halloween shower costume and the country club spaghetti scene.
Okay.. I'm stopping for now.. just wanted to say.. I'm loving the Macchio and Zabka Blu-Pop!
I had no idea it would be this insightful or entertaining.. I'm only 45 minutes in at this point

Ralph Macchio attended the premiere of "The Karate Kid" remake last night and below is what he had to say:
"Remake: Different vibe, story same, bigger, more violent. Well done, but the SOUL, the MAGIC - LEGACY of the Original KK remains untouched!"
