In the notes to the new 4disc score to the Karate Kid films, Robert Townson describes KK as, "the 1984 sleeper that became one of the best-loved films of the decade, launching three sequels, an animated TV series, a martial arts revival and a tidal wave of merchandising." Now I know the second and third films spawned a series of action figures and there were a couple of tie-in books, book/tape sets but other than that was there any merchandising at all let alone a TIDAL WAVE? Compared to other films of the decade there seems to be hardly any considering the success that the first two films enjoyed.
