Completely awesome news! Thanks for the heads up, Turbo.

Hey, Brownie...this amazing or what!

FINALLY Part III is available. Just listened to the sample track for the final moments of KK III and wow. Though it says "The Final Blow 4:05", it only plays 1:20 of the track. But Conti's strings sound amazing.

Plus (I'm guessing) we'll get the tournament music from part 1, as it says "Daniel's Moment of Truth 1:52". So I played the tracks from my bootleg of "Daniel's Courage" and the piece of the tournament from the opening of KK II, and it seemed to add up to about 1:52. As well as "No Mercy" and Miyagi fixing Daniel's leg.

And as Turbo said, the fight in Yukie's garden between Miyagi and Chozen is now featured, along with a few other brief tracks.

Bonzaiii!!!!

McFly, Turbo....... this is a truly amazing day

I like the movie version of "Feel The Night" much better than the version on the soundtrack. In the movie it has the mixed in female vocals and it makes the song so much better in my view. The soundtrack version with just Baxter Robinson is good, but to me it is flat, while with the female vocals the song is much more enjoyable.

McFly, Brown, it appears the additions (the score pieces never released) are,

Karate Kid:

4. Dan Ducks Out (:55)
5. Bonsai Tree (:43)
6. Decorate The Gym (:39)
11. Feel The Night (Demo) (Bill Conti and Baxter Robinson) Performed by Baxter Robinson (1:56)
12. Troubled Lovers (:33)
14. Paint The Fence (3:11)
19. Japanese Hand Clap (:40)
20. No Mercy (:23)
21. Daniel’s Moment Of Truth (1:52)

Karate Kid Part II:

15. Miyagi’s Attack (1:00) (This was a great piece in the movie and I remember sometime back someone said they had been looking for the song for like 10 years or something and had no luck, maybe they will comeback to this site and see what is going on).

Correct me if I am wrong it appears the bootleg copy has 24 tracks for part II and the new one to be released by Varese Sarabande has 20. Maybe they have combined a couple and made them one track.

I cant wait for Part III, I love the final piece of music while Daniel performs Kata and then as it closes with him raising Miyagi's arm.

Praise to those you brought these scores out and made right what was for many years wrong.

Wow, Turbo, didn't notice the track issue. Kind of concerns me. But even if Varese dropped some, still have our trusty bootleg [Smile] .

The main problem is that they've retitled the tracks we've come to know. Like "Miyagi vs. Kreese", is that now "No Mercy" (track 2, part II)? In comparing the times of the Varese tracks with the boot, it looks as though they may have dropped "Miyagi goes to Airport", "Daniel Talks on Plane", and "The one who dead Doesn't".

And some of the other times don't match up with various other tracks for part II. Plus, part I's boot only had 13 tracks...Varese part 1 has 23 tracks!!! So this will be interesting.

All I'd do is combine the boot with the Varese release for my own Ultimate Edition, lol. I won't care, as long as the new tracks include Miyagi's fight in Yukie's garden, and the tournament stuff from part 1. And of course that part III include Daniel beating Barnes.

Posted by Brown (Member # 89) on :

^HAHA, I'll be combining too...

First track I noticed missing was the "Storm" from KKII.. its like 4 mins long! I cant see anything that really fits the bill

in any event, nothing will bring me down.. I'd have dropped $100 on this, never mind 50. Lol.

Let the good times roll [Smile]

Posted by McFly (Member # 354) on :

Man, another one that slipped by me!! The Storm is an awesome action track, can't live without that one. "Daniel and Kumiko" is either them on the dock or the tea ceremony. But "Daniel Leaves" throws me off as well. Is that when he leaves Miyagi's hut and goes to the tea ceremony? Argh. The Storm could be "Old Friends", which runs 4:47. The Storm runs 4:44.

It also looks like the O Bon Dance isn't on there as well. It seems "Moon Spots" is Kumiko's Performance, they're both about the same time.

Posted by Miyagi-Turbo (Member # 4340) on :

I am positive that "The Storm" is now "Old Friends". As you pointed out McFly they have a 3 second difference and also in the film Miyagi tells Sato during that scene "I got you old friend". Pretty sure "Old Friends" is "The Storm".

Also, I think the short piece of score played when Miyagi witnesses the bike aftermath is not included. I think that it is the only score piece not released from the original.

"Daniel Leaves" is when Miyagi and Sato are in preparation for their fight and also when Dan and Kumiko have the tea ceremony.

"Daniel and Kumiko" track is when they are on the dock and she pours the rice in the water.

They have as you pointed out McFly changed some of the names, yes you are right "Miyagi vs. Kreese" is now "No Mercy".

I think "Daniel Talks on Plane"(1:17) and The One Who Dead Doesn't"(0:40) from the boot is now the track "Time Flies"(1:50) in the new set.

Also, it appears that "Miyagi Goes to Airport"(2:02) from the boot is now "Honor Very Serious"(2:02). I think the part where Miyagi is packing and tells Daniel honor very serious is the first past of the track and the second part is Miyagi waiting for Daniel to come by and see him off to the airport.

Good spots, guys

I take it you've both ordered?!

Posted by Miyagi-Turbo (Member # 4340) on :

Yes, I ordered my copy and really have been waiting for this to happen for a very long time.

Dont get me wrong as a die-hard fan of the music and the movies, I just dont know why they would skip out on a few pieces of score.

For example they have included track 20. No Mercy (:23), but failed to put in score where Miyagi witnessed the Bike aftermath, I think that runs like 0:18 seconds and they dont include the short piece of score from part 2 when Daniel is putting Miyagi's medal on that rosewood.

I would think they have those pieces, but maybe they dont and with this new release and the boot, almost all of score music is there, but those short pieces are not there.

I am still very happy with what we will be getting, really cant believe part 3 is there and I actually liked some of the score from the Next Karate Kid as well.

Something that is interesting to me is that you know the soundtrack to Karate Kid Part III (pop soundtrack), well the last song is called "Love Theme from Karate Kid III" and I dont recall that piece of music from the film and also it is not included as a score piece in this new set to be released. It runs 4:13. It sounds like nothing from the movie and is it me or was there no "love" between Dan and Jessica, more of just a good friendship. Maybe they originally were to be more than friends and it got scratched and the score piece remained. It sounds more like music from the Next Karate Kid than from KK3.

Any thoughts?

Posted by Brown (Member # 89) on :

I'm pretty sure that theme is called "Love Theme From The Karate Kid" (not part III) though i may be wrong.. (i dont have the cd)

I also have "love theme from Karate Kid II" which doesn't appear either.. I dunno whats up with that.

What will be the first songs that you play (lol) ..?

For me, its definitely gonna be "final blow", the kata training from KKIII and the original demo version of "feel the night" - I can't wait for that [Smile]

It would be interesting to know how many advance copies of the score Varese has sold. I know it's a very niche market but a limited edition of 2500 doesn't seem a lot. I would have thought they'd have sold out pretty quickly.

On another note . . . If anyone has the time, inclination, knowledge and desire it would be good to see a complete track listing of all the KK music (from the first movie at least) including both the pop and instrumental scores in the order they appear in the film, and including any unavailable tracks. If not, I s'pose I could just go and work it out for myself...

Posted by Miyagi-Turbo (Member # 4340) on :

Hey Brown, I am positive the track reads "Love Theme from Karate Kid III by Bill Conti.

Thanks for the link to Love Theme From The Karate Kid Part II. I have it, but others may not.

I think I am going to play "The Hidden Tree" from KK 3, I really like the scene and the music is spectacular.

To respond to your question gigawatt?, I think honestly a lot of people dont know about it yet, I have been a major fan for many years just waiting for this music and I only found out on the 13th of this month that this set was going to be released. I also think a lot of people have the boot and they think that is it and that the complete score would never be released. Possibly the release of the boot on ebay and other sites, could be a reason people are not going after this set. Essentially those with boot in hand would have a lot of 1 and 2, the score pieces, so they just might not want to shell out $44 for two additional soundtrack scores. You never know, I personally think it is worth it, plus the hidden stuff from 1 and 2. Great Stuff.

I'm sure you're right. The only reason I found out about the release was through your post on this forum. Thanks!

A note for UK buyers:

On the Varese website it says "For added convenience, our European customers may now order online directly from Colosseum Records Germany. I followed the link and The Karate Kid scores are priced at 56 Euros which converts to about £38!!! If you order directly from Varese it's $44 or £22.

Added covenience? Added cost more like.

^LOL! Gotta love the UK / US exchange rate

gigawatt, lets have our fingers crossed that our CD's don't attract Import Tax and Import Duty - which IS possible and could amount to around £14.. I wouldn't care too much though to be honest

Hey Ian,

you are right, I just dont know why when I bring it up in my Itunes collection it reads Love Theme from Karate Kid III. You know when you load the cd in and Itunes figures out the names, track time and album, well that is what it came up with, but after seeing your post I am going to just change it.

I think it is good track, but love theme, love theme to what, it has the Karate Kid flavor, but kind of out of place for part 3, just my view.

Hopefully those of you in the UK have no problems getting the Varese Release.

£14 import tax! Hmm - I'm not feeling so smug now. I've bought quite a few CDs and DVDs from the US before and never paid tax but there's a first time for everything. Anyway it's released today so I guess we'll find out soon . . .

Turbo - you'll probably get your copy first. Will you put up a review to whet our appetites?

Posted by Miyagi-Turbo (Member # 4340) on :

Sure gigawatt? if I get it before you guys I will be sure to write about it here. However if you, Brown, McFly or anyone else gets it first it would be great to see what all of you think of it. I really cant wait for the set, really looking forward to many score pieces. Looking forward to "Dan Ducks Out", love that scene in the film and when he goes up the stairs to his apartment and sees the fixed bike, really a beautiful piece of score music there.

Sorry to hear about the import tax, wish you guys didnt have to pay that.

i've had CD's and DVD's from the US before and NEVER been charged import fee's either - I've only EVER got import fee's when I recently ordered some clothes and a basketball..

Hopefully we'll be good to go. I'll expect mine some time next week probably.. post up your reviews ASAP [Smile] !

*All score Titles taken from new Varese Release, link at top of thread.
*There is music playing right after Fish and Train (S) and it plays in the country club scene. If anyone has info on this song please post. It is also used in part 2 as well.
*The Ride by Matches, Please Answer Me by Broken Edge and Cruel Summer by Bananarama were in the movie, but never appeared on the pop soundtrack, the original version and the more recent one. To my knowledge Cruel Summer is the only one of the three you can get. I have heard that someone out there might have Please Answer Me, but still it is an elusive pop piece.
*In conclusion, only one piece of score music for the original is not included in the new Varese Release and it is when Miaygi comes out of his shed to view the bike aftermath.

McFly, Brown, gigawatt? and others feel free to correct what I have missed or any errors.

Thanks for taking the time to do this Turbo. Exactly what I was after.

No problem gigawatt?, I think it is pretty accurate, cant think of anything I missed.

So gigawatt?, Brown, McFly and others I have a question for you. Do you know where I can get a copy of "Glory of Love", the version that was played as the credits roll in KK 2? Although the lyrics are the same as the version I have, it is slightly different, check it out and tell me if you notice the difference. I would like to find the movie version. Thanks for any information.

Hey Turbo--did you ever find Broken Edge's "Please Answer Me"? Geez--you would think they would have included the other pop tracks on the the soundtrack!! [Mad]

Posted by Miyagi-Turbo (Member # 4340) on :

Awesome, thanks Brown you made my day. I like the movie version so much better than the one that is on the original soundtrack. Thanks again for posting and sharing with everyone.

As for your question harold, I have not had any luck finding that song, although there was some talk on IMDB that carrieluvr2902@yahoo.com has the song. Not sure, but you can check it out.

Here is a post from IMDB Karate Kid Board.

by sarahh3256 1 day ago (Wed Mar 28 2007 13:13:29 )

"Well, I've contacted someone who emailed Josh Lober and he said he doesn't even have it---I know a copy exists though---a person I've been emailing said he had a good quality copy on his mp3 player but the player crashed and is unrestorable. I've even tried contacting the producer John Ryan--nada as well. I find it very hard to believe that both these people wouldn't keep a copy of a song that they themselves made AND that appeared in a major motion picture. WOW!! I hope that this song is not a lost cause as it is one of the best 80s songs I've ever heard."

Posted by gigawatt? (Member # 4796) on :

The only music included on the new soundtracks is that written by Bill Conti. Hence the inclusion of 'Feel the Night' but not 'Please Answer Me'.

Posted by Brown (Member # 89) on :

does anyone have their copy yet..?

Posted by Miyagi-Turbo (Member # 4340) on :

Not yet, but you know one thing I noticed, I do think we are missing some more score music from Part 2. You know when Miyagi visits Sato at his home and Sato is practicing his karate chop on the piece of wood they found together when they were younger. Well when Sato walks away from Miyagi, there is a nice little score piece and then it jumps to when Dan and Kumiko are out on the town dancing. It is a short piece, but a good one, I dont recall it being on the boot and dont see it on the new release title sheet. Well I guess we cant have it all, but it was a good piece.

Post your reviews if you get your copy.

I spoke to representative over at Varese and he mentioned that they received over 1,000 orders for club soundtrack items on the 12 of March and that they are a litte behind in terms of shipping. I mentioned to him that my order was put in on the 13th of March and he said the copy could be shipped out in posssibly 2-3 days or at the latest a week.

OMG, i hope my order is still valid.. [Frown]

Posted by McFly (Member # 354) on :

Wow, this place is jumpin'.

You guys beat me to the KK III "Love Theme" thing. Brownie, the disc you sent me a couple years ago does list "KK III Love Theme" as the last track. Here it is on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/THE-KARATE-KID-III-SOUNDTRACK-1989-EXCELLENT_W0QQitemZ230112457849QQcategoryZ58612QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD2VQQcmdZViewItem So it must be part of KK III.

Because I as well noticed it's not on the Varese set. And I think they named it "Love Theme" because often times films will call the instrumental theme a "love" one. Even if it's never used in the film. At least in the 70s and 80s. It was just a piece of instrumental score that showed the love between characters, namely the friendship between Daniel and Miyagi. My best guess anyway.

There are misc. bits I'm sure Varese or Bill Conti didn't feel were worth their time (but what about us! lol). Like Miyagi in his workshop after Daniel trashes his bike, the "Ahhh, Daniel-san, Happy Halloween!" bit, or like when Miyagi brings Daniel ice tea when he's nailing the boards to the guest house.

Nope, haven't ordered. Unfortunately something I have to save for. $50 bucks plus shipping. Ouch. Yes, hope you guys in the UK don't get hit with a VAT or something.

Posted by Brown (Member # 89) on :

^ha ha ha, yeah, I forgot I'd sent you that CD. Good times, lol.

I must have renamed that track at some point, because it doesn't have the "III" part in my version any more..

*still waiting for my CD*

Posted by Miyagi-Turbo (Member # 4340) on :

Just checking in, Varese sent me an email confirming my cd has been shipped. I checked through and the tracking number shows that it should arrive shortly. I dont know how it is for those who have ordered it overseas, but you should get a confirmation that states that your cd has been shipped. I also wish they would update their site so we could see how many copies are left, because surely they do not still have 2,500.

Just to add one note here, I recently read that "Glory of Love" was originally intended for Rocky IV, but the producers passed and thus it was picked for KK2. It is hard to think of KK2 without that song from Cetera. Can anyone confirm this, I read it over at wiki.

Posted by Brown (Member # 89) on :

Can't confirm that, but Wiki isn't the best source, lol.. Could be that someone has simply made a Conti/Karate Kid/Rocky connection and made that up about Cetera..? the two movies were released a year apart though, I I guess it could be true?

btw, I'm yet to receive my confirmation e-mail.. [Frown]

Just received it and I have to say it is awesome. Great package and it comes with this really nice booklet which has 22 pages of photos and information about the score. It is fantastic, I am amazed and they have done a super job. Have not listened to everything, but so far the sound quality is superb.

From Karate Kid

"Fite Nite", really good, noticed a little difference in part of the song, as compared to the boot, but overall very good, I like it better than the boot copy.

"Dan Ducks Out" - very good, takes you back to when he comes home and sees Miyagi has fixed the bike. A great piece of score and for the first time we can hear it outside of the movie.

"Bonsai Tree" is really nice as well, a new score piece. Takes you back to the scene.

"Decorate the Gym" - good to finally have and you get that little piece where Miyagi Says "Ah Happy Halloween Daniel-san"

"Feel the Night" - a solo by Baxter Robinson, same lyrics but a different feel to the song, not from the film section, when you hear it you will know what I mean. It is alright, nice to have a new version.

"Troubled Lovers" - A nice new one.

"Paint the Fence" - A missing one, really good addition.

"Japanese Hand Clap" - Awesome

"No Mercy" - Nice to have

"Daniel's Moment of Truth - starts from the point where Dan is getting up from Johnny's blow to the leg all the way to the finale. This track is a 10/10, a great way to close off disc one.

Will post more when I have the chance, but so far so good. If you have any questions I will try to answer them the best I can. Take care.

If I am hearing it right, you get the score piece when Dan is putting the medal on that piece of rosewood for Miyagi from Part 2, it comes in track 4 "Breathing / Daniel Nails It"

For those of you who have been waiting for "Miyagi's attack" track 15 is spectacular.

"Old Friends" is the "The Storm" from the boot.

Posted by Miyagi-Turbo (Member # 4340) on :

McFly, I just wanted to add some thoughts to your previous post and clarify what the new set has from those short score pieces.

"Like Miyagi in his workshop after Daniel trashes his bike, the "Ahhh, Daniel-san, Happy Halloween!" bit, or like when Miyagi brings Daniel ice tea when he's nailing the boards to the guest house".

The "Ahhh, Daniel-san, Happy Halloween" small score piece is there under "Decorate the Gym", track 6 on the first disc.

When "Miyagi brings Daniel ice tea when he's nailing the boards to the guest house" is also there under track 4 "Breathing/Daniel Nails It" on disc 2.

The scene where Miyagi witnessed the bike aftermath is not on any cd in this new set, if I remember from the movie it was real short, maybe like 10 seconds, the shortest score piece in this new set is "No Mercy" which is 23 seconds long. It would have been nice to have it, but we have a lot of other great stuff.

I want to mention "The Final Blow" from Part III is really good, Brown, McFly you guys are going to love this one, one of the best pieces in the series.

Posted by Brown (Member # 89) on :

OMG!

thanks man, i can't wait!!! i'd ask you to upload a track or two, but no.. i'm gonna wait til mine arrives, lol

Posted by Miyagi-Turbo (Member # 4340) on :

You should all wait, it is so much better to have all of it in front of you. The booklet is really impressive as well and it was very informative. You will find out something interesting about KK2 and Zamfir. No way I would have known without the booklet. The booklet is small, like the size of a compact disc case. It has two written pieces mixed in with 26 photos (including cover and back cover) of various stills from the movies. Good stuff.

One track for part 2 is not there, but it is on the boot, it is "Obon Dance"

Also "Daniel Breaks Ice" is in the new set for Part II, but it comes at the end of the track entitled "Rekindled Love"

The score for Part III is very impressive. I like pretty much everything, but the best ones in my opinion are,

"The Final Blow" - amazing from start to finish, a powerful piece and sound quality is excellent.

"Kata Training" - takes you back to the original, reminds me a little of "Training Hard", hard to pick a favorite between those two.

"The Hidden Tree" and the "The Last Tree"

The Silver Theme and the rest are really good as well.

Also they have changed some of the names of score pieces, like for example "Kumiko's Peformance" from the boot is now "Moon Spots" in Part II.

I've only watched "The Next Karate Kid" ONCE, but based on the sample of "Angel Flies" from Varese, i really wanna hear it too..

Thanks for the great review Turbo.
I'm glad to hear they've put some effort in with the booklet. It's always nice when they do something like that - makes you feel you've got your money's worth!

omg, mine is here.. I'm listening to the KKIII score now... i can't believe I actually have this in my hands.. lol.

(BTW - English folks, I got charged £12.01 import fee's, but its worth it)

I've only listened to the intro track so far, but I'll hopefully get through it all this week... its so good.

Bonsai!!

Has anyone else noticed that some of the tracks on the new CD differ slightly to previous releases? For instance, is it me or does "Fite Night" have additional instrumentation in it not present on the bootleg version... I smell an incomplete/bungled release.. :-/

Posted by Miyagi-Turbo (Member # 4340) on :

I for sure noticed the change in "Fite Nite" on the new CD. Clearly is different from the other version.

In terms of the set being incomplete, I would say it is because it does not have the score piece where Miyagi witnesses the bike aftermath and the score piece when Miyagi visits Sato at his house and says "What has happened to you?", the score that comes toward the end of that scene is not there.

The additions are good though, like "Miyagi's Attack" and the little extra piece when Dan is nailing the boards and placing the medal on the rosewood for Miyagi (Breathing / Daniel Nails It)

I was a bit disappointed that 'Feel the Night' wasn't the version used in the film but a rather ropey affair which sounded like an audition tape.

Hey everyone, cool site and forum [Smile] I just ordered this yesterday. Can't wait for it to arrive.

It arrived today [Big Grin] I've just listened to the first CD. Ahh heaven -

I actually really loved the Feel the night demo and Daniel's moment of truth gave me all the same chills up and down my spine as when I watch the film, great stuff.

*Pops in CD2* [Cool]

It was a demo tape (says so in the notes)

But why include a demo rather than the full version as appeared in the film? Okay it's increadibly cheesy pop pap but if you're a fan of the film (which if you've bought these CDs you undoubtedly are) then it's one of the more prominent songs and one which you' like to own. The version they included on the 'pop' sountrack was, I think, the only song that varied from what we heard in the film. Surly this would have been a good time to set that straight? Pah! Maybe I'm just taking it too seriously. Can't help but feel a bit cheated. Yes it says it's a demo in the notes but you can only read that AFTER youve shelled out your money.
...Rest of the CDs are good though! Glad you're enjoying them Helen S.

Sorry, been away a while with this stupid busy life thing, lol.

You guys sound like you're having a blast. Brownie, do me the biggest favor and upload the final moments of KK III for me somewhere. Still not yet ready to order, but am dying to hear that track.

Thanks for all the informative posts everyone. Enthusiasm for the KK scores is in short supply.

Woo. I just ordered my copy.

I'm so glad that they didn't sell out before I found out about this. I haven't been on this website in ages so I was a little late finding out.

Can anybody say roughly how long it should take to get my copy (I'm in the UK)?
The website says 1-6 weeks, but this is quite a broad time space.. I can't wait!! [Big Grin]

Along with a £12 customs charge, buggers.

Posted by Aaron_H (Member # 1942) on :

When/how exactly do you get charged?

Posted by Helen_S (Member # 5804) on :

The postman will just take the £12 when he brings your parcel. The charge is because the item is over £18. I've been making sure all my orders from out of the country are under £18 since lol
